Motherfucker broke into my house yesterday...

...and I was inside when he did it! He knocked on the door, walked around the front trying to peer in the window, then came back and forced the door. At that point I'd just grabbed my camera but I hadn't switched it on. He got a nice shock when he saw me standing right behind the door he'd just forced.

I said "what the fuck are you doing", then he stepped towards me with the tire iron above his shoulder before running off. I held the door closed for about 10 sec because I didn't know if he was going to come back with his buddy in the car. By the time I went out again they were long gone.

Cops got here in about 5 mins because they were nearby investigating another "at home" burglary where the guys walked out with a TV while the kids were upstairs. Probably the same guys that did my place.

I got a good look at him but unfortunately I only saw a small portion of the car through the gap in our blinds.

The scary thing was how easily he got the door open, you wouldn't even know it had been forced unless you were looking closely for scruff or scratch marks. Turns out the aluminium frame is easily warped which means all you need to do is some minor levering before the bolt pops in and the door opens.

Three things I'm doing today-

1. Buying a CCTV camera and setting up one of my home server boxes to record when someone moves into an "area of interest" in the frame.

2. Buying a fake alarm box.

3. Buying a baseball bat.

A deadlock was installed last night and the frame will be strengthened today.

If it happens again I think I'll give the camera a miss, I was thinking logically rather than of my own personal safety.

Did he look like this?

MikeVega 10-02-2007 04:57 PM

Definitely... that tends to work well against a tire iron

I'll also make up a sign to that effect:

You need anti-burglary expert advice from a Detroit MI resident :winkwink:

Brother Bilo 10-02-2007 05:09 PM

If you were behind the door, thats when a good push kick does the trick. Sneak attack style. A good kick in the chest is always works on unwanted people up in your mix.

If it ever happens again then I'm going to be yelling "what the fuck, get down here Mike and Joe <or whatever names>, some cunt is trying to get in" on the other side of the door loooong before it opens. With my bat in hand just in case.

I got told to buy a glove as well so that if anyone ever asks I can say I play baseball. :winkwink:

Didn't hear a peep out him yesterday when the guy was breaking in. :1orglaugh

Yeah that shit (w the dogs) happens a lot...... I concur with jalamy.... a shotgun works well against tire irons .... if a shot gun is illegal then get yourself a bbgun at least dammit!....... u gotta think on your family's safety first and then on formalities .... it'd be sad to hear that your CCTV camera caught your family being killed by those bastards ........

If a guy invades your home and threatens your safety ... you should have the god-given right to kick his ass out of this world ....... PERIOD.

We had a deadlock installed last night, which is like an extra lock that has a bolt that reaches much deeper into the frame. We found out the frame bows between the bottom and top so at the most important point (the middle) the bolt is going into it far less than it should. This is going to be strengthened with a crossbar to bring it back in.

The deadlock is really more a visual deterrent as will be the alarm box and warning signs. If someone wants to get in for reasons other than theft then it won't really take much to get inside the house... 5-10 good kicks to the door or a rock through the front window.

Thats terrible mate, the hide of the puckers to have a go while you were in the house. Thank god you and your family came out of it safe and alright.

Things are getting bad it the large citys of Oz. The hide of the peanut the other day we saw on the news, that tryed to take a 3 year old from inside his house, and was stopped when the kids father yelled at the pucker to stop, to which he droped the kid and ran. Unbelievable.

Yes a self defense case.

That sounds like a good idea mate. Some of the laws in Oz are not the best for the homeowner when it comes to defending one's property.

As has happened before, fucker breaks in, you defend your home and family. Fucken give it to the fucker with a bat or bar or wharever. The theif ends up sueing you and taking you to court and you end up have it give this fucker something because if it.

We had a mate lived in Townsville nth qld, that had a fucker try to breakin to his house (he was at work), his dogs give it to this prick at the back of his house, the theif sued him and had his dogs put down because of the bite marks. Our mate had never meet this fucker before and the fucker had no good reason to go through a front gate with a sign on it beware of the dogs. Yet he could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was there to break in. And this fucker had form for break and enter before. Yet a judge made our friend pay court costs, hospital costs, and lost both dogs because of this prick.

Some things are just not right.

:(

Yep, I'll admit it wasn't the smartest thing to do. I grabbed the camera when I saw he was moving around outside, at that point I was a little uneasy but I didn't think it was someone trying to break in. I got preoccupied with creeping around and finding the battery, so I was back at the door just as he forced it. A few seconds later and the camera would have been turned on, taking the shot would have been better for the cops but it could have turned out worse for me...

Next time I'll make plenty of noise long before I conclude it's a friend or foe on the other side.

aaargh get a dog and a camera that uploads
unless you are a truly fierce pirate you will most likely feel sorry for the intruder and not smash him as hard as you should

he then takes your bat and sticks it in your ass

or unless you enjoy violence
then you will be ok

Three things I'm doing today-

1. Buying a CCTV camera and setting up one of my home server boxes to record when someone moves into an "area of interest" in the frame.- Good Idea

2. Buying a fake alarm box.-Bad idea...will that only alert you when there are fake burglars... You need a real system.. It's only $30.00 a mth or less.

3. Buying a baseball bat.-Bad idea... What if the perp has gun... You need a gun... I have a 25 and my husband carries a 9.

A deadlock was installed last night and the frame will be strengthened today.- Upgrade and throw and few chain locks too... Also a peep hole.

If it happens again I think I'll give the camera a miss, I was thinking logically rather than of my own personal safety.- Yes, If I wear there... I would of popped you. You don't grab the camera, you run...

Damn.. but good thing you were home

Casa Nova 10-02-2007 10:51 PM

BUmp keys can open a dead bolt. You should invest in a more expensive and bump key immune lock mechanism. It's surprising how many people go out and buy a $20 lock to secure a $300 000+ Home and expect it to work.. you get what you pay for, and most lock can be opened in 20 seconds by a bump key.

all you need to do is 1 thing, buy a pitbull. I bet they wont try to break into your place ever again.

or you could spend $5 for a beware of dog sign and then just bark when people come to the door you dont know.

You are making a lot of assumptions. Firstly, domestic thieves in Australia generally do not carry firearms. Guns only make a situation like this worse. A baseball bat or pick handle will do the job nicely.
