no deal? is that the deal? hehe

vending_machine 12-02-2002 02:27 PM

Huh, so I thought Playboy.com has never made any money? I seem to remember that Playboy itself has been pumping millions of dollars into it to keep it afloat.

We'll see if this works better I guess... :)

Socks 12-02-2002 02:31 PM

What I don´t get is that they (at least used to) charge $8.95 for a month or something.. I guess that will change soon enough with webmasters being allowed to push it. Hard to see how they´ll share the 8 bucks. It´s certainly worth a lot more

Cool. I've been waiting for this! :thumbsup

Lensman, Congratulations on the release of Playboy! That's awesome!! Glad to see that they hooked up with someone who knows what's up on the net side of things too - I'm sure the site will be hugely successful for you. :)

Well, I would think it's the nature of competition when a company starts an affiliate program. For example, what if I was able to outrank one of your adult websites on search engines (ie: Adult.com). Would you sue me for that? So long as I'm sending that traffic thru my refcode to your program I would imagine there wouldn't be any problem. Sure, your now paying me for those sales but your trademarks aren't losing value. If a webmaster was redirecting those hits to a different program, that's a totally different story. I would imagine Playboy would be the same. Otherwise, your webmasters will be reluctant to promote the program in fear of getting sued or getting hassled by Playboy.

Just my thoughts...

Yeh WiredGuy, this was an interesting issue for us too because we wanted to give webmasters every opportunity to promote the Hustler sites, even if that meant being outranked by an affiliate in SE's, but also protect our trademarked names.

We came up with a way to do both and our policy is that Flynt Digital affiliates are allowed and encouraged to use our trademark names to promote the sites with as long as they are promoting only our sites with those names. We even recommend using text links like, "You've tried the rest, now fuck the best HustlerŽ honeys, at (your website)! "

Although, we have a strict policy that anyone that has a domain name with our Hustler or other trademark name in it can only promote the Flynt Digital program (Hustler associated sites) on that domain exclusively. And regarding SE placements, we again allow and encourage you to use key words like Larry Flynt, Hustler, Barely Legal, Leg World, etc. After all, this is the basic concept of an affiliate program - you send us the traffic, we pay you well for it. And it's really a marketing bonus to have a brand name like Hustler, and/or Playboy for that matter, to use in your marketing strategies. Everyone, both the company and webmaster alike, only stand to pick up more business overall by using the brand names as marketing tools.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the subj.

Thanks Amber. I hope Playboy does the same move as Hustler, but I think we can all agree that Playboy has been extremely agressive in protecting its brand, even inactive domains which bear the term playboy. As for Hustler's affiliate program, I congratulate your move in letting webmasters use your brand. I hope Playboy learns from your example.

By the way, I don't remember meeting you in Vegas last year but I seem to have your business card in my rolodex. Hmm, have we spoken or done business together in the past? Your name rings a bell but I can't recall why exactly...

Thanks Amber.

WiredGuy, thank you for the Hustler kudos! I'm not sure if we met in Vegas or not. Your handle is definitely familiar to me too...but that could be from me lurking and seeing your posts.

Here's a pic of me...I'm the one with the longer hair. lol

Your welcome Amber. While I don't recognize you offhand, I am guessing we met since I do have a pic of me in your booth with Chrissy M, so I'm guessing I met someone at your booth last year. I hate it when too much partying renders my mind useless! Maybe it was at an after party? Hehe... Well, let's try it this way, here's a pic of me and ChrissyM, maybe you'll recognize me: http://www.wired2000.com/Vegas/101-0130_IMG.JPG

If not, I'll meet (re-meet) you in about 4 weeks at Internext. Hehe, have a good night Amber.

AMBER ROCKS---------Great person.

Honeyslut 12-02-2002 11:11 PM

Yeah know it will be no domains, text or meta tags that say play boy

:2 cents: :2 cents:

Ambergirl 12-02-2002 11:34 PM

Awww...Thank You, SNOW! :)

WiredGuy, you look very familiar to me; I think we did meet
briefly. Regardless, we'll meet for sure in a few weeks. It's going to be a crazy busy show - I know, "what's new" - but I must be insane for actually looking forward to it. Even though it's always a blast and I get tons of business done...I always come home with "convention crud" from lack of sleep. LOL

Socks 12-04-2002 12:52 AM

So uhmm... I´m kind of embarassed to ask this.. But how much for the crud?

Lensman 12-04-2002 01:02 AM

You cannot use the terms Playboy or Playmate in your metas or domain, but you can use it on your page, as long as you follow some basic guidelines.

Stay tuned.
