Movie recommendations like Seven, 12 Monkeys...

Fight Club, Dark City, Pi, Memento, Pan's Labirynth ...

No one say Donnie Darko or Butterfly Effect. Nothing with Drew Barrymore either.

List me some great mind-fuck and/or dark movies.

DeadFidel 09-09-2007 11:04 PM

Saw "Perfume, the story of a murderer" yesterday, (On Demand) watchable. If it weren't for Dustin Hoffman's long camio, the flick would be better. I couldn't take his role serious, but I would give it a look.

AgentCash 09-09-2007 11:05 PM

Eraserhead, Primer, The Machinist, Romeo is Bleeding, Requiem for a Dream, American Psycho, Cube, THX1138

AgentCash 09-09-2007 11:07 PM

Oh, and add Irreversible near the top of that list.

Wow, I haven't seen Eraserhead in a long while.

I have The Machinist, Requiem, American Psycho and Cube on dvd.

On a lighter note, I also love the movie Cemetery Man with Rupert Everett.

bhutocracy 09-10-2007 12:03 AM

City of Lost Children

jscott 09-10-2007 12:07 AM

Uno, i love those movies!

i'd HIGHLY recommend you watch 28 Days Later.........and then the newer movie 28 Weeks Later

fucking awesome movies!

bhutocracy 09-10-2007 12:10 AM

I thought Primer was trying to be too clever for it's own good.

RevSand 09-10-2007 12:10 AM

8mm maybe

_mC_ 09-10-2007 12:12 AM

This is a little off topic, but, if you like American Psycho then I highly suggest reading the book. More killing and MUCH more graphic! I think the woman that nothing happens to in the beginning, in the book, he stuffs her vagina with cheese, forces a habit trail into her, and lets rats eat their way into her vagina. SICK and TWISTED!

Obviously, it didn't make the movie... LOL!

SomeCreep 09-10-2007 01:22 AM

the usual suspects, pulp fiction, kalifornia, true romance, taxi driver

pr0 09-10-2007 01:34 AM

A Scanner Darkly

just trust me.....

50 first dates is a mind fuck...o wait, no Barrymore's ; )

jasminexxx 09-10-2007 01:35 AM

Seen em both. The first half of 28 Days Later is amazing.

On an unrelated note have you ever see Way of the Gun or Boondock Saints?

I liked the part of the book where he kills the homeless guy and it describes his eyeball juice running down his cheek.

NinjaSteve 09-10-2007 03:11 AM

More awesome movies:
may, visitor q, ichi the killer
:pimp

I have all those except pulp fiction on dvd only because I've seen it a million times anyway.

I watched A Scanner Darkly while tripping. That was a lot to handle.

NinjaSteve 09-10-2007 03:14 AM

Of course there's House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

oh shit

One of my alltime faves. It set the stage for a lot of later mindfuck type movies that blurred the line between reality and imagination/fear/etc... I think The Jacket takes a lot from Jacob's Ladder.

Great call! That is a great movie that I haven't seen in a while.

I also want to state Naked Lunch is another perfect example of the type of movie i'm looking for.

I have The Game on DVD... Wasn't a big fan of Fallen. Haven't seen Subject Number 2, but I'll look it up.

Also for Michael Douglas, Falling Down is one of his best. "Now you're going to die wearing that stupid little hat. How does it feel?"

Layer Cake was good, but a lil overrated imo. Haven't seen Dobermann.

WARNING: Not for the faint of heart!!!

Check out the trailer for this one - it makes the hair on my neck stand up just hearing the soundtrack.

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
21 grams
The machinist / Equilibrium (both with Christian Bale)

Great thread :)

ilbb 09-10-2007 05:41 AM

The Prestige

loreen 09-10-2007 05:46 AM

Oh, and Eyes Wide Shut.. I remember it was pretty fucked up :)

The most disturbing move of all time: Happiness

I like most of Kubrick's other work much more.

Barry Lyndon
A Clockwork Orange
2001
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket

drjones 09-10-2007 06:30 AM

Also, Spun was pretty good:

uno 09-10-2007 06:38 AM

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

*Pretty good, for Jim Carey I'd rather watch Truman Show or Man on the Moon

21 grams

*Overrated imo

The machinist / Equilibrium (both with Christian Bale)

*The Machinist was amazing and even better was what Christian Bale actually put himself through to really get into that character. I was really worried for his long term health for getting into such a state.

*Equilibrium was ok, pretty much a combo of Brave New World, 1984 and Farenheit 451

Great thread :)

*thanks! I take my movies seriously and probably spend way too much time watching them.

Agreed. Spun was pretty much the meth version of Requiem.

hahahahhahaha I was telling Thurbs and NinjaSteve about that movie earlier. It's been one of my favorites for years and definitely one of the most fucked up comedies I can think of.

A friend just told me about a movie called Fido. A touching story of a boy and his pet zombie. It sounds pretty good.

frostyimpressions 09-10-2007 03:11 PM

Mulholland Drive

Miss Munki 09-10-2007 03:15 PM
