Need help with cpu
I just got a k7sem amd duron xp 1200 it's supposed to be 1.2 or 1.3 mhz but its reporting back to me that is onlt 892 mhz would anyone know how to get this fixed?
|
Ok ok, easy there Tom. Duron XP ? Are you sure it's not an Athlon XP ? Also, are you sure it's not one of those 1200+ models ? The numbers just represent the rating, compared to the equivalent Intel CPUs.
E.g. if you get an Athlon XP 1700+, it only runs at ~1400 Mhz I believe, but is as fast as an imaginary 1700 Mhz Intel. |
I guess you got a Duron 1.2Ghz, right ?
|
are you sure you configured your elitegroup mobo correctly ?
|
A duron 1200 is, or at least should be, 1200 mhz, or 1.2 Ghz. The Athlon XP crap (Athlon XP 2200 is actually less than 2Ghz) only goes for Athlon XP processors.
|
go into your bios , and set your frequency to 333 !
thatll do it |
yes its a duron

That's normal, the AMD 1200+ XP DURON CPU run at 850 mhz
I have a 1800+ wich run at 1533 mhz.. it's only the brand name.. not the cpu frequency.. 1800+ does not run at 1800 mhz |
mine is reading 892 I was assured it was a 1.2 gig cpu

|
i bet your multiplier is set at 4.5 and your clock frequency is at 100 (making 200 with DDR)
set it up to 133 (or 266) |
ok BUT HOW???? lol
|
no carrier and equinox gave the correct answer.
|
oh lord im so lost
|
What AMD model do you have?
Athlon or Duron? If you have an AMD Duron at 1.2 ghz, you are right, there is a problem. If you have an AMD Athlon 1200+, it runs at 850 mhz... |
okay , I have the same board as you so I just checked to be sure
hit delet to enter Bios and then select " voltage/frequecy control" which should be there, seeing as how we have the same model board, however, I may have newer version ( if so Youll have to flash the bios) and select 133 as frequency and then reboot and all should be fine I am running a amd Athlon xp 1900+ and thats all I had to do hope that helps LOL worse comes to worse , do what I did call the closest little puter shop and say you just bought it and..... they help you out :) |

It's either an AMD duron 1200 or an Athlon 1200+ You need to know wich one you have, it's kinda important if you want answers. |

Anyway, found a Yahoo! store selling it ?! "INCLUDES MOTHER BOARD WITH AMD 1200+ XP DURON CPU(RUNS AT 850 MHZ)" http://shop.store.yahoo.com/spectrai...dur12xppr.html Your CPU runs at 850mhz, not 1200 mhz.. If the guy that sold you the CPU claimed it was supposed to run at 1200mhz, you just got ripped off and that seller is partying with naked chicks right now.. |
My cpu is a neural net processor, a learning computer
|
must be one tecnology passed by quick ,
I went from an 800 to a 1000 to a 1300 to a 1900 never saw the 1200+ LOL wierd http://www.ecsusa.com/ecsusa/www.ecs...load/index.htm is the link if you do need to ever flash your bios , but make sure its sunny outside , you lose power , you lose your PC |

"INCLUDES MOTHER BOARD WITH AMD 1200+ XP DURON CPU(RUNS AT 850 MHZ)" http://shop.store.yahoo.com/spectrai...dur12xppr.html So, you should be lucky to have 892 mhz, you have 42 extra mhz for free! :Graucho |
And BTW,
it should be "AMD Duron 1200 Socket A OEM" not "AMD Duron XP 1200+ Socket A OEM" There isn't a AMD duron xp 1200+ on the market. It's simply a mistake by the retailer. I found tons of pages with "AMD Duron 1200 Socket A OEM" on google, but 2-3 pages with "AMD Duron XP 1200+ Socket A OEM" So there is something fishy there.. |
Hey mate thanks for all ya help I agree something is fishy but for 109.00 what the hell can I complain right? lol thanks for ya help ya know how to overclock the cpu?

va2k,
read this: http://www.sysopt.com/userreviews/mb...ECS_K7SEM.html look at the last review on the page "Reviewed By:Eric Date: 8/25/2002 If you recieved the K7SEM v3.0 be aware. The bios string after booting this board reads as Duron XP 1200+. This is a lie. The chip that is integrated into this motherboard is actually an older 850Mhz spitfire duron overclocked to 892Mhz. See for yourself. Download a cpu mhz clocking program. I tried both wcpuid and cpu-z and to my amazement found out that I was only getting 892Mhz. ECS/PCChips both won't specify what chip is actually onboard but most online stores are selling these as 1.2Ghz durons. I didn't believe myself until i took off the fan that is on with 2 screws and to my amazement saw D850 in the chips serial number. I would suggest returning this product to the place you got it and filing a complaint with ECS " So basically, what you got, is really a rip off version, an older 850Mhz spitfire duron overclocked to 892Mhz. |
that is no supprise its allways something with my dumb ass :(

That's some funny shit, I mean, those retailers actually tell people it's at 1200 mhz. They are even using a confusing cpu name that does not exist. LOL! |

By the way, I read somewhere about that ripoff motherboard and cpu that the cpu was soldered to the motherboard LOL! I hope it's not in your case. If it is, I really don't know how you will be able to upgrade your cpu. Taken from another board : http://www.techimo.com/forum/t31363.html "I guess I should clarify a bit. When the computer is booted it shows that the CPU is an AMD Duron 1200+ (that's what the BIOS says) but in Windows XP it says Duron 892Mhz. I looked through the BIOS to see if it was a multiplier issue or wasn't set to 133Mhz bus speed and there is no way to change that. There isn't even a jumper to change on the board itself. I looked through the manual that came with the board (if you call a folded double sided sheet a manual !!) and there is no jumper to set the FSB to 100 or 133MHz. Well there are 2 jumpers on the board 1 to clear the CMOS and another to set the IRQ and base address of the onboard sound. Jim" |
I looking at it now it dont apperar to be soldered
|
AMD is not as stable as Intel - to many bugs are found... I'd recommend Intel...
|
the way AMD classifies there CPU is that they add the Mhz, and the FSB ,
i have an athlon XP 1800+ but it is a 1544Mhz, and a FSB of 266 Mhz they do this because intel is way ahead and it make amd look close in the compatition if they combine the stats |
