how many vention virgins are there here?

I know a lot of you dont see the need to go to conventions either from the standpoint you would like to remain anonymous or some of you do enough buisness over the net and really have no need to attend any of the offline events. Personally I have learned so much in the last couple years by attending events and hearing seminars and speeches of those who are "major players" so how many of you are vention virgins?

Sly_RJ 10-15-2002 11:54 AM

I need my cherry popped.

DjSap 10-15-2002 11:56 AM

me...if i would live in the states then i would propably go to convetions often, but now it seems too far away...

thought about going to the germany convention this month but im going to barcelona instead...

As far as the adult industry is concerned, I am virgin, but I was a vention stalwart when I worked for MM.

I am. It seems that it would mainly benefit those who have programs to promote. I hear it's good to go network but unless you are running Yahoo or Google, I'm not sure how networking is going to help me. Not like you are going to go in, shake a few hands and get top and permanent listings on the AVS sites from now on.

Maybe I am missing something. I'm still looking to be enlightened. :)

I will go one day just for the fun though.

salsbury 10-15-2002 12:13 PM

i've never gone to a convention. i'd probably get beat up for my views here. ;) but seriously, i don't see the advantage. i guess i'd go if i was going to do the 'buy a round for BP4L' thing, but i'd have to learn of the benefits of that beforehand.

well there are 3 very important things u must ask yourself before going to conventions.

1) what is my purpose of being here??
2) What can I offer other people besides a couple of nice words?
3) Do I have any type of communication skills in real life besides typing "lol"?

i think that kinda ties into number one of making your purpose. I actually had a list in Florida of key people that I wanted to speak to and I pretty much accomplished that and then some.Definitely 2k well spent

I have had top links at various places just b/c I chatted with the person before and they knew me. Not in AVSes, but on linklists and such.

never been to one myself.... don't see a need to go to one now.

I got partying-like-a-coked-up-monkey outta my system in my twenties, so the party aspect has little to no value for me. I don't like to gamble, so that's out. I've been to Vegas countless times, so there's nothing there I feel I desperately need to see. So..... what's left? "Networking"? I can do that from the comfort of my home.

Have fun guys..... I'll continue sitting the conventions out. :glugglug

I can totally see that. I would probably give people better listings if they approached me also. And fuck, sometimes I get better listings just because I sent an email or message saying hey.

Cool, I do linksites also. You know Sleazy Dream keeps all the big rollin' tgp owners all to himself though. You would have to be Ronald McDonald himself (j/k) to get past the moat and alligators to meet them.

I think #4 outweighs all other considerations. Moreover, I don't think other webmasters would really let you in on their "secret formulas" for spectacular conversion rates and/or marketing outlets that still convert.

I'm not knocking conventions, I'm sure they are a great way to just relax and meet people in the biz. But in terms of profit, at least for those in my situation [2 years and still learning/expanding], the question posed by re profitability outweighs other considerations. As I've automated my business, I'm spending 60% of my time reading boards for trends/articles for tips and 40% actual production.

Well I can definitely say that some of my accomplishments were meeting various people over the years who I have done buisness with but never sat down. The FEB crew and Boss Hawg were a load to hang with. We sat down chatted up discussed traffic(amond the hundreds of pretty ladies walking by) but many sponsors will be willing to give you tips on their product just by chatting for a few minutes. R3K sat down with me and we talked about the hosting game(which I had no fuckin slue about) and explained tons of cool shit. Mike and the Soulcash crew told me ways I could convert better with their product and now my rates are looking pretty damn good

We as webmasters are the ones who keep this industry powered on pussy. We are the grunts pushing sites and building traffic to make money for others and ourselves when we own paysites. Never ever underestimate the power of networking...people remember faces and conversations and sometimes will go the extra mile for you and others whoa re serious about making money

pimplink I think you hit on a very important factor into all of this. A lot of people simply cant afford to leave their computer for a few days or they will get behind. There are some of us who make this a fulltime living( like I do now) or those who do this to earm extra money on top of holding down a fulltime job. SOme people just cant spend the money to attend one of these things and then not make any money. With any convention have a plan and stick to it.This buisness is built on the relationships we make either online,on the phone,or in person. I can honetly say I remember the people I met offline will stick out more than those I chat with on ICQ ( no offense all my ICQ folks)

here's my take on the convention thing....

I can appreciate that alot of people have a really great time at them... and I don't wanna take that away, but is it really worth $2k to $5k or whatever it runs now, just to walk around talking to a few people about stuff you could just as easily talk about across the Net? I can think of much better ways to spend several thousands of dollars. Isn't the majority of it just bs schmoozing anyway?

That's what I'm talking about. Some hard figures. Tangible return on your investment. For the program owners, probably so or they wouldn't keep doing it, but... for the majority ??

I love it when the "educated" people rip on grammar and spelling.

You will come back with " I have degree in whatever, school for x many years, hada hada hada"

And yet you are on a chat board called Go Fuck Yourself

Ironic, AINT IT?

I agree.

I wouldn't mind attending one though, just to get the experience of it. Maybe spend a night with Jenna, and get to shoot the shit with the hedgehog, shake hands with Lens and a few others I've come to know online.

And of course there's gambling. I don't do it often these days, but when I do I like to push it hard. heh heh

But yeah, I seem to do okay just networking from home. So what I'm saying here is I'm still cherry.

amp I agree with you 100% but then again there is always this question. What place do I have in this industry? Im sure a designer of your caliber if you were to go to a convention would have made your money back in one project. Many many people make their living by the valuable connections they make at these conventions. One word I have always lived by is you have to spend money to make money.Sure there are parties and the such but the vibe that I got was always buisness first even while getting a lap dance(thanks Blackkitty.com crew).

I also have no need to see content parties and whatnot, all the other wild stuff that goes on there. What if in the middle of the convention some guy starts getting a bj or something? I swear I saw pics of that happening somewhere. I would prolly be scared

I also think that men would be disrespectful towards me or accidentally mistake me as content... I already have a bad attitude sometimes and I can't handle being harassed or ogled whatever... I get irritated and no I don't think its flattering. So even tho AWE in Los Angeles is pretty close to me, I won't be going because all of those factors. Sly RJ,

How am I on the wrong planet? Is anything bout what I said untrue? What is your problem? Everything I said is true, it may not be what you like to hear, but it's true.

How am I in the wrong industry? Just because I don't want to see a bunch of naked whores means i'm in the wrong biz? Just because I sell porn over the net does not mean I have to like to
be in that kind of an atmosphere.

The part about you having a bad attitude is extremely true.

What exactly do you do anyway? I was always under the assumption that you built porn sites. Do you not? I swear I saw one of your sites listed at Bomis, if not, someone else must be using phogirl69.

I don't understand how you can build porn sites, yet you cringe at the thought of seeing other women naked or some guy getting his dick sucked.

Please explain, I'm very interested.

Whats to explain? I do primarily gay sites right now.

Does that mean I want to go into a gay club, and watch 2 guys fucking then ending in a facial cumshot?

FUCK NO.

Your tone is all wrong.

phogirl69 10-15-2002 02:05 PM

Yeah , I have some Bomis rings I use to feed my sites so yeah they are mine. Anyways, umm... I just think of sex as a product, but I sell it over the net so I don't think it's as bad as like really doing it in person you know? I just promote affiliate programs, so I just think of it as advertising and pushing as many surfers as I can to sponsors... There's nothing wrong with a guy getting his little weenie sucked, but do I actually have to witness it in person????

Nothing wrong with naked whores either, but doesn't mean I wanna have them doing it in front of my face either.
