I went to check them out when you first announced that you were going to partner with them, and the members area was very subpar, hard to navigate, not to mention the server was slow as hell.

Congratulations on the deal with Playboy. How in the world did you talk them into going full on hardcore with their softcore image? And they greenlighted all the pop-ups too. Playboy has a stronger brand image that you average porn site... they are probably concerned about have lots of sites diluting the brand...

but then again they probably just want to capitalise on that brand image themselves and not have to pay a commission to an affiliate for using the brand via se positioning in the first place

as mentioned in another thread, we already were contacted by the playboy lawyers when we prepared the promotion for playboycash. i think playboycash will not be as successful as it could be. playboycash is definitaly not a reason for a STRONG BUY.

It would suck if the Playboy Cash sites have the name Playboy plastered all over them and Playboy in the URL. Visitors will remember the name and type it in once they get home from work, instead of going back to check out the gallery and then click-thru.

Nobody will forget PlayboyBunnies.com, or any other title.

Would you kindly clarify the marketing limitations that webmasters will be allowed to do once the program is released. Are webmasters limited to promoting using licensed banners/images provided or can we market as freely as possible with the Playboy/Playmate and other associated trademarks?

My entire business is based around search engines so I want to know if we can market the sites using playboy trademarks or if that'll land us in trouble.

Make no mistake, Playboy wants you to make sales. It's a fine line. As long as you don't try to hijack Playboy's own traffic through meta tags, domain names, etc., you probably are safe.

Think about it, if they get the traffic, but now have to pay you for it instead, they aren't gonna be real happy. Would you?

If they get more traffic from us using their name to promote their brand, yes, I would think they would be happy. I sure as hell would. More traffic that I couldn't have gotten without help. Isn't that the sole purpose of an affiliate program?

It would be great to say "from the makers of Playboy!" Is that allowed?

Well, I would think it's the nature of competition when a company starts an affiliate program. For example, what if I was able to outrank one of your adult websites on search engines (ie: Adult.com). Would you sue me for that? So long as I'm sending that traffic thru my refcode to your program I would imagine there wouldn't be any problem. Sure, your now paying me for those sales but your trademarks aren't losing value. If a webmaster was redirecting those hits to a different program, that's a totally different story. I would imagine Playboy would be the same. Otherwise, your webmasters will be reluctant to promote the program in fear of getting sued or getting hassled by Playboy.

Lensman, you said we'd "probably" be safe. That's a tad too ambiguous I think.

Perhaps you should sit down with the folks over there and come up with some clear cut rules for domains, metas, text, use of model names etc etc etc for affiliates before the program rolls out.

Although it would be hysterical to get a check AND a cease and desist letter from playboy on the same day

I'm still worried about how the quality of the pics are on the Playboy+ site compared to the scanners.

Are we going to see pics that are like this in the member's section?

Granted the program is a success, I think that Playboy will break down on their strict policies within 6 months. They would have to since a number of us would still flood the search engines based on link pop, titles and text. If this program converts like I think it will, Playboy is about to face a ton of search engine sharks that will ultimately make them a whole lot more sales and add a ton to the bottom line. Yes the Yahoo search will look a little different for them but it will be full of links to pages upselling their program much harder than they know how to do.

Imagine all the new revenue they will be able to report (before they pay the affilliates:winkwink: ) They are a public company. Watch them change the rules.
