Dogs sure do eat the strangest things

My spaniel hadn't been feeling good for most of the day before yesterday and that night spent all night up whimpering. She has always had a bit of a bad digestive system so I was giving it a day or so to play out and see if it was just the 'normal' problems and then go to the vet the next day if she was still the same way.

So, late last night I am sitting down with her and she suddenly coughs a big cough and makes like she is going to be sick and all that comes out if half a dryer sheet. Then after about five minutes she is prancing around like she feels top of the world. No idea when she managed to grab the dryer sheet but that certain is a first for me!

Sarah_Jayne 08-28-2007 07:28 AM

Maybe I should have started with the poo eating stories.

G-Rotica 08-28-2007 07:36 AM

My dog coughed up some carpet, still haven't found out where he got it from.

gooddomains 08-28-2007 07:39 AM

Forest 08-28-2007 07:39 AM

Boobs 08-28-2007 07:56 AM

Both of my dogs love destroying any paper products but had that napkin actually been used at the meal and had any food smells on it at all it would be even more likely to die..lol

mistergardener 08-28-2007 08:08 AM

Sometimes when I take my dog for a walk, all of a sudden he would just pick up something to munch on. Small stones most of the time. Have to take it out of his mouth.

Is this a Pug thing, because a few days ago I caught my little shithead "eating from the source" as well. It was like she had her head under the soft serve ice cream spout. :1orglaugh

My cat is dead now but when she was around she had a real thing about licking plastic. I never figured it out.

NinjaSteve 08-28-2007 08:10 AM

A dryer sheet? Oh man, I wouldn't think even a dog would like the taste of that. :D

No in my case it is the spaniel that treats the pug as a chocolate fountain.

The way she eats sometimes I don't think it actually touches the sides long enough for her to taste things.

Baal.PitBull 08-28-2007 08:15 AM

I'll never eat chocolate icecream again after reading this thread

Violetta 08-28-2007 08:16 AM

dogs are weired!

Peaches 08-28-2007 09:02 AM

LOL, yeah, dryer sheets are big around here. The puppy also loves tissue paper (as did the older male but he's gotten over that recently). The puppy chews on one of my exercise bands - might as well SOMEONE get use out of it - and I have to cut the ends off constantly to keep him from eating it.

The older male LOVES dirt, but it has to be potting soil. The old female is a big bug eater.

The upside is that I haven't had to pick up any food I've dropped on the kitchen floor in 10+ years.

I caught her doing it a few weeks ago for the first time. Now I have to constantly keep after her.

TG Rebecca 08-28-2007 10:11 AM

aww, poor baby! i hope she's still doing good. :) those dryer sheets always upset my stomach, too. :)

frostyimpressions 08-28-2007 10:26 AM

My friends dog ate her used tampon out of the trash once. We didn't discover that he had did that until we saw it in his poop.

jonesonyou 08-28-2007 10:28 AM

tomeatsdinner 08-28-2007 10:29 AM

Trust me, I know the feeling. I keep telling people that for Christmas I want something where I push a button and it says 'No MAGGIE!, Maggie NO!" so I don't have to be saying it all day long.

Brother Bilo 08-28-2007 11:20 AM

My buddy and I picked up some Wendy's one time back in high school and when I sat down at the table I forgot my drink. So I got up, went about 20 feet to get my drink and when I turned around, my dog was stretching to barely get her front teeth on the edge of the lettuce. Really stretching, like she was sneaky. So I yelled at her and she got this scared look on her face and took the entire burger down in one bite. I was so pissed, a whole Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger in one shot, and she wasn't a big dog.

DateDoc 08-28-2007 11:20 AM

My dog loves avocado, tomatoes, onion, oranges and so many other things. 90% of the stuff he eats he barely chews. In the mouth, down the throat and onto more stuff to eat.

My late kitty used to lick and chew plastic bags as well.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 08-28-2007 11:45 AM

My friend's dog ate an entire pair of pantyhose. One day, they started coming out, and... they weren't coming out of his mouth....:helpme

mistergardener 08-28-2007 11:47 AM

dogs eat the strangest things. some people eat dog, which is sick. they say it's delicious, though. ewwww.

_Richard_ 08-28-2007 11:53 AM

That's a funny story, we have a new 10 Week old puppy that is having Stool problems, We see the Vet today.

After your story, I can only imagine. :1orglaugh

WarChild 08-28-2007 12:01 PM

I had a Rottweiler that hadn't been eating for a day or so and then started throwing up water. X-rays showed an entire gravel pile in her stomach. She was able to pass (with help of some oils and stuff) something like 23 individual rocks.

That is toooo funny.
Same thing happened with my dog, wasn't feeling well for a day or so.... took him to the park and he poo'd out a pair of thong undies. A couple weeks later, same thing and out came a sock.

He is 4 now, he mostly over it, he does quite like the undies tho, which is sooooooooooo gross, but how can you get mad at this face....

A friend of mine has a husky that ate a sock once. They took her to the vet and an X ray showed it in her stomach. The vet basically told them she might pass it, but it might get tangled in her intestines and they would have to surgically remove it. Two days later out it came no problem. That dog has eaten about 5 or 6 socks now that they know of.

Mediachick 08-28-2007 12:53 PM

ever heard of the guy who brough his pup to the vet cuz something was wrong with it and got cought cheating because they found a red lace bra inside of the dog's stomach?... the bra didnt belong to the guy's wife :1orglaugh

jmk 08-28-2007 01:00 PM

Yeah, been there done that. Now I have to make sure none of that stuff is in "available" trash cans. The kitty box is also off limits.

I came home one time years ago to find my older female's face completely covered in corn meal and half the bad eaten. Seriously, if it's even SLIGHTLY edible, they will eat it.

Vitasoy 08-28-2007 01:39 PM

heh I knew it was going to be about poo

deanberkeley 08-28-2007 01:43 PM

My dog once picked up a condom on the street and began eating it. That was fun digging it out of his mouth...
