a) They are unable to count 1st page clicks. (little technical knowledge)

b) They just want to shave.

c) They just use one server for all (little hd space).

They want newbies to think they're converting at 1:250 instead of 1:1000. Plus most of them are shaving signups anyway, and their ratios would look terrible if they showed 1st page clicks.
