Yup, $100k sales per month, net profit $80k, ~1 million a year. Was a good deal for the buyer.

L-Pink 01-15-2008 08:16 PM

That's insane a multiple of .75 years?

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 01-15-2008 08:17 PM

the traffic and thus revenue was falling fast from the look of the alexa stats..

gleem 01-15-2008 08:22 PM

another telling chart:

KingpinMedia 01-15-2008 08:25 PM

as an employee for 3 years it's easy to understand what happened. I have been predicting this downfall for more than a year.

KingpinMedia 01-15-2008 08:27 PM

oh, and we all know that ALEXA can be iffy, but in this situation it is more than accurate - in fact might have been a bit generous.

lack of knowledge on how to run websites is one. Instead of working on increasing traffic and keeping the sites up to date they spent all their time trying to sell ads and working on other projects. And you can't keep selling ads/traffic if your traffic is decreasing.

however if a site is doing 80k profit a month it just doesn't make sense to sell it for 550k, IMO.

yea I know they could have sold for at least a million at least if not way more. wow this is really the most shocking news I have ever heard on the net. I thought those guys were some of the smartest dudes around, what happened?

pip 01-15-2008 09:13 PM

550k is peanuts to what its worth

SleazyDream 01-15-2008 09:16 PM

wow - that's CHEAP for that site

PR_Sebas 01-15-2008 09:18 PM

they saw that the site was in decline... it was alot of work to update those sites everyday with new stuff and try to work on new projects... at least thats what i read on another board

not much more than that. The sites are a huge mess. Traffic has obviously dropped a ton over the last year. If they thought it was worth more than that, then they would have shopped it around. However, if the sites would have sold separately they might have made more money, but all the sites are intertwined in one massive network, which really makes it a headache to operate.

Also Marc talked with my good friend who still works for him (well, who knows now) and Marc said that they were just putting it up for auction to see what it was worth, and then an hour later, sold it.

MarcWomack 01-15-2008 09:19 PM

Yup, it was a steal. We just wanted to move it so we could move on. We really want to concentrate on our www.MadisonAvenue.com project. We think it's got more long term potential and frankly we enjoy working on it more. We very soft launched it a few months ago and we're already doing over 2.5 BILLION ad impressions a month and selling over 2.5 MILLION ad clicks a month.

We just prefer working on a world-class, free, web-based ad rotation & revenue maximization tool with optional network ad sales functionality. Well, we prefer that to posting pix of drunk frat boys passed out with magic marker drawings on their foreheads. Guess we've grown up a bit!

So we'll still be around, we'll still be a great source of traffic but now we can help with adult and non adult traffic!

So any Publishers who need an AMAZING ad rotation tool that's absolutely free that enables them to make more money off their traffic whether it's optimizing traffic you're sending out on an affiliate basis, selling it yourself on a CPC, CPM, time basis, or helping you sell it in our network, www.MadisonAvenue.com is your solution!

And any Advertisers looking for a QUALITY network of traffic, where prices are set based on the PERFORMANCE of the traffic sending to affiliate programs, where you can TRULY control your ad campaign through an online control panel, where you want REAL customer service, www.MadisonAvenue.com is your solution!

well from this list, it looks like the SSN sites were the leading sites you were using to sell traffic through MadAve. If the new owners don't want to use MadAve, then it looks like you have a very small handful of websites to sell ads to. Unless a miracle happens and you guys really take off in the next few months, like you were saying you were going to do months ago, I wonder where you guys will land.

Mike your goal in life since we shit-canned you has been to cause drama. I'm sorry bro but ignoring you has made my life a better place. We'll be fine. Now that I can concentrate solely on MadAv I'll be able to rapidly ramp up the number of publishers we've got.

Not that there's any chance you will take this advice but I really suggest you spend your energies on building your own sites, your own business, your own LIFE. Every minute you spend sending us stupid emails like this "he let you work for HIM as long as YOU could benefit HIM" to our staff is a waste of your time and energy.

JFK 01-15-2008 09:35 PM

you call it shit-canned, but we all know the reason I was fired is because of money. You guys simply couldn't afford to keep paying me what you were, when you could get someone else to do it for way less. That has been proven after you had to sell your network today for a measly 550k, after telling me a year ago that steakandcheese.com was worth 3 million itself.

Rick even emailed me and told me that the reason you guys were late with my severance checks is because you guys were having money problems.

Shall I go on?

Thx man, we're pretty stoked about it. Of course we would have liked to make more but moving forward was more important than the final sales price. We're excited to be moving forward with only one goal / one business / one task before us.

I personally have been run ragged the past year trying to run one aging business and build a whole new one. Heh, only so much one man can do. So I'm in a better place now and I hope to see you in Costa to buy you a free beer!

Upward and onward!!!! CONGRATS!!

warlock5 01-15-2008 09:42 PM

This is a good lesson as to why you should sell a site (or business) into growth.

FreeHugeMovies 01-15-2008 09:49 PM

Why on earth you wouldn't let everyone know before Vegas is beyond me. You just threw away several thousands of dollars. Probably half a mill if not more.

chodadog 01-15-2008 09:52 PM

Huge surprise. Extremely surprised by the amount the site sold for.

Or not get raped in an auction.

Drake 01-15-2008 09:56 PM

Congrats on the sale. If I'm not mistaken Rick is a wealthy man anyway and CJ was always just a side project for him.

pip 01-15-2008 09:58 PM

Is this going to be another failed project like dollars?

That was funny

fuzebox 01-15-2008 09:58 PM

So who was the buyer? I was in the room but I didn't recognize him, and he wasn't wearing a badge.

Spitting out information you may, or may not have heard....& may or may not be true is kind of frowned upon in this industry.

Why don't you just throw up some trade secrets along with everything else & call it a day.

Rat bitch.
