$15-20,000.00+ Of Design Work in 2008

and...

I can't find a solid, dependable, reasonable, NDA, long term programmer who can commit to deadlines for a project, much less a dozen, and some lasting 2-3 years.

Recently, I get a lot of small fries who haven't handled anything over a few hundred bucks. Also some who have experience, but poor feedback or ratings. Normally the small fries are fine, but not in the bigger projects.

Very frustrating.

When did you get degreened? :Oh crap

Oh and Feel for you on the designer thing. Tis tough.

L-Pink 04-03-2008 09:14 AM

Expensive, sometimes take a number to start, but finishes on time with good product.

Maybe you just not yet encounter with someone who will actually pass your taste plus someone you can really depend on. Sometimes or most of the time you really need to spend more money to achieve what you need/want.

Pulsebucks 04-03-2008 09:21 AM

We can recommend this guy: http://outlinezero.net/

So far he has done 5 paysites for us, honest, always on time, we even sent money in advance and had no problems. Give him a try he just might be suitable for your projects.:2 cents:

tranza 04-03-2008 09:24 AM

It's very hard to find nice programmers nowadays.

candyflip 04-03-2008 09:25 AM

You say designer but are looking for programmer. Maybe that's your problem :winkwink:

dont be a cheap skate. all the good programmers i know wouldnt touch a project under a few G's.

good code costs good money.

I have no issues with paying a little more to have a designer who's....

1. On time with realistic due dates. (bigger projects 60-90 days)
2. Checks in weekly, and can show progress.
3. Agrees to benchmarks.
4. NDA

After being ripped off my AM-Jeff from Rage Cash, among a few others. I refuse to put 50% down on anything again. I have the cash to pay whatever you want. But I need some food on my plate before you get paid. AM-Jeff had all the designer classics covered in "how close he was" to having it finished. Complete with the computer down, the kids, family, internet and the whole book covered.

Never again.

Maybe you didn't bother to read the subject line. $15,000-20,000.00 worth of designs on a handful - a dozen sites IS thousands.

dont let one douchebag ruin your whole experience. i would never ask someone to work entirely upfront. money first. we all know this!

If only it was that simple. :winkwink:

I've been looking over 50+ different programmer's bids on my projects, theirs portfolios. As well as previous customer reviews of their completed works all morning.

the subject is about design, yet the post is about code(ie: 'programmer') work. so maybe you should learn how to type and not confuse people. also try to pick one subject and stay on it for ease in understanding by the reader.

i do in fact know how to read but thanks for caring though.

so which is it smartass, you looking for a programmer or a designer?

lol... Yeah. I am sure that's it.

When a programmer reads about the whole project, what's needed in programming, the server set up, etc. Then I am sure they know what I am talking about. Especially from their responses.

I am posting the req's on freelancer sites. Not message boards.

Just venting my frustration here. I've tried the ole GFY in the past, and burned more than half the time. Even paying top dollar, with highly recommended folks.

I will give kudos to Machine Gun Kelly. He is one who does decent work. :thumbsup

So you paid out over 20K in design for 2008? So far?

Is that graphic design or web programming both?
What did you get?

Ya hard as hell to find good programmers these days. :(
MGK is great but I'm pretty he's not a programmer but a designer.

fluffygrrl 04-03-2008 04:33 PM

When you say programmer, do you mean php/html or do you mean linux guts and gore sort of programmer ?

Amen brother.

Still have another 50-100 I have to sort through tomorrow who've put in bids on the various projects. Most can be immediately eliminated. But with many, you have to look at their testimonials, previous works, log into their demos, etc. etc.

Depends on which of the projects I am accepting bids on. Some are more programming. Some are design. Some are a combo.

fluffygrrl 04-03-2008 05:00 PM

Mkay, I got a couple of guys that have been doing good things for me, and they make a good team. Hit me up, we can prolly arrange something. Nothing to lose.

Thank you delicious tootsies. It's worth a shot.

I have been doing nothing except checking out designers/programmers most of this week. Today was brutal. Still have another day or two of going through them, then narrowing the field.

I think I see your problem. Good programmers are seldomly good designers, good designers are almost never programmers. If you find one that's both expect to pay in the $80+/h range.

Why not find a separate designer and a separate programmer?

If you are looking for programmer who can meet your deadline then you must contact primeoutsourcing .com :):):)

V_RocKs 04-04-2008 04:31 AM

All programmers are flaky to some degree.

A good programmer sees the entire world as a big program. You want to code efficiently and create functions, objects, etc and reuse that code throughout.

And that means they also want to get money without working too hard for it.
