Vista sucks so much - M$ now offers downgrade to XP

Quote:

Redmond (WA) - Microsoft has reportedly begun offering a downgrade option to PC makers who want to allow their customers to have the option of using XP over the pre-installed Vista software.

Computer manufacturers including Fujitsu, Lenovo, and HP now mainly offer PCs exclusively with Vista pre-installed. Customers who would prefer to have XP can request a downgrade disc for computers that come with Vista Business and Vista Ultimate. These two versions allow downgrading as part of the software licensing, but the process is difficult without a specifically coded disc.

Several big PC makers never stopped offering XP as an option for custom-built computers. However, the standalone operating system software has nearly vanished from all retail outlets.

The new policy dates back to June, when Microsoft caved in to allow the manufacturers to include a special XP downgrade CD with systems that come pre-loaded with one of the two high-end Vista packages. Per Microsoft's licensing terms, it is not obligated to supply earlier versions of its operating system to consumers or manufacturers.

Big_Red 09-25-2007 11:02 AM

hmmmm very interesting....

Jace 09-25-2007 11:03 AM

they have been doing this for quite some time

since vista started being preinstalled actually

I did it 3-4 months ago on my dads new desktop

i called them and they took care of it all on the phone, very nice about it too

edit: ah, read the whole thing now, they are giving a downgrade disc out...wish I had that at the time

DollarKing 09-25-2007 11:04 AM

I am using vista i am curious to know what problems you and anyone else has/is having with it?
I noticed a couple of funny things with it.

Klen 09-25-2007 11:04 AM

i'm not installing it unless someone points a gun at my head :2 cents:

GT-Omar 09-25-2007 11:06 AM

Dam straight! I hate vista. 1.) it's so memory intensive 2.) it's sooooooo fucking slow

Dare69 09-25-2007 11:06 AM

hm so good... I never had Vista on my computer.... I think that it´s needlessly fot tacky customer... XP is cool..

Dollarmansteve 09-25-2007 11:06 AM

I just picked up a gateway PC to have kicking around for internet and misc shit (media, etc) for home.. it has vista installed.. does all the same shit as XP did.. looks the same what are the issues that people are even having?

I can see corporate customers not wanting to make the switch.. but the average PC user doing interwebs, music/video and word processing.....

Fresh 09-25-2007 11:09 AM

fuck vista.

Scott McD 09-25-2007 11:14 AM

At last they realise it sucks balls...

DollarKing 09-25-2007 11:14 AM

It has a much better visual appeal than xp but mine came preinstalled and anyway i have only ever used windows so i don't have anything else besides microsoft products to compare it with!

dissipate 09-25-2007 11:16 AM

vista = complete failure

ShellyCrash 09-25-2007 11:18 AM

That's cool, been thinking about getting a new Viao, but didn't want to deal with Vista

try doing anything on it that requires the full use of the processor and memory

or better yet, leave it on for a week straight, by the end of that week it will crawl

I have an athlon x2 dual core chip and 4gb of ram and it still SUCKED for me

pornguy 09-25-2007 11:18 AM

I need a new laptop, and having to deal with vista is one of the things I don't want to do.

DaddyHalbucks 09-25-2007 11:29 AM

I hear Vista blows. Glad I kept XP.

I was thinking the same thing, and finally said fuck it... I'll just get another laptop in a year, anyways.

Vista sucks ....big time

Thomas N 09-25-2007 12:30 PM

Vista works perfectly for me. More than anything the problems are related to halfwit users, not the OS.

Let's see.
(Non-OEM)
Vista Business costs: $299.
Vista Ultimate costs: $399.
XP Pro costs: $288.

Of course, if you get the OEM version, which these companies already have site licenses for, it's no extra expense to them.. so, great, you can buy your system, then reformat and reinstall it so you can use it!

Brad 09-25-2007 12:33 PM

They should call it an upgrade to xp.

Twisted Dave 09-25-2007 12:40 PM

Vista is better than XP.

Which one? Windows NT 3 and 4 were great from their first release. Win2K was great too. The same I could say about XP. Yes, it had a lot of bugs before SP1 but it was a good system in general. On the other hand, almost a year passed from first release of Vista. Has it been improved a bit since that time? Course it hasn't!

I have Vista on my laptop. Works fine for me.

Matt 26z 09-25-2007 01:00 PM

We are at a personal computing stage right now where a computer that is five years old can do 99% of the things that a brand new one can do. Unless you are gaming or need it for intensive business use, why does anyone buy a new computer these days? It's completely unnecessary.

That's why I think Vista was a conspiracy of sorts between Microsoft and the PC makers. If regular software is no longer making computers obsolete, then the next logical step is to create an OS that you need a brand new computer to operate.

GatorB 09-25-2007 01:03 PM

Actually a smart move on MS part. Get the sheep to downgrade their PCs to XP then later when they HAVE to change to Vista charge them for it when they could have had it already for FREE.

Nigga please. Are you FORCED into getting Vista? No. So are you FORCED into getting a new PC? No. If you get a new PC will it have Vista? Yes. Is it powerful enough to handle Vista? Yes. Why? Not because it HAS to be powerful enough because computer get more powerful and cheaper by the day.

3 1/2 years ago I paid $1100 for my computer. 2 years later my friend got one slightly more powerful for $350 cheaper. Today a $300 wal-mart computer is more powerful. Go look at an ad for a computer from 20 years ago and see what you got for $2000.

Vista blows. NOTHING works. The thousands I've spent on software are useless. (I have one program that cost $4000 and it doesn't work). My large format printers, vinyl cutters, regular printers, Dymo labeler.... the list goes on..... none of it works in Vista.

Amputate Your Head 09-25-2007 01:16 PM

do a Google search for "Vista sucks".....

doesn't appear to be a very popular product from MS.

That's not Vistas fault. Blame the company that you paid $4000 to. companies had PLENTY of time to make sure their hardware and software were Vista capable. If they aren't that's not MS fault. Quit hating.

Nope, not people who understand computers.

But what about the average user who is strolling through Best Buy and sees that slick looking version of Windows (Vista) on all the computers? THAT is what is making the sale.

The problem is not the software I bought, or the hardware I use. ALL of it works perfectly. The problem is that piece of shit Vista. Why the fuck should I have to buy all new hardware and software just to be able to use Vista? And none of the hardware companies are updating the drivers to Vista, because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM I asked about it said "Vista sucks and it won't last long. Stick with XP."

Which I gladly did.

So you can keep your goofy fucking operating system with the fancy flipping windows. It's idiots like you that support that kind of shitting engineering that make it difficult for the rest of us.

Get over yourself Gator.... you got ripped off by Microsoft. Move on. Defending Vista is getting you nowhere. The rest of the world already knows it's a piece of shit.

Jimmy Rock 09-25-2007 02:10 PM

i just returned my Laptop to Dell, i dont ever want to see that Vista system again..!!!

80% of people polled didn't want Vista, but i'm sure 100% of MSFT shareholders wanted Vista LOL.

I have the same processor and amount of ram and have a similar issue with it. I have it on a second pc for testing and it pretty much needs rebooted every morning if i happen to leave it running over night. :(

G-Rotica 09-25-2007 02:35 PM

I'm running Vista with no issues, yet.

Bird 09-25-2007 02:44 PM

As much as I don't like the Vista OS, I just have to go with the flow and like it till the next mac-iVista os comes out.

woj 09-25-2007 03:57 PM

What's so bad about vista anyway? I think 99% of the problems are from people who have old/incompatible hardware...

Shoplifter 09-25-2007 04:57 PM

I run Vista and it blows the doors off of XP. A lot of what you hear about Vista is total BS FUD...Most of it is descended from a review on Tomshardware that was done before proper drivers were out.

As well I have a USB stick in with a 4 gig readyboost cache. It flies.

DollarKing 09-25-2007 05:03 PM

I have noticed sometimes my hard drive goes into a endless whirling around and i have had to shut off and restart to get out of it so whether thats a vista prob i don't know.I only recently purchased a acer pc as my dell was starting to seriously play up after 6-7 years of use.

GrouchyAdmin 09-25-2007 05:06 PM

My laptop is 100% Vista compatible, all the way down to the intel wireless. Thus, it runs Linux.

Vista has much stronger hardware requirements, but basically, it's XP with a prettier skin where everything runs directly through DirectX to give it the 'lickable interface.'

The last go-around, oeople were saying that XP was basically 2000 with themes, which for the most part was true.

Vista is a bit more, but it's a hog for what it does. If you don't need the pretty bells and whistles (Let's see, the new WinFS didn't make it.. the firewall is still a joke, and other than having the ability to buy up into turning your computer into a prettier DVD player), there's not that much of a need for it.

...and whoever said NT 3 was decent does not remember NT3. NT 3.51 was the first usable release of NT, and NT4 is still a staple found doing various OEM and proprietary tasks, all of these years later.

You just proved my point. The crappy companies you do business with were too lazy or incompetent to do a firmware upgrade and somehow that's MS fault. Vista isn't gpoing anywhere you just took advice from retards. Please list these compnaies so I know whose products to avoid buying.

Quote:

Actually I still use XP dipshit.

First idiots like you complain the XP sucks and is not secure. So MS revamps it's OS and in doing so hardware needs to have firmware upgrades. Now you bitch about that. So what you are saying is that MS should have just made a OS pretty much like XP which people like you bitch about being too insecure. So when that OS gets hacked to peices because of it's similarity to XP you'll have somehting else to bitch about. But hey at least the fucktard from the company you bought you POS hardware from don't have to get their lazy asses off the couch and do some actual work.

If MS OSes suck so much why not get an Apple or use Linux?
