airplane owners

Besides myself and KC from Paycounter...

who else on gfy has a pilots license or owns an aircraft?

Cirrus 12-06-2002 06:23 PM

Here

KC 12-06-2002 06:31 PM

Cirrus,

Do you have a Cirrus? I'm thinking of getting a SR-22.. Took a test flight in one and fell in love with it. Where do you fly?

Spunky, Oz from TrueCash is a pilot too.. he flys a really cool Pitts.

VirtuMike 12-06-2002 06:47 PM

I have about 16 hours done in the air and zero ground school. I was working on it but then I realized I can get it later and I need to make more porn instead.

Buy my content so I can finish the license!

KC 12-06-2002 06:53 PM

VirtuMike, get to it!

Spunkyed 12-06-2002 07:08 PM

KC... right now i have three planes
a Pulsar, a Cherokee 140 and a Glasair

the pulsar and cherokee are flying and the Glasair is about 30% done, I should have it flying by this time next year

Pulsar is for sale :)
http://www.mrpheer.com/pulsar.jpg

Plane handles like a fighter and I'm only asking $20k

Spunkyed 12-06-2002 07:11 PM

If you do own a Cirrus... then I guess I'm just gonna be jealous
those are nice planes

Here are a few of the pics from my test flight in an SR-22.. That was a beautiful plane.. cruises at 180kts and has an all glass cockpit. They now have an option for a PFD in addition to the MFD.

Here's a pic of the plane:

Here's my Final into Palo Alto, CA:

Cirrus 12-06-2002 08:34 PM

Sweet

:)

redshift 12-06-2002 08:40 PM

I have a pilots license and I am building a Culp Special bi-plane

Smegma 12-06-2002 08:45 PM

That was kick ass (The PA flight of the SR-22)... that plane had some power (over the 172).

KC is an awesome pilot.. within two minutes, he had mastered the funky flight controls of the SR22. It has an awesome cockpit with this kick ass situational awareness display. You can overlay terrain, weather, and other traffic on the one 10" screen fed by the Stormscope, Garmin, and TCAS.

droooooolllll..

When KC landed the plane, even the test-pilot was impressed. He usually had to provide a little extra stick and rudder for the first-timers landing the SR. KC kissed the runway... nice rollout.

I finished ground school at American Flyers.. passed the FAA exam.. need to put in hours (and take a refresher course on the ground stuff).

KC - I know I took more pics than that.. post em!

Smegma 12-06-2002 08:49 PM

This is my plane just as soon as I get $2.8MM and finish my VFR and get my IFR ticket. PILATUS PC-12/45

thats awesome man...

I live an hour from Steve Culp, I'm seen him fly & do some amazing stuff with his green & yellow Yak. I considered buying one of his kits but I bought a Glasair instead.

whats the string taped to the canopy for? some sort of slip indicator?

Cirrus 12-06-2002 09:16 PM

Yes a slip indicator, almost all gliders use this because it's far more accurate

VirtuMike 12-06-2002 09:27 PM

My goal was to get a Velocity XL-RG John Denver Special homebuild and have my retired dad build the thing. How cool would that be?

It's an 800 hour jobbie with all the fast build options. Totally.

The plane that porn built.

BUY MY CONTENT!

I have a buddy thats selling a plane, its either a velocity or a plane very similar, one of the pusher planes with a canard

i dunno how much he is asking though, he moved to a place with an unpaved runway and you dont fly one of these there, the nose wheel kicks up gravel which gets thrown into the prop

Alt+F4 12-06-2002 09:59 PM

Very interesting thread....

I associate planes with the ones I get on at the airport... I was totally ignorant to the world of Personal Aircraft before I read this thread. I think I just found my next mission in life.

Thanks for the idea guys.... and...
anyone know of good places on the web to start collecting info. about licenses etc. ?

Jayson 12-06-2002 10:05 PM

I am licensed but no plane :( and I dont do anywhere near the hours I used to.

ICQ me and I can help.. I know of a few good starting points..

Where do you live? That would help determine schools, etc.

Plat 12-06-2002 10:10 PM

looks like fun :c)

lots of info...

letshunt 12-06-2002 10:48 PM

Pilot here, too

I own a Malibu Mirage...the world famous doctor killer.

Great plane, just harder than hell to land...it doesn't like to slow down on descent...only good thng is you can drop the gear at 150knts...about throws you throw the cockpit, but you can do it. The plane get can get way ahead of you on IFR approaches. Pressured to 25,000....so you can get up and find some good winds or weather alot.

Got VFR, IFR, mulit, commercial and instructors license. Don't have real big hours, tho, 2100 hrs.

By the way, one of my buddies fly's a Pilatus for a local business man...cool plane. It's a smoker. I go right seat with him alot, awesome avionics.

it IS cheap, I'm motivated to sell it because i dont have a hangar space for it anymore

SleazyDream 12-06-2002 11:44 PM

i'm seriously gona try and get my recrerational pilot's licence in the next year or so

Spunkyed 12-06-2002 11:47 PM

Why bother with recreational... for just a little more trouble you can get a private license and have none of the restrictions

nobody ever gets a recreational license, i dont even know why the FAA offers it

KC 12-07-2002 01:26 AM

Yep, Private Pilot is the certificate you want. :)

bhutocracy 12-07-2002 01:35 AM

this : http://lightspeedcash.com/internext2003/ is about the closest i'll get to flying in one of those :)

VirtuMike 12-07-2002 01:56 AM

I never thought of the nosewheel kicking up gravel to the rear prop. Interesting.

So Virtu ConAir is going to have to fly something else like a cessna 206 or something...

The reason I like that Velocity is that it hauls ass, has great specs, and you can maintain it yourself if you so desire. For the price it's way better than anything in its range, it matches the specs of aircraft at multiples the price.

Or I could wait for those new badass Eclipse personal jets to come out. When the rest of the world catches on to Got Jizz and Porn in Public I'll surely be able to pay cash for it. Those things haul ass and they are supposed to cost 52 cents per mile total to fly. That's sweet. I'd be doing weekend runs to Miami all the time. I hate having to show off my cameras to airport people because they're too fucking stupid to realize those camera looking things in the xray are cameras. Idiots.

I now invite you to buy my content and help contribute to the aircraft fund of VirtuConAir.

Sweet.

KingK7 12-07-2002 02:00 AM

Damn, I need to get me a pilots license.
Looks like alot of fun!

How does it work with flying in public airspace like that?
I mean there has to be a shitload of flights coming in and leaving the airport, how do you know what their exactly flightpaths are and how to avoid them? Probably sounds stupid but it is a question that I have always wondered..
Also, what kind of training must someone go through if they wanted to fly something like a military fighterjet? For personal use of course

I love it. I can't believe the price. Will you provide some mechanical history on it if you don't mind?

KingK7 12-07-2002 05:50 AM

Wow, awesome pics KC

theking 12-07-2002 05:52 AM

When I was in the military I joined an Air Club. They had an old Avion and I got my student license, but a slot in a military school opened and when I completed the school, for whatever the reasons were the Club had shut down and to my regret I did not persue flying after that.

Nydahl 12-07-2002 05:55 AM

I haven't a license but all pics above are very very nice to see...I must start thinking about that
I envy you:thumbsup

Cohen 12-07-2002 06:36 AM

I am educated as a pilot (former ATP) but because of a accident on a motorcycle, I cant fly commercial any more.
I started at Crystal River FlightSchool in Florida. Thats a REAL nice place beside the sea on the WESTcost of florida. I still visit the place at least 2 times a year.

If any of you guys EVER wanna fly to Florida - please visit another little airport called "Cedar Key" Its paradice on earth - but watch out for the runway - where the runway stops, the water begins

Backov 12-07-2002 08:43 AM

I've been wanting to get a pilots license forever. My childhood dream was fighter pilot (of course)..

It's about $7500 CDN to do it, and of course a fair bit of time.. Gonna have to do it in the new year for sure.

I envy you pilot guys. ;>

Cheers,
Backov
