I think that this hitbot is a bit of a joke - as you will notice if you look at its sales page, it claims that it doesn't need proxies..

Now, if you know the internet at all, you'll know that the one thing that can't easily be spoofed is IP address - yes, it CAN be spoofed, but it's a fuck of a lot harder than you'd think, and no hitbot is going to do it automatically.

So, if this thing truly doesn't use proxies, then it's a threat to only the stupid.

yeah ive been thinking about how this would work since this was first posted.... the software claims to support cookies but if the ip is forged how does the packets get returned to the originating ip so it can store/retrieve the cookie info... maybe its possible...

i do know how to spoof packets but for basic stuff like checking for open ports. the thing is with tcp/ip is that you have the 3 way handsake and allot of other things have to taken into consideration, like guessing the seqeunce numbers and so on.

It is possible to spoof unique hits that are productive without the use of proxies, but this is due to bad programming in one of the scripts that guys rave about over here. I've tested it and and all i have to say is that we are not as safe as we think we are. I have not hitbotted anyone and will never. cheaters will be caught, maybe we should start a anti-cheater movement where we sniff these guys out.

I'm amazed that people cheat... I mean... We're all in this to make money. I'm a full timer and I have to pay my rent every month, get something to eat, ect. Cheating people doesn't only hurt for 5 minutes... They can put people out of business and leave them with a hugh loan in the bank. That's sad!

those non proxy hitbots are a prick to catch, but that RH one likes clicking on invisable links ;)

Perhaps you could explain just how it is hard to catch when it has only one IP? As I've said, good luck spoofing an IP, it's not the easiest thing in the world.. When I see one IP that's clicked a shitload of times, I see a hitbot.. So how could this one be hard to detect? Fill us in.

Quite true, I have seen this myself. I just wanted to see the answer from the guy who found it. :)

The shitty thing about logging ip's is that you have to log all ip's, so you have to run through a file or database a couple of hundred thousand times a day... not very server friendly one would assume. :)

It's not because it's "hard" - I meant that it's hard for a hacker to do it. It's pretty much impossible for a script to do it on any kind of scale, as there's all sorts of things involved. It's not as simple as just changing a field in the packet.

I think i do get it and it would be stupid for somebody that intellegent to waste their time on a dumbass hitbot, while they could spoof any server in the world.

hi everyone, so far only proxy could do this, but I tough of something wich really bothers me. What if the hitbot got propagated like an online virus... by checking your mail or entering a site using activex or something to auto-install it.

it would then use the infected computer IP to generate fake hits!

I'm sure thats possible and is already being done and it scares the shit out of me!
