US Government to post 20,000 Troops on streets of USA

According to the Washington Post:

The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...002217_pf.html

Now this is food for some thought.......:disgust

Darkland 12-11-2008 03:55 PM

Nice little twist you put on that title... I didn't read anywhere in that article, which is old news already, that they were "hitting the streets."

Yeah to fear mongering :thumbsup

All over a cop shooting a kid that was tossing or preparing to toss an incediary device at them... Kid had it coming if you ask me. No one would say boo if that happened here.

Yep it was but I think a lot of the anger is far deeper than the shooting of the boy, They were interviewing a few of the protestors on TV and they were saying that they were so pissed at struggling and dismayed at the government with the way the economy is..

Yes but not to be used on US citizens since that is unconstitutional.

And people are missing the word "deployment" means on the streets.

alexchechs 12-11-2008 04:32 PM

I guess better safe than sorry but it's still a bit out of control if you ask me. Bad enough I have to see soldiers with guns at Penn Station....

Martin 12-11-2008 04:34 PM

The Police State is almost in full gear. You'll love it when they start going house to house looking for your guns :)

Sly 12-11-2008 04:40 PM

I'm confused... people were pissed off at the slow response after 9/11 and Katrina... a possible solution arises itself and its no good. So shall we just have another major attack and/or major natural disaster and pray everything goes good?

I know I know... police state sounds a lot more exciting and dramatic.

Fat Panda 12-11-2008 04:40 PM

i am not scared

And you're missing the two that are going before it...

"ready for or ready to" which pretty much STILL means they won't be "on the streets."

I am not talking about any other article, read my posts. And I am very well read on what is going on right now in our country.

Actually I got a better question for you and the rest in this thread... What are YOU going to do if they start taking the guns away? Or what are YOU going to do if the troops are deployed against us?

All ears...:thumbsup

I'm sure you have lots of great extreme libertarian sources.

It was more of a rhetorical question since in the long run there really isn't ANYTHING you can do. Like I said in earlier threads about topics like this, people only like to talk or bitch about it rather than trying to do anything about it.

Even if they do what all these conspiracy nuts think is going to happen, running won't be an option either because they will close down the borders first.

A man can't win a war if he dies after the first battle.

Well I dont think it will come to the extreme the nuts think it will. The government will keep on doing what it has been doing all along. Taking our rights away without force and in most cases having the majority of the public behind them. Be it in the name of terror, drugs, child safety, global warming, or whatever they can think up to make both the left and the right think they need to give up their rights. This goes for both the left and the right. So far its working like a charm.

Sadly that is quite true of "my" battle (if being). I know and like someone said earlier "how can we know let alone post it?" The trouble is that is what we should do, and not what we can do. So what is the answer? Preparation. Not bending over. I would rather die than be a slave. Wouldn't any of you?

A man can't ride your back unless it's bent. :disgust

Edit: plus sadly the war is almost over, that's what most of you really don't realize :(

I agree... You should see what they AREN'T doing to educate our kids. I knew 10x more when I was my son's age than he does today. Hell in just one more year he will be the age I was when I walked away from home and there is no way he is ready for that. I cant even get him to get a job.

I read a good article, I wish I could find it, about how kids these days are learning and maturing in this high speed technological internet age and the damages it is causing, not only in social situations but decision making as well.

Everyone thinks this is about security. Most people aren't going to care about whats going on until it really affects them. After the deflation and then the hyper-inflation occurs within the next year most people will question what the hell is going on. I guess by then everyone will be wearing "tinfoil hats." The real wake up call for the webmasters hanging around boards like these will be when they roll out internet 2. If you're not familiar with it you should start doing your research now because it's already in the works. I've talked to the guys running the cabling here in town. They know of it as "the grid." Simply put it will be a corporate controlled very highspeed lowcost if not free internet which most of the large ISPs and IT co's in the US are behind. You will have to get approval from the likes of the FCC to have a website.

Why would anyone want it if all the good stuff is on "internet 1"?

I think it's moreso that the US public has been paralyzed into submitting to authority.

A lot of things have to happen before a riot breaks out, and US authorities are likely to stop the altercation very early.

This is a country where it's technically illegal to protest. You must first get permission though a permit from authorities (who use the approved number of protesters to staff the right amount of riot police next to them). Unauthorized groups get broken up (or arrested) long before they grow to riot level nowadays.

The FCC just recently called for free broadband over the analog TV frequencies that will soon be available.

I've believed for years that they would eventually find some way to obtain internet content oversight like they have for TV and radio. Now think about it. If the internet is going to be available on the old TV airwaves (something they have content power over), then it makes sense that they will go after website content deemed unfit by them.

pornguy 12-11-2008 07:47 PM

The idea for these troops is to have them as stay at home soldiers that can be called into action any place in the nation within a matter of hours. Hate to say this, but its nothing new.
