Kazaa Lite Blocks AP Traffic
Today I installed Kazaa Lite version 2.0 and the new version installs a host file onto windows computers which basically reroutes traffic so that it will block ads that Kazaa might display. However it seems to block much more then Kazaa ads.
After failing to get to the stats area for AP I did some investigating and found that one of the lines in the host file that Kazaa Lite installs is this: 127.0.0.1 ctc.amateurpages.com I am not sure how many potential customers use Kazaa Lite but the ones who install it will not be able to reach AP. If many people use Kazaa Lite this could definetely influence the amount of traffic we send to AP. |
Curiously, I am interested.
:glugglug |
yeah, sextracker counters as well. blocks all kinds of stuff. :2 cents:
|
Good find. Considering the number of downloads from Download.com, you can assume a good percentage of them have installed the Lite version and from there I would say a good portion of people can't access AP.

Just did some more research. It blocks alot more the AP too. Blocks many trackers such as Hitbox and Sextracker. Here I will post some:
127.0.0.1 counter.hitbox.com 127.0.0.1 counter1.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter10.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter11.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter12.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter13.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter14.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter15.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter16.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter2.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter3.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter4.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter5.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter6.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter7.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter8.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 counter9.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 ctc.amateurpages.com 127.0.0.1 dialer.offshoreclicks.com 127.0.0.1 go.ezgreen.com 127.0.0.1 hitbox.com 127.0.0.1 sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 uk1.linksynergy.com 127.0.0.1 uk2.linksynergy.com 127.0.0.1 uk3.linksynergy.com 127.0.0.1 uk4.linksynergy.com 127.0.0.1 uk5.linksynergy.com 127.0.0.1 v0.extreme-dm.com 127.0.0.1 v1.extreme-dm.com 127.0.0.1 www.cashcount.com 127.0.0.1 www.commission-junction.com 127.0.0.1 www.sexlist.com 127.0.0.1 www.sextracker.com 127.0.0.1 z.extreme-dm.com 127.0.0.1 z0.extreme-dm.com 127.0.0.1 z1.extreme-dm.com There are many many more too. If you guys want me to post the whole file let me know and I will. |
Wow, there's quite a few on this list!
Oxcash FreeEzineBucks MaxCash PayCounter OffshoreClicks FPCTraffic SexTracker AmateurPages ... list goes on ... I had no idea either! WG |
That's what the fuck is wrong!! It blocks Freeezinebucks too. It won't let me get banners from http://banners.adultfriendfinder.com so the AFF banner on GFY never comes out for me. It's been doing this for months and I couldn't figure out for shit what was wrong.
This shit is getting uninstalled right now. |
Where is this file and does deleting the contents of it work?
|
2 questions:
1. I have the full kazaa version on my pc.. does the same shit happen compared to the lite version? 2. I have sextracker counter on a console of mine, what is it blocking from my surfers? |
Depends on which flavour of windows your using, but mine is in \\Windows\hosts
WG |
Quote:
2) no (edit: sorry, misread #2. surfers with kazaa lite installed cannot see your sextracker counter, but it is not blocking anything from your surfers) |
And all this time I thought it was because I ran Ad-aware on my computer. I got blocked the same time I ran that shit.
|
Yeah I simply took out the line that blocks ctc.amateurpages.com and I can get to stats now. The file is located for XP at
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts For Windoes 95 and 98 and ME I think its located at C:\windows\ and I think for Windows NT/2000/ at C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\ |
I'm confused - I don't get why they would do this. I don't use kazaa, but I assumed it was a file sharing program like napster.
Is this tro prevent people (or discourage them) from using kazaa to promote adult links or something? Years ago I tried one of those internet speed up programs and had problems getting to microsoft.com. I had the same problem with the hosts file - they actually put in (at the time) correct IP for microsoft (to presumably speed things up by not haviing to do dns lookups), but the IP had changed and it was going somewhere else. |
just looked in mine.. all i saw was 127.0.0.1 localhost
guess im ok. |
hmmm
|
Chris R - No this is Kazaa Lite, which is a version that replaces the regular Kazaa. Kazaa Lite gets rid of all the popup ads and other ads that Kazaa has. Apparently it does much more then I thought though.

The previous version of Kazaa Lite did not have this. I just upgraded from Kazaa Lite 1.7 to 2.0 and that is when I noticed this addition to blocking AP and others. You can see Kazaa Lite at
<a href="http://www.kazaalite.com/" target="_blank">http://www.kazaalite.com/</a> |
now I'm really fucked. I uninstalled kazaa lite before I saw that post where to find the file. I go to it now and it won't open the file. But I STILL can't get to Freeezinebucks.
|
BVF - make sure you are adminstrator or have permission to open that file
|
it's on my laptop so I would assume that I have permission to open the file.

I am forwarding this thread to one of Adult.com's attorneys.

I know the RIAA is about to shutdown the company that owns Kazaa. They can pile one more C&D on their stack of legal issues. Thanks for bringing this to light. -KC |
Kazaa Lite appears to have nothing to do with Kazaa.
It looks like this Kazaa Lite asshole operates out of the UK. He seems to be jacking not only everyone on that hosts file list, but also Kazaa themselves. I'll be in London next week. I might not to stop in for a little chat with this fucker. -KC |
Give him hell KC.
|
You see what happens when the inmates get ahold of your dns...
|
COULD you post the whole list, please? I'd like to have a look. Thanks.
|
Does anyone have any info on the Install Base of Kazaa Lite?
|
|
Very cool. Thanks man! :thumbsup
|
Strange... some of them are listed more than once... Why would that be? Does everyone who has access to this file on their own computers have the same file as the one posted by bawdy? If not, maybe this is a block-as-you-go list, maybe sniffing for a cookie-drop and then blocking that server...
|
this host file is directly from the kazaa lite install package
|
Ah...
Any idea why some things would appear more than once? This is puzzling. |
probably just the way the guy constructed the list.... most likely joining multiple lists together and not bothering to clean the entire list
|
Yeah, you're probably right. Sloppy bastard.

First, Kazaa Lite IS the way to go (since the ordinary Kazaa is packed with spy/adware).
The new hostfile it seems to have installed for you some of you is actually mentioned in the installtext. Its considered a feature ;): --------------------------- - Supertrick (optional) - This is a method to block certain websites/servers using a standard Windows file called 'Hosts'. We have customized this file to block a lot of advertising and pop-ups. If you already have your own customized Hosts file, you should not install the Supertrick, or backup your current file. --------------------------- The standard 14-year-old Kazaafileleecher would probably consider this a good thing (TM), but of course it is just annoying for the pornpeddlers. And yes, they seem to have overdone it a bit... blocking joinpages seems meaningless, but I can see the point in blocking banners. Anyway, its optional and in Kazaa Lite 2.0.2 (which I just installed) this option is -disabled by default-. |

Kazaa Lite IS the ordinary Kazaa without the crap. From the faq (http://doa2.host.sk/index.htm click F.A.Q.): --- What is KaZaA Lite? KaZaA Lite (sometimes called 'K-Lite') is a Peer-to-Peer File Sharing application that does not contain any 'Spyware'. In actual fact, it is a slightly modified version of the very popular KaZaA Media Desktop (often called the 'Original KaZaA' or 'KMD'), which is made by Sharman Networks. Both programs are very similar, with almost identical features and appearance. The main difference is that KaZaA Lite has been modified so that it does not have any of the 'Spyware' that comes with the Original KaZaA. . . KaZaA Lite is not a different program, it's the same program, just with out the Spyware, so any features you would like to have added will need to be added to the Original KaZaA first. If you would like to suggest a new feature KaZaA's web site has a feedback form that you can use to request new features. They don't support KaZaA Lite so suggest the feature to be added to 'KaZaA Media Desktop', not 'KaZaA Lite'. www.kazaa.com/en/contact/index.htm. --- They do it by replacing some DLLs and hacking the exe-file (not sure of this part). All ordinary Kazaa users prob. want to uninstall it, run Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.de) to remove the spyware (no, it doesn't disapear when uninstalling Kazaa) and install Kazaa Lite. |
Kazaa lite is far superior as like you say it doesn't have the spyware the kaza does. However to say it has none is not true - OK it's possibly adware rather than spyware but still annoys. However even with the adware it installs it's still better than all the crap 'normal' Kazaa puts in.

What version do you run and what adware are you talking about? |
It may have changed then as I still have 1.72 installed.
1.72 won't run unless cydoor is also installed. Only runs though while Kazaa is actually open and as I rarely use Kazaa it's not too much of a pain in the ass. |

When you get right down to it. ITS ALL ILLIGAL GARBAGE AND IT PISSED ME OFF!!!!!! WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK CONVERSION RATIOS ARE SO FUCKING SHITTY. HELLO. When I started in Dec of 99 all sorts of people were bitching about how bad business was compared to two years ago. Now compare it with two years ago. I should create me a virus that takes care of all this file sharing bullshit. Then maybee I can eat normal food again.

This is why I could not see my ctc stats (but I could see my ctc1 stats) in that Programs Support thread a while back. Thanks for solving the mystery 'GFY'. |
Correct me if I am wrong, but C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows XP) is suppose to look like this by default:
--------------------------- # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost --------------------------- And this is what it looks like now: http://www.sexhost.info/hosts.html That's a lot of Internet companies to be pissing off. I even see the old Extreme Tracker in there too. |
just wondering
why are they blocking norton antivirus? |
