Well, to be honest, when I think of hard rock I tend to lean towards Deep Purple, Cream, Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Tull, Stones, Who, Black Sabbath . . . . well, you get the idea.

d-null 01-07-2009 09:08 PM

define "Hard Rock" ?

Metallica isn't usually included in the genre of "Hard Rock", unless you are using the term loosely to include all music that isn't "Soft Rock" ?

justinsain 01-07-2009 09:42 PM

Smoke a big fat one and listen to Ted Nugent's " Stranglehold " and you'll feel just like that scene in " Rock Star "

Hmmm, this question is infinitely arguable.

But, for my $.02, I'll say Stairway to Heaven is by and far, the most well known and the single most iconic classic rock song ever.

"Hard Rock" is really a pretty ambiguous term, with regard to genre. Just look, it evoked votes for monkeys gnawing on guitars (godsmack). Interpreting "hard rock" as "heavier classic rock", and thus disqualifying my personal favorite classic rock band of all time, Boston (STFU, their level of musical talent and composition is stupefying), I feel there's no contender with Black Sabbath as the band. From them, I'd have to pick N.I.B. as the most anthemic and well known of their songs.

Sick Bastard 01-07-2009 11:44 PM

Tough to narrow it down... How about AC/DC's Jailbreak or Dirty Deeds, or Helmet's Milquetoast, or Metallica's Creeping Death or Damage Inc., or Megadeth's Peace Sells or Holy Wars, or Judas priest's Metal Gods, or Pantera's Strength Beyond Strength or Sex Pistol's God Save The Queen, or Tool's The Grudge or Hooker With a Penis??? Just a few that come to mind. Nice playlist for you right there.

Not the best hard rock song or even close to being their best song. :2 cents: It was marketing and ghosts.

Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water

Gotta be up there IMO, if we talking classic hard rock.

Agreed . . . or their version of Kentucky Woman. I used to go to this local pizza joint when I was a teen, and there was a jukebox that you could get 3 songs for a quarter. I always played:

1. Kentucky Woman - Deep Purple
2. Easy Living - Uriah Heep
3. Man, this was like 1969 or 1970, I am surprised I remember two of the three.

It'll come to me. . . . time passes .. . . . I am leaning towards All Along the Watchtower. I am also thinking I may have rotated the third song and that is why all these Hendrix songs are popping into my head.
