Help.. getting .avi's to work in vegas 7

How the hell do you get AVI files to work in Sony Vegas 7?

I tried installing the microsoft dv codec's and then in prefs telling vegas to use ms codecs but that didnt work, i still just get audio and no video.

help!

Sounds like you are missing an audio codec. Go to http://www.kcsoftwares.com/ and download the VideoInspector (free) it will tell you which codec(s) the video was encoded with and even give you a link for download if you need it.

you might also have to reinstall vegas 7 ,have you installed all the updates?

it might be a Divx file.

You have the change the fourcc tag in the file. there's two programs you can use...

fourcc changer

or

avitype.exe

I like the second one because it does multiple files. It's been a while since I've done it, but I believe the problem is the xvid codec. If the old FCC code says xvid on the file, then change it to divx, or vice versa. I forget.

that should work for ya.

I have avitype.exe if you want it. It's pretty hard to find.

I should say that some avi's work but I have a few videos out of my Canon 650 camera I want to put together and when I dump them in I get the audio track but no video track :(

I'll try some of the things you guys recommended thank you
