will76 - your sponsor polls are wortheless

you have good intentions (well, actually I guess your ultimate intention is to promote RefferalMatrix.com) but these polls are pretty much wortheless

the sponsors just icq their friends/affiliates to vote for them so the poll results/winners are not really representative as to what the adult webmastsers community thinks

SmokeyTheBear 08-26-2007 02:27 AM

i dont think your right at all..

ps will76 icq'd me this thread and forced me to say this to throw off the opinions on your opinions on his polls opinions.

I agree.

The entire concept is really no good :2 cents:

Violetta 08-26-2007 03:12 AM

I have voted 2 times I think..

donkevlar 08-26-2007 04:08 AM

You're a moron!

Voting on people based on a 20 item poll limit in alphabetical order is a perfect way of measuring!!

bobby666 08-26-2007 04:20 AM

aha you are a
poll_aristocrat

fluffygrrl 08-26-2007 05:42 AM

So hang on. Doesn't the fact that they can get people to vote for them mean that they're good ?

Jet - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-26-2007 07:26 AM

That's what i noticed too, programs ask all their employees and friends to vote for them, hence rendering the poll useless.

I've not been paying much attention to them (in fact I don't recall ever seeing one), but surely if somebody has the balls they can just enter the poll and air their complaints and dislikes about a sponsor? I know, a lot of people would be afraid that the sponsor would blam their account for being "disloyal", but surely there's a few honest people on GFY?

so all elections are useless then? because the people in the competition might "campaign" and ask people to vote for them?

How do you suppose this should have been done?

i really should just ignore you people who bitch without solutions. If you think something is bad fine, but tell me a better way if you want to bitch.

As I asked you in another thread.... how else should this have been done other then alphabetically?

Should I have put 300 names in a hat and picked ? If i would have done anything other then alphabetically then some people would have bitched that some sponsors were put in groups with no name programs so they would have an advantage thinking that I was rigging things. At least alphabetically there is no possible thoughts of fixing things.

You also obviously didn't read how it all works, the winner of each group goes to the finally poll. Each of these group polls is just a way to weed it down to the final 20. 16 of which are group winners and 4 from those who didnt win but had a lot of votes.

If you think you could have done it a better way please share....

Not really. I could probably get 50 people on my ICQ list to vote for a sponsor they have never used and know nothing about. Popularity does not always equate excellence.

Theo 08-26-2007 09:10 AM

we got a lot of votes and i found out after poll was closed :)

I've noticed the trend on this board with some is to sit by and snicker while ridiculing the ideas of others, and offer no better way of doing it whatsoever.

Personally I would rather do business with doers rather than ridiculers.

exactly, there is a LOT of people who bitch about stuff but have no better solution or way to do it.

There was a reason I called it the "most popular" sponsor contest. The company who gets the most votes wins. I guess according to some people here some sponsors have more employees then the number of people posting on GFY and that is why they won. Their employees outvoted all the people on GFY.

this is exactly what I meant

and come on, this is not a torrent fight, why would I offer solutions for you will?

I just saw your 9th or 10th poll and had this spontaneous thought after seeing the results of the last one, in particular after seeing how bad lightspeedcash is doing in it compared to others

I dont even know whats the competition really about, will the winner get some kind of prize?

anyway, I was just pointing out that often people vote because they are asked to vote. programs owners or reps ask their friends or affiliates who wouldn't usually bother to vote or wouldn't even see the thread, to vote.

that is why the results aren't really representative.

also, even a guy with 7 fake nicknames (and there are such guys here) could easily alter some poll results

that was my point and no, I don't really want to argue about it, neither i do intend to suggest a solution, all i wanted was to point out how false these polls can be

EOT from my side

i said im out but i guess some people still dont get it

normal election - based on campaigns, presenting programs etc.. its more or less fair

here - will76 makes a poll, 20 or so sponsors to chose, the thread gets 196 views and 12 replies and not really many peopel vote, so the results are like

0
5
2
4
0
1
5
6
3
0
0
3

etc

but some program owner, icq's his friends, or -in wills' words - his 'bros' and suddenly 20 'bros' who didnt even see that thread, just vote quickyl for sponsor X and suddenly sponsor x gets 20 votes, even though the program is not really popular among webmasters at all

was it so hard to get?

unless someone is buying votes (that would be illegal :winkwink:) i don't see what the problem is. There is no way to prevent that from happening and no way to stop owners, employees or friends of theirs from voting. If anything, it is fair because they all could do it if they wanted to. Also, i would hope GFY as a whole could out vote someone's staff so for all you know some of the votes did come from people here, not just that companies employees.

fuzebox 08-26-2007 12:28 PM

My only problem with it was that some groups had several sponsors I really liked, and others had all sponsors I didn't give a shit about. I have no idea how it could have been done better though.
