Dakar Rally cancelled.....first time in its 30 year history

wtf is the dakar rally? why was it cancelled. and why is this important to us?

The Dakar Rally is the toughest Rally on earth.....cars, bikes, trucks race from Lissabon through Africa
to the final destination in Dakar.....it's the mother of all challenges I guess


It was cancelled because of terrorist threats in Mauritania there were 9 stages
in the Dakar Rally through Mauritania....it's not important to us.....except that
there's people who like the Dakar Rally, me being 1 of them.......

And I guess it's a bad thing whenever terrorist get their way

dunno why they couldn't just cancel the mauritania step - in the past, stages have been cancelled without affected the overall race

It's because they didn't organise it properly. It'll be back next year though. Hopefully. I liked it,.

terrorist threats? fuck em - do it anyone...now they just showedc the terrorist they can make impact... if they cancel this year what will guarantee it will race next year ? all the terrorists need to do is threaten again....

They did a little more than just threat. just before the race four french nationals where assasinated on the side of the road by armed man.

But... if you let them stop the Dakkar rally, the terrorists win!

Sucks it was cancelled :( I always enjoy watching it.

This is not a state sponsored event like the Olympics. There is no army to ensure things go smoothly.

If local authorities can't ensure the safety of participants and staff the Dakar organizers have no option but to cancel.

It was well organized, it's the frenchies who chickened out at the last moment.

Wow, that's amazing. I'm going to miss watching it this year.
