Yeah it plays everything the phone is fucking amazing. Full keyboard, touch screen and roller ball.

baddog 10-22-2008 11:40 AM

I was watching this last night

That $10 million they are giving away to developers sounds like a great incentive for someone. This is actually a phone I might be interested in purchasing.

Porko 10-22-2008 11:44 AM

nice brick :)

Sosa 10-22-2008 11:46 AM

I wish I could buy these new phones with Alltel. They take forever to get newer stuff. Oh well Jan 1 Verizon is taking them over. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Adult Insider Dave 10-22-2008 12:35 PM

I have the voyager with Verizon atm. It isn't bad but not the best. I might get the new Blackberry that verizon is coming out with.

Ive been with ATT for awhile now and have no issues with the service.

I wasnt knocking Tmobile...just saying that so far I've been happy with what I've got.

Pete-KT 10-22-2008 12:45 PM

tmobile sucks in michigan, 0 bars at the office and 1 bar at home when i used to have it

Manowar 10-22-2008 12:49 PM

looks pretty fucking slick

Bojangles 10-22-2008 01:11 PM

Looks cool.

Megan Essog 10-22-2008 01:19 PM

Aww man... Canada sucks when it comes to getting technology!

DamianJ 10-22-2008 01:25 PM

Woot! Big. Ugly. Only works with gmail for email. HAVE to slide the keyboard out to use the browser! Awesome waste of real estate to zoom in, a little graphic +/- comes up!

And worst, the most inconsistant UI most tech pundits have ever seen! It's like all the apps were designed by different departments who were not allowed to talk with each other.

It will get better, it's very 1.0, very raw. But it's doing nothing to excite me at the moment.

DWB 10-22-2008 01:35 PM

They will have it cracked and selling in Bangkok within a week just like they did the "uncrackable" iPhone.

A-n-D-r-E-S 10-22-2008 01:59 PM

That phone is so awesome!

Chosen 10-22-2008 02:25 PM

Looks pretty impressive :thumbsup

Violetta 10-22-2008 02:29 PM

Why is it so DAMN ugly?=?

T-Mobile has possibly the worst coverage of any other company. :2 cents:

candyflip 10-22-2008 03:24 PM

The Android source code was also released. So expect to see this running, fully functional on many other existing devices really soon.

I believe that T-Mobile claim to have presold over 1,000,000 of these G1s, which is an HTC phone. That's a nice number to start things off.

There are already a number of apps in development. A few iPhone developers cloning their apps for deployment on the platform.

ro8in 10-22-2008 03:32 PM

Nice phone with nice OS? Yes
I-Phone killer? Hell no!

Plus which phone is the average person going to buy?
HTC G1 with OpenSource geeky Android OS or the silky smooth Iphone (hey this is an ipod phone.. cool)?

Its a nice try tho.. Now lets throw it on the pile with the Ipaqs and BlackBerrys..

Oh lil edit..
If i'm a developer I would spend my expensive $$ time developing for iphone thats for sure even tho its not opensource and blabla but hey the coolest stuff also comes out to windows not linux so no change there..

So im not to worried. Im all set with my iphone..

SiMpLe 10-22-2008 03:34 PM

I passed on the iPhone waiting for this bad boy to come out - Sooooo ready to retire my Treo

aico 10-22-2008 03:34 PM

One of the nicest features of the iPhone is the app store on iTunes. How is Google going to compete with that?

Really? One of the nicest features?

I mean, it works, but there is so many more compelling things.

Anyway to answer your question, Google will compete with it with...an app store.

But it actually creates an interesting thing.

You don't need to put it on the app store. You can host it on your site. Link people to it, they download and install it.

No control. No checking it won't break your phone.

I can see that causing one or two tiny teeny problems.

I mean, in many ways its much better. Much better. Anyone can make anything. I'v ehad the BEST idea for a porn app for the iphone, would be easy and go viral in hours. Hoever, Steve won't allow porn on the iphone, so it won't get into the store, so I can't make it for the iphone.

I could for the G1. I could host it. People could download and install it.

That is kinda better.

But the loss of control and the problems that creates might outweigh the good things. Have to wait for the first malicious apps to come out I guess...

I know 4 people who bought iPhones. Three have already dumped them for different phones, the 4th is waiting for the new Blackberry. That doesn't sit well with me.

seeric 10-22-2008 04:15 PM

all your g1 porn domains are belong to me.

They have an "app store" of their own and also put up $10,000,000 to fun developers and their projects.

brand0n 10-22-2008 04:17 PM

i dropped my blackberry to get the iphone

They ALL complained about the lack of cut and paste, but the main issues they all brought up were with ATT. So really, none of them hated the phone.

I'm just a bitter (but still very happy) Sprint customer. :winkwink:

So its a big deal to spend a tenth of a second to open the keyboard up and then smoke the iphone on words per minute. Its not big and ugly, its smaller than the Iphone and it looks like a chocolate bar.

Iscari0t 10-22-2008 04:45 PM

As I understand it, it can't do stereo bluetooth and has no headphone jack, so you can only listen to your music in mono. Anyone know if that's true? If so, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference for its use as a phone / browser, but if you want to replace an iPod, it might be an issue.

sltr 10-22-2008 04:47 PM

waiting on the touchscreen version to come out soon..................

seeric 10-22-2008 05:01 PM

thanks CF

qxm 10-22-2008 05:04 PM

Well done on finding two points out of my long list to come back on.

However, you are sadly horribly wrong on the size issue.

There are many faults with the iPhone, so pick one that is at least true if you want to bash it (lack of cut and paste, shit camera, etc).

iPhone
Dimensions: 4.5" x 2.4" x 0.46" Weight 4.8 ounces

G1
Dimensions - 4.60? x 2.16? x 0.62?; Weight: 5.6 ounces

Yes one of, as in a singular of many.
