I have a major dilemma here. What to do with a CAT! Meow. PICS - FOR REAL! :(
 

Ok, so this morning I wake up to the most horrendous crying I have ever heard. Here is the dilemma. I LIVE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. 14 feet up! How the hell did a cat get on my balcony. The little guy has a collar mark from where he either lost it or some asshole has removed it and kicked him to the curb. I have already gone around and asked all my neighbors if he belongs to any of them. Nothing. The only other option is for me to turn him in and hope he doesn't get lethal injection at the pound. I am going to put up signs at the laundry and on all the neighbors doors. For now I am going to keep him and go buy some things to make him feel at home until his owner claims him or I give up on looking for them.

How does a cat get on the second floor balcony with NO FRONT CLAWS?

I may have to keep him. He is the friendliest cat ever. He's already claimed one of the leather sofas and is sound asleep as I write this.

I think I will name him DANTE.

What should I do? Seriously?

What should you do? First thing is buy a better camera, those are some out of focus pics, man! Put some 'cat found' pics up at the local supermarket too if there is one close and keep looking for his owner. If no one claims him, you would be a good guy to give him a home.

I have a great recipe, but you would probably need one more at least.

yah man. it's the weirdest thing. how the hell does a cat with no claws get 14 feet up on a second floor balcony? its just not possible unless some asshole threw him up there on purpose. there are no stores anywhere near. i have already made signs and put them in the laundry and on all the neighbors doors in my bldg. he seems lost and lonely and like he wants to go home. keeps waking up and pacing all over my house. i hope someone comes looking for him.

Hey, it is really tasty, I just don't think you can do it with one cat. It is best made with a litter.

Keep him! Kitty's are easy to take care of, they don't really even give a fuck if you are around or not. He will turn into your best little buddy if you let him, but he will for sure get the juice if you take him to the pound.

And he definitely found you.

Was wondering, how did you determine that the cat has no front claws? Did someone rip them out or something?

I'd keep it.. looks like a cute cat. Just make sure it doesn't pee everywhere, etc..

he jumped onto the roof from another balcony is my guess. i've had that happen before. one of my cats used to get on the roof and go to a fence on the other side to get down or back up. check with everyone that has a balcony in your builiding first and you may find the owner.

This person has a point. Make sure you ask around and post pics in in the *adjacent* buildings, next to your building in case he jumped somehow from one roof or terrace to another.

Black & white cats are my favorite. Definitely put up a few signs in your neighborhood, don't take him to the pound.

If nobody claims him, and you don't want him, check to see if you have any 'no kill' pet shelters in your city, and see if they have room.

You may just find that he'll grow on you though, and you won't want to give him up. They can be great pets for people that work from home, they require much less attention than dogs (usually).

Yes... you should keep him. Almost all the cats I've lived with have found me.

Is there a 3rd floor at your building? Maybe the cat came from above and fell off a balcony and landed on yours.

They can still climb without front claws. I trust he still has his rears? I have seen declawed cats (front only) climb up huge pine trees with no branches for the first 20 feet. They are pretty resourceful.

Someone is probably looking for him. Put up more notices. If you dont hear anything enjoy your new cat.

If nobody claims the cat, just keep it. Be sure to have kitty litter around.

If you want a cat keep it. Be sure to leave signs up and let him out if he wants so he isnt just your prisoner.

This is such a sign. Of course put up found posters, but no one is gonna answer. He's yours for sure, and Penny is so right, cats are SO easy to take care of. With fresh litter, 2 cans of cat food, and lots of dry food and you can easily leave him alone for 5 days. Enjoy your new pal. Cats rock. And I may be crazy, but I think you should name him "The Dude" after Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski. Although Dante is good.

BTW - lots of people that get into foreclosure leave their pets behind to fend for themselves. Fucked up assholes. Saw a big story on it on ABC News.

its a no brainer. Dante has already adopted you. :) if no one claims him, i'd say he's yours. he's going to be an appreciative kitty. well, as appreciate as a cat can be.

I don't know if someone has said this yet, (did not read every reply) but take the cat to the local pound or animal control and see if the cat has a CHIP!

I believe he already posted another thread that said he found the original owner.

First thing you need to do i bring him to the local SPCA and get the cat scanned for microchips... if they have one implanted, it will give them the owner and you can return the cat to them. Second thing you should do, is make sure they are fully vaccinated.

i still cant get used to the fact that declawing is accepted in some countries... it's a form of animal cruelty in my opinion.

Definitely keep him around -- get him some catnip, make the couch his "spot," and post FOUND CAT signs in your building and on nearby lamp posts. If you don't hear from anyone in a week, consider Dante your new best friend.

He likely either jumped from another balcony (as others have guessed) or he may have hopped from the ground level from balcony to balcony and ended up in yours. He looks really sweet. :)

For a second I thought I was gonna be stuck with him. He was a cool cat though, I wouldn't have cared.

I still have no freaking idea how he got on a second story balcony with no front claws. Unless some asshole punk kid threw him up there to be funny.
