My City Is Up In Flames :-( Yes, San Diego

i have friends who have lost their homes, friends retired parents who lost their beautiful homes they spent their whole life working so hard for, and poof. up in smoke. this has all made me very sad, especially since i heard the news as i was driving my U-Haul truck from San Francisco to San Diego to move into my new place only to find that it's not there anymore.

please understand if i am not readily available via ICQ today, but do send me an email if you have any questions.

please keep all of the 300,000 mandatory evacuees in your mind, along with the rest of the people that they're just recommending evacuate. schools are closed today and the mayor is urging everyone to stay home.

if hell is a sad, gut-wrenching place filled with people who lost everything they had for no reason, then yes. it probably is just like hell.

Meeper 10-23-2007 10:21 AM

I'm very sorry for your loss, and you're in my prayers along with all the other evacuees.

OG LennyT 10-23-2007 10:24 AM

Seems like yesterday you lived in Snottsdale, AZ... unfortunate what is happening in SoCal. :(

Miguel T 10-23-2007 10:24 AM

Sorry to hear about that..

Sheri Santiago 10-23-2007 10:28 AM

Be safe Tassy!

baddog 10-23-2007 10:28 AM

Yeah, probably not the best time to move to San Diego.

Where are you holed up now? If you want to hang in the South Bay for a few, you can.

No fires here, and won't be.

RAM 10-23-2007 10:30 AM

:Oh crap

Sorry to hear that tassy... We had a couple close calls out at my grandmas place in canyon country in the last two days.. It some scary shit.. Luckily her place was saved but some up the road were not so lucky.

CarlosTheGaucho 10-23-2007 10:40 AM

Well that sucks, well let's hope all will be well very soon for you San Diego guys, many people I know there..

Hope noone gets burned and noone will get fucked up by an insurance company then.. I have gone through that once once my mother's shop fell down in flames couple of years ago completely and they did fucked up with her... business just went down and the total debts were paid off just recently..

alby_persignup 10-23-2007 10:43 AM

that's really really sad, good thing my sister and her family moved to Nevada before this thing happened.

Scott McD 10-23-2007 10:52 AM

The whole thing is just shocking to watch... :(

SykkBoy 10-23-2007 10:56 AM

I was going to make a smart ass comment about you coming out Vegas, but figured I'd just offer up some thoughts and prayers to you and others who've lost everything in this fire. It will be even more tragic if they really are able to prove it was arson that started it all...

They don't usually call a fire arson without having a good reason. You can be pretty sure it was arson.

PornPilot 10-23-2007 11:00 AM

Good Luck!

jesse_adultdatingdollars 10-23-2007 11:26 AM

Actually the fire was started by a downed electrical pole.

At least the first fire was.

To be honest, the only one I heard arson mentioned with is the Irvine fire. But I have not turned the tv on today.

pornguy 10-23-2007 11:58 AM

Same here about watching tv.
But the first I know for sure was a downed power line. Came down in a gust that was about 100mph.

The sparks ignited some dry brush, and the people that saw it called the fire dept. Me, I would have tried to put it out.

that's what i had read as well - that a spark ignited one fire and hopped, and now, this morning, with 1000 firefighters on each fire...there are 8 or 9 (?) now - they still only have it 10% contained. the smoke and ashes in the air are so bad i can barely breathe and i'm staying somewhere that's not in an evacuation zone. i can't imagine being in one of the "recommended" evac areas right now.

keep sending positive thoughts to the people here please!

Slick 10-24-2007 09:48 AM

I've got plans to go to San Diego in April, hopefully there's still something left :(

Brother Bilo 10-24-2007 09:52 AM

500,000 homes now? Jesus. Trying to find some kind of silver lining in this, like it's cleansing the Earth or whatever, but I can't really find anything good about everyone losing their homes.

"The 16 wind-fed wildfires have destroyed 1,500 homes and forced half a million to flee over the last four days ? the largest evacuation in the state?s history."

aw, thanks vanessa! right now i'm working on getting all of the stuff that i still have into a storage unit somewhere - they're all pretty full because of this whole situation of course so we'll see what happens, wish me luck!

L-Pink 10-26-2007 12:30 PM

The idea of being helpless when confronted by something like a massive fire is more troubling to me that what I might lose.

tony286 10-26-2007 12:48 PM

Tassy that sucks well I wish you the best of luck.

RyuLion 10-26-2007 01:21 PM

were you born and raise in San Diego also?

rob34 10-26-2007 01:42 PM

I feel for your loss, and the loss the others have as well...But isn't that what home owners insurance is for?

VeriSexy 10-26-2007 08:25 PM

can't believe what they're going through

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-27-2007 12:06 AM

It's what happens when idiot's do not respect the nature around them.
COllectively the LA and San Diego does not have the biggest and brightest minds in the USA.

I love it when Mother Nature kicks mankinds ass, especially ones so busy with thier lives flicking cigarretes out the window blabbering on there cell phones all day on the roads.

I am never surprised really about Southern California Fires.

V_RocKs 10-27-2007 02:28 AM

Crazy shit.

Madame0120 10-27-2007 07:03 AM

Boy am I ever glad my son shipped out from SD to Hawaii, just a few weeks ago. I can not imagine what it must be like, seeing everything you worked so hard for, go up in smoke.

I have kept you all in my prayers.

peterk 10-27-2007 07:26 AM

Sorry to hear that things are going bad in that area

i agree that mother nature likes to keep our asses in check, and reminds us that she exists first and foremost and without her we would have nothing. but i also agree that i am never really surprised by your lack of caring words in posts about other people's devastation. and no, i'm not talking about me. i'm talking about hundreds of thousands of people. do you really think every single person affected by this fire "deserved" it somehow? kind of sad, sort if evil.

davecummings 10-28-2007 02:55 PM

Tassy, hang in there! Life "ain't" easy sometimes, and San Diego County has been dealt a terrible hand this time:-(.

I hope you find a comfortable rental, one in a safe area (I'm in the UTC area, with lots of cement to sorta protect folks from fires), and that the hassles you're presently enduring soon turn to good things.

I've got the Sunday newspaper with the rentals section -- LMK if you need it.
