Memory management in Vista is great, definitely an improvement on XP. Programs launch faster and feel more responsive.

Drivers for poorly supported products such as old printers will probably cause you problems. But everything else seems to work fine.

If OS X isn't an option, I'd recommend it.

I have to agree 100% !

When installing XP the installation will ask at the very beginning for system drivers... So burn your sata and other required drivers to a cd and when prompted in the first few screens at setup then include them...

Read the first few screens carefully !

Hope this helps you out :)

My biggest problem with Vista is old program compatability and IPV6. Other then that its ok. Oh ya lots of Ram memory. Oh fuck it stick with XP.

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 11-21-2007 12:09 PM

There is no problem with IPV6 !

Be default EZRhino Vista's firewall is set as not to allow ping and you need to go into the firewall rules as to allow for certain protocols to have access to your system...

XP - Vista sucks balls!

alby_persignup 11-21-2007 12:18 PM

xp all the way! ;)

latinasojourn 11-21-2007 01:06 PM

i run some apps that need to be working 24/7 and have always crashed high end XP machines.

but the same apps running on core2duo vista ultimate, with 2gb ram run for days unattended.

so for some applications vista is seems clearly superior.

(however it might be the core2duo, i'm not a nerd so don't know)

beta-tester 11-21-2007 01:15 PM

if u go with multi core cpu then vista all the way.....especially with latest patches vista rocks these days, still not perfect but can't compete with xp anymore!

Snake Doctor 11-21-2007 01:20 PM

Does XP work with the new generation of processors though?

That would be a big reason to suck it up and live with Vista if XP doesn't support the dual or quad core processors, or over X GB of RAM etc.

I have a number of video related apps that don't necessarily work with Vista. I am pretty happy with XP, here, and not looking forward to upgrading my seven workstations any time soon.

bobby666 11-23-2007 11:14 AM

xp and xp and xp

s9ann0 11-23-2007 11:25 AM

My new laptop came with Vista and it went bad after a few weeks so I put XP on it, its bullshit free now.

My mum bought one and I tried to format it and install XP off the bat but it wasn't possible.

The reason was it had a SATA drive (laptop drives over 120gb) and my version of XP (it was media center 2005) doesn't have SATA support on the install program

So watch out for that if you are buying a machine you want to put XP on you can get it up on SATA but you need to load the SATA drivers from floppy and its going to be a real headache.

kowalsky 11-23-2007 11:32 AM

I have been using Vista for 5 months, no problem since then. XP is a good OS too, but if you are going to change to Vista in future (because you must), then it will be better to start using it now I think.
