Is anyone freaked out about 2012?

And the Galactic Alignment? Every 26,000 years the cycle is complete and the sun is in the absolute center of the Milky Way galaxy. From what I understand, this will reverse our magnetic poles and cause all other types of catastrophic events.

The last cycle was when the Neanderthals went extinct and Cro-Magnon man appeared on the Earth. The Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21, 2012 and Nostradamus predicted it as well centuries before the Mayans.

I'm not sure if I believe in this hocus pocus astrological bullshit but I know for damn sure that I'll have enough guns, ammunition, food, and supplies to get through it. If not, I'll have my guns to take what I need.

I'm more freaked about having a crusader for "change" taking office of president in a couple weeks with a ton of horrible ideas.

GeoAdultKiel 01-09-2009 10:17 AM

My question is when on 12/21/12 will this happen? By noon here in EST it will already be 12/22/12 in some places on Earth.. It's gonna be like Y2K. Yeah, everything is aligned.. sweet but that shit happens all the time...

edit: Regardless a sweet ass "end of the universe" party is in order

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milky_Way#Sun.27s_location

Sun's location

The Sun (and therefore the Earth and Solar System) may be found close to the inner rim of the Galaxy's Orion Arm, in the Local Fluff or the Gould Belt, at a hypothesized distance of 7.62±0.32 kpc (~25,000±1,000 ly) from the Galactic Center.[30][31][32][33] The distance between the local arm and the next arm out, the Perseus Arm, is about 6,500 light-years.[34] The Sun, and thus the Solar System, is found in what scientists call the galactic habitable zone.

The Apex of the Sun's Way, or the solar apex, is the direction that the Sun travels through space in the Milky Way. The general direction of the Sun's galactic motion is towards the star Vega near the constellation of Hercules, at an angle of roughly 60 sky degrees to the direction of the Galactic Center. The Sun's orbit around the Galaxy is expected to be roughly elliptical with the addition of perturbations due to the galactic spiral arms and non-uniform mass distributions. In addition the Sun oscillates up and down relative to the galactic plane approximately 2.7 times per orbit. This is very similar to how a simple harmonic oscillator works with no drag force (damping) term. These oscillations often coincide with mass extinction periods on Earth; presumably the higher density of stars close to the galactic plane leads to more impact events.[35]

It takes the Solar System about 225?250 million years to complete one orbit of the galaxy (a galactic year),[36] so it is thought to have completed 20?25 orbits during the lifetime of the Sun and 1/1250th of a revolution since the origin of humans. The orbital speed of the Solar System about the center of the Galaxy is approximately 220 km/s. At this speed, it takes around 1,400 years for the Solar System to travel a distance of 1 light-year, or 8 days to travel 1 AU.[37]

Maybe they just couldnt figure out what happens beyond the alignment, so they ended it there.
If the poles flipped, we could survive. As long as the field stayed strong anyway. Better than a world-killing asteroid anyway!

I also think it's a stretch to call the sun blocking the "center" of the galaxy an "eclipse" like some people do. They stretch all kinds of shit to fit the ideal/cool/weirdest possible explanation.

Poles have flipped before, thats proven in shocked quartz. It might fuck up technology, but as long as the magnetic field stays strong, it'll be survivable.

And where the fuck are they now? Too fucking stupid to survive is where they are now, and that's what your basing this on?

Good luck shit for brains, see you on Dec 13 2012.

Never said I believed in it, just asking if anyone was freaking out over it. If you read my post it clearly states that I don't believe in the hocus pocus b.s. but you may have skipped over that part.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012#20...speculation s

John Major Jenkins, and others [14] claim that an alignment will occur when the sun rises above the horizon on December 21 2012, at which point the sun will rise in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, thus causing an alignment between the earth, sun, and the galactic center.[15] This event is said to cause numerous earth changes, however that is not possible considering that the event is only a visual phenomenon from the earths perspective, which is caused by the precession of the equinoxes or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth, which only changes our perspective, not the actual position of the earth in relation to the galaxy. In short, there is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because other than the tilt of the earth, nothing will be any different than any other solstice.

crockett 01-09-2009 10:35 AM

It will be a good line to get laid with..

If you think the Mayans were stupid then you clearly never made it past the 2nd grade. :2 cents:

TampaToker 01-09-2009 10:39 AM

Im not all into this hocus pocus stuff but when multiple religions and cultures predict things 1000's of years ago and modern science backs there claims its kinda scary :2 cents:

I didn't make it past the 2nd grade, and yet 30 years later, I function in 2009 and can type my own thoughts on a keyboard connected to a computer that I put together from purchased parts.

Not bad for a 1st grade education. Stupid.

I was thinking the same thing. The Mayans were one of the most advanced civilizations ever to walk the face of the Earth. Maybe they disappeared on purpose; they knew how shit was going to go down and just said fuck it. :2 cents:

From what I understand either the world ends or we ascend into the 4th super special rainbow dimension and can read minds. I'm getting drunk either way.

It is just a galactic alignment and may mean nothing more than the ending of one age and the beginning of the other. It is sad to see how set on global destruction our society is. You need to quit listening to so many doom sayers.

I am not sure where you got your information but we are no where near the center of the galaxy nor could we even get remotely close before 2012 or ever. Our sun will be aligned with the center of our galaxy under the sign of Ophiuchus, the discarded 13th sign under the zodiac. The mayans called it the dark rift or dark road.

Oh and BTW, if the poles shift, all the guns and ammunition and supplies will be pointless. A rapid pole shift, the ones the doom sayers are talking about, is more than likely going to kill off every living thing on the planet. A pole shift of the magnetic poles ONLY, will probably cause minimal negative effects and is nothing to worry about.

And so they left 1100 years before anything was to happen? Good theory.

They must have sat around thinking. "I could finish this temple, but I dunno.. shit's gonna go down in a thousand years. What's the point? Fuck it bro, I'm outta here."

I have just watched every season of X Files over the past few months. The only thing that freaks me out about 2012 is that they might do another Xfiles movie then to address that plot element and it will suck as bad as the last movie.

They've been saying same shit for many years now, each time different date was proposed, and of course nothing happened...

Just for the record.

I do not believe in the 2012 doomsday scenerio. I fell asleep watching the History Channel last night and it was kind of intriguing. Like someone else said, people thousands of years ago predicted something happening and is now being backed up by science is always interesting. The reason I posted is to see if anyone was actually freaking out about it.

the poles might shift.. they had shifted before. I read some article about finding pottery that when fired, points to magnetic north. apparently it was pointing south.

the only time we have genetic evolution on a global level is during ice ages.. according to history anyway

actually from my understanding there have been many magnetic field shifts on Earth already, but none of them wasn't recently enough for our civilization to remember it

so not sure what happens when the poles shift, but surely not the end of the world
