Buying a new pc should I get Vista or XP?
I am buying a new high end gaming PC and I have the option of XP or vista.
Which should I go with? Have any of the problems I have heard about with vista in the past been fixed? |
XP! No doubt!
xp the whole way...i have not had a good experience with vista
xp.......
XP... you can run the Vista Transformation Pack if you want it to have that new Aero Glass look.
I have vista and have not really had any issues so far. I do NOT play games online though so...
Vista is pretty, but it sucks so far. XP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
i would say stick with Xp.
Stick with XP for now.
I've been using Vista on my laptop - pretty rigorously - for the last couple months or so, and honestly, I don't see what are the fuss is about... I think it's a great OS.
That said, I haven't been gaming on it... I reserve that for my Desktop, and it's still running XP. |
Only XP, no fucking vista
For gamimg i'd stick with XP for now. Why risk it with Vista...
Gaming? XP all the way...
Not gaming? Vista wins hands down... |
XP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vista is the worst OS... |
I'm running Vista on my newely built desktop. I have 4 gigs of ram so that helps out a lot. So far no problems.
OS X Leopard :D
XP for sure.
In addition to the other problems with Vista, there is also too much DRM crap. In about a year, it's likely Vista will be upto SP2, that's the time to maybe consider it ... until then let the lemmings have their fun with Vista. It's also very telling that new PCs are still being sold with XP even though Vista has been out for so long - that alone should be warning enough to avoid it - again, my view is, stick with XP. On a related note, you mention gaming - get a console like the XBox360, PS3, etc for that purpose - the game systems out now are practically like PCs with many have built-in browser, internet, etc ... and yet cost much less compared to what a PC with similar graphical capability would cost. xp.. dont ask stupid questions
Go with XP!!
Vista.. don't risk it. |
You will have a SHITTY time with VISTA....
There are hundreds of bugs with Vista graphics drivers. |
XP, if you even have a choice. Most PC's are packaged with vista now.
stay with XP

I've got a few comps and my Vista laptop is working fine, no problems here yet
ubuntu ...
XP, I'd prefer not to do experiments if I am happy.
go apple + os x
xp all the way
I like Vista, never had a problem with it. I play C&C3 and Starcraft every now and then without problems.
xp all the way
I bought a new one with Vista..runs pretty stable for me
xp is the best !
some people do not like change, Vista is awesome, It has lots of features that I use all the time and very simple. I have it on 2 of my comps and XP on the old
No issues with Vista so far on my laptop.

XP. Although in a year's time I'd say Vista since it's the only OS that has DirectX10 on it, and more and more games are going to take advantage of that baby, as well as vid cards.

Good luck with your OS search, you are not going to get a clear answer. |
I've been using Vista for a while now as I got it on my new system. I have to say I'm surprised it works so well. So far I havent had any applications acting strange or anything, as most good ones have already been updated to be compatible with Vista.
I'd go for Vista. You can always install your old XP later if you don't like it. But IMO you have to see for yourself. |
XP....I'm having issues with Vista and firefox being compatable.
I think directx games run a bit better on vista, but the opengl blows .. so it depends on the game
xp until sp2 comes out.
Nothing but XP.. I've been using it for 2 years and don't have any problem
Well I didnt have a choice, the owner just brought home a Vista unit. (nice one though) and said heres the new laptop make it work. So I got to it.
At first it was crap OMFG... but then after doing some tweaks it started coming around. THEN I simply googled vista problems and cures and bingo found a few sites that had over 50 tips to make it run better faster cleaner. Found out the CPU comes default set to only 50% capability. That and I decreased all that gloss shit & bling and bingo. Runs like a champ now. --- Cept for a bug in dreamweaver (my properites box remains stuck at the bottom of the screen-any help on that one?) it runs flawless. I use it to render heavy 3D custom images and avi movies. and it churns them out maybe 3 times faster than the XP unit does. In fact I tested it and made the same image on both units and then set them to render at the same time -drag race style and let em rip. Vista blew its doors off. So I'm 95 % happy. Look for tips for your folder views and file arrangments and your looking at a faster better XP kinda. Oh... and turn off UAC if your not installing any programs. trust me you'll like it much better. But turn off UAC with care. YMMV |
Hmm this all kinda reminded me to go gleam all the updates I can for the XP unit I'm on right now. OH, MS has a few updates for VISTA already that seemed to help as well. In the meantime I'm using both at once.
OH I DID have a problem with the vista unit seeing that the XP unit had the same software installed whenever the wireless was on (XP) and would auto quit the app saying a dupe was being used and I was to buy another license if I wanted to run the app on the new vista unit. It wasn't until I tested switching off the wireless on the XP did the warnings and faults disappear on the vista. This speaks loudy of WTF is my Vista unit looking for that I don't know about, and how did it do that? |
I'm sticking with XP until Vista's backwards compatibility issues are all worked out.
I would get vista, you will be forced to upgrade to it anyway in a few years when xp will no longer be supported...
Vista is the way to go since it's a gaming system since DirectX 10 is something that you can only get with Vista. Right now there's a lot of new games that are coming out that take advantage of DirectX 10, so definately go Vista.
The people that are yelling out XP are those that don't understand gaming needs for a true gaming system :) I myself run Vista and I've never had any problems with it, it's a great system. |

definitely XP.. Some programs still won´t even run in Vista, so u got to do upgrading and all this crap takes time...
I'm curious as to how many people who have actually taken the time to get set up with vista. Sure, there are a few annoyances, but overall it feels more solid than XP, runs smoother too in my opinion.
Memory management in Vista is great, definitely an improvement on XP. Programs launch faster and feel more responsive. Drivers for poorly supported products such as old printers will probably cause you problems. But everything else seems to work fine. If OS X isn't an option, I'd recommend it. |
