start talking SEO and their eyes will usually glaze over within two minutes, but don't stop. Keep talking until they excuse themselves and you will never be bothered again.

I say Internet Marketing and when they ask more I talk about my mainstream projects, which is more than 60% of my online sites nowadays anyway. A few, including my parents, know that I also promote Adult sites....they didn't approve at first but as long as Im not in the videos I promote I think they can put up with it.

Used to know this guy who would bash me for what I did to my other friends but as soon as the guy needed $4k to help pay off some debt guess who he came running to.

Internet marketing doesn't work, they will ask "what products do you market"?

I have two aunts and two uncles who are all computer science majors and have been working as computer programmers for 10+ years. They aren't stupid... It's hard to bullshit them.

All my friends know, my parents "kinda" know and anyone who ask's at a party or something will hear about Internet marketing focusing on SEO and organic link-building till their ears fall off ^^

I have sites that dont do much but it gives them something to play with if they ask more questions.

I've done this to gf's fathers. The car salesman, and countless others. Within 30 seconds they are lost, and in 2 minutes they either 'have to make a call' or some other excuse.

Yes, I'm smarter than that but internet savvy people pry a lot. Once someone who majored in comp sci asked me what I did. I said "internet marketing", and then they started asking me stuff like : "Where do you get your traffic from", what domains do you own etc

i tell them i nothing, which is close enough to the truth.

interweb stuff you won't understand....

1. Get a cheap virtual host account in a seperate place than the adult stuff.
2. Register mainstream domains on seperate registrar too.
3. Create mainstream projects that have adsense/yahoo or other type ppc feeds/ads.

I then say I do "internet marketing & advertising". You can also add in "Google is one of your clients" for effect. You are using Google Adsense after all for income. Throw in some amazon.com, ebay and other popular names.

As far as where you get your traffic from...just keep it vague and say you get traffic from lots of places, search engines etc.

I've never had a problem throwing people off the trail when I needed too and yet still making it sound like I'm doing well. Luckily I don't have many people I need to hide this from.

I make my living by shooting content for my website which is ADP Models.com. (see the sig). This is my only job and has been for the last three years. I have also worked for several adult video companies acting in adult videos but the website is my main source of income.

Great idea. I think I have in some way started doing something similar. I will keep this in mind.

But what about the damage that has already been done? Can anything be done about that? Unfortunately I was really stupid when I first started. I got overexcited that I was making money online and told family members that I was promoting a webcam site.

I just say I am a programmer. When they figure out that they won't understand exactly what it is that I do, the questions usually stop.
