so not sure what happens when the poles shift, but surely not the end of the world

The magnetic field generated by the Earth is a defense barrier that protects the planet from a variety of dangers. If that field were to shift and take a few years to re-stabilize, it could very well be a potential disaster for the inhabitants of this planet.

At the least, you aren't going to want to stay outside for any extended periods of time. At the worst, charged particles blast into your body and turn you into the Toxic Avenger.

Correct. It's the end of an age. Not the end of the world. What people should be concerned with is the screwed up individuals in our world trying to use this to further their agenda of world control. There are two ways the new age can go. One is a dark age of tyranny, police state, a rule by few, slavery, starvation, death on massive scale etc. Or a true free society where everyone can get along, noone has to worry about starving to death, highly advanced technology, super futuristic cities etc, etc. Right now we are heading towards the first but there is a real struggle going on whether people realize it or not bucking against it.

As far as the pole shift. The poles are hand have already been shifting. It's definitely going to change some landscapes. But that's about all I know for sure.

actully if you read the wikipedia link i posted, it looks like such changes take millions of years.. assuming it's correct info

i remember reading about this, but mostly the "new age" theories websites but its been a few years ago, i stopped caring after I realized it's BS and forgot the facts

what still interests me are asteroids though :)

If the poles flipped, we could survive. As long as the field stayed strong anyway. Better than a world-killing asteroid anyway!

I also think it's a stretch to call the sun blocking the "center" of the galaxy an "eclipse" like some people do. They stretch all kinds of shit to fit the ideal/cool/weirdest possible explanation.

Poles have flipped before, thats proven in shocked quartz. It might fuck up technology, but as long as the magnetic field stays strong, it'll be survivable.

im gonna backup everything onto disks just in case

Well, technically, the sumerians gave us all that 1,000's upon 1,000's of years before the mayans and they were the origin of all civilization on earth. They knew things that don't seem possible, including the full number of planets in our solar system, that the sun was the center, that the earth was round and not flat, they had complex systems of mathematics that are still in use today.

It boggles the mind how they figured all that out and how smart they were. Hell, you ask someone what the sun is today they might not even know. Scary.

For an ancient civilization they were advanced at a few things. Certainly not all. They had a calendar and an excellent series of astronomical observations and forecasts. They had some impressive architecture and art. They used hieroglyphs for writing but not an alphabet. I don't think they stand up well to the ancient Greek civilization though - and they came over 1000 years after it. As far as we know they never produced a military leader with the genius of Alexander, a political philosopher the equivalent of Plato, a moral philosopher the equivalent of Socrates, a scientist the equivalent of Aristotle or Eratosthenes, a mathematician the equivalent of Euclid. I could go on and on. We can't say so for certain as their writings were for the most part destroyed but it doesn't seem likely.

A fascinating culture but I don't see any reason to get carried away with over-veneration.

ADL Colin 01-13-2009 07:39 AM

As far as Pluto anyone have a reliable source that the Mayans were aware of it? The dresden codex seems to contain locations of Venus, Mercury, moon, eclipses, solstices. I don't see anything on Pluto. I don't think any other ancient civilizations were aware of Pluto either. Anyone with a solid reference to contradict that?

Holly 01-13-2009 07:50 AM

Let me guess- you watched that Nostradamus special on the History Channel the other night? I saw that, too.

MrMaxwell 01-13-2009 07:56 AM

What, in 2012 our time we're all supposed to be killed by something?
Great.
No one will be around to miss anyone else and earth could breathe then.
What in all hell is there to be AFRAID OF?
Fear SUFFERING and NOT DEATH.
Weak minded normal people these days. Pfft.

Until that happens, fuck it I just like anyone want to eat good food and cum in foxy ladies mouths and between their butt cheeks and inside of their hot wet sex.
Well since I've got this woman, just one for now.
One is enough for me.
I'm old.
She doesn't lie to me and is brutally honest.
She doesn't want to hear "yes dear".
She sucks on my penis like an ANGEL.

If we all die tomorrow fine. Pfft.

I am not sure where you got your information but we are no where near the center of the galaxy nor could we even get remotely close before 2012 or ever. Our sun will be aligned with the center of our galaxy under the sign of Ophiuchus, the discarded 13th sign under the zodiac. The mayans called it the dark rift or dark road.

Oh and BTW, if the poles shift, all the guns and ammunition and supplies will be pointless. A rapid pole shift, the ones the doom sayers are talking about, is more than likely going to kill off every living thing on the planet. A pole shift of the magnetic poles ONLY, will probably cause minimal negative effects and is nothing to worry about.

There are so many doom sayers because the current state of the human mind is chained by beliefs of beginning and ending. People feel the need to label these things on everything because their belief is grounded from the knowledge of their own beginning and end. Personally I don't believe in either. 2012 will come and go with little real change.

as for the Myans, they were a great race. The only pricks who say bad things about them not being around are racist in nature anyway and not worth trying to convince otherwise. :2 cents:

Yes. In the Sumerian Tablets, originating from the first civilization known to man, they have depictions of a complete solar system. Their name for the planet was Gaga and in all their writings and cylinder seals it is depicted as the smallest planet in our solar system.

However, the symbols and writings are often interpreted differently from one specialist to the next and we are left to interpret what a dead civilization left behind.

TheDoc 01-13-2009 08:16 AM

I have never seen more bad and wrong information in my life.. You can for sure tell that lots of you just read whatever you see and move on.

First, the Mayans are like 5,000 years older than Nostradamus. And Nostradamus was a total fake, fraud, scammer, he was a great story teller that modified other peoples stories.

2012, end of the age.. It is the end of the age, we will be moving into Aquarius. It's not the end of the earth.

The poll shift, is actually happening now. It happens over 100's of years. It's not like the earth will just flip up side down and S. will be north N. It's a "shift" in the degrees north, as we show recored in history to have happened before. A small amount over 100 years makes a huge difference..

Every time we have made major evolutionary jumps is when we let the mass majority of people, not be suppressed. Very easy to see all the points throughout history that suppressed the ability to think and have free thought, killing our ability to grow.

Dec 21, 2012 will be like every other Dec 21. The Sun will stop moving, and from that day forward it's fighting back, removing the dark and slowly adding more light. The entire event, the reset, the rebirth, ect. that the Mayans talk about.. Is all about around the stars and has nothing to do with us.

Exactly, as well as every other supposed prognosticator. There is no way to predict the future for one simple reason. If one could predict the future then that must mean the future is already written and since it isn't everything else is just a guess.

Like you said, open to interpretation. That's someone's idea that the Enuma Elish, a babylonian creation myth, in its describing the god "gaga" is actually referring to Pluto. However to believe that is what they meant - you have to think they believed "Pluto" was once a moon of Saturn that broke from its orbit and ended up where Pluto is.

Seems like a real stretch to think based on this story they believed the astronomical event above happened.

Here is the Enuma Elish; in its regular form. A tale of creation.
http://www.sacred-texts.com/ane/enuma.htm

Example:

"Ansar opened his mouth, and
Unto Gaga, his minister, spake the word.
"O Gaga, thou minister that rejoicest my spirit,
Unto Lahmu and Lahamu will I send thee.
... thou canst attain,
... thou shalt cause to be brought before thee.
... let the gods, all of them,
Make ready for a feast, at a banquet let them sit,
Let them eat bread, let them mix wine,
That for Marduk, their avenger they may decree the fate.
Go, Gaga, stand before them"
...
"Gaga went, he took his way and
Humbly before Lahmu and Lahamu, the gods, his fathers,
He made obeisance, and he kissed the ground at their feet."

There it is. This is Pluto?!!!

GPallan 01-13-2009 09:08 AM

The last cycle was when the Neanderthals went extinct and Cro-Magnon man appeared on the Earth. The Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21, 2012 and Nostradamus predicted it as well centuries before the Mayans.
