It seems like the algorithm gets really bizarre and if the image isn't found on the first couple of pages, it has less and less of a chance because they start to show some really irrelevant images after that.

HOLY SHIT

I didn't know about that, and I think this could mark the beginning of a scary trend with the search engine in general

is google playing with the idea of adding volunteer human rating to the search engine algorithm? this could really change seo if they were to do that

They launched the image labeler like 2 years ago :P but now its linked on images.google.com so I'm guessing its starting to be used in rankings etc.

Probably because instead of shwing those with keywords in the image name, title of the html, or otherwise within the same block of text, it begins to show results which merely contain the keyword anywhere within the html itself.

That's why they use a random partner... if you don't match on any keywords then your suggestions or label is disregarded. :2 cents:
