A man walks into a restaurant and orders Albatross. He takes one bite of it and dies moments later.

The first person to post EXACTLY why the man died (not just the cause of death, but the reason for the cause of death) wins. The prize is bragging rights and $0 cash.

Rules:
1. If you've heard this before, don't play.
2. No trying to find the answer on the internet. That's cheating. Use your brain only. And for the record, I looked for it and the version of this riddle I am finding is completely different than the version I heard years ago, so you'd be wrong anyway. But still - no looking.

a) Did he die as a direct result of eating the fucking bird? ie food poisoning, allergy etc
b) Did he take his own life?

Nope. It was suicide. He pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.

He ordered asparagus they brought him albratross (the two things look so similar) he ate it realised what he had eaten and because he worked for PETA he shot himself...

The man is a cook on a boat? The restaurant is on the boat..he has just eaten albatross which has obviously been killed hence all on the boat will die...if it is this answer I will be pissed because I aked if it had antyhing to do with the Ancient Mariner....ok I know htis is not the answer...

If the answer you found has anything at all to do with the guy's wife, it is incorrect (well, it's a different version anyway).

Ooooh... I've heard this one before.... and gotten lots of people on it... however, my version it was a seagul... makes more sense.

3. just himself (i.e., something act he committed).

4. Did he use a weapon to kill himself (knife or gun)?
5. Did he use some other method such as poision?.

That could be a hint.... but actually an albatros makes more sense.

Since I am such a nice guy, here are THREE more hints for you:

1. The guy is an American.
2. He is single.
3. He used to be in the Navy.

You know that he killed himself after ordering Albatross in a restaurant and taking one bite of it. I also mentioned that he used to be a cook, but that probably isn't much help.
