Piracy Roundtable discussion here in L.A.
Who would be interested in attending and showing up?
thought i should ask before we get into our rolodexes to start drumming up support and attendance. Content Producers Affiliates Studios Sponsors Encoding Houses Photogs Pornstars Agents Duplication Houses Distributors did i miss anyone. essentially, i think its important to get the community together a la PTA meeting style and throw around the issues. i am not leading anything. i would however like to help set up the association and get the ball rolling with a board of trustees and what not before i hand it over. issues can be discussed and some structure can come from such a meeting. without alienating anyone that does not live in l.a. we can come up with an absenteeism presence somehow if need be. this is an industry issue and there is something here. lets find out what it is and help us help ourselves. enough is enough. if you are interested in getting together post here and or get in touch with me and voice your interest. come one come all. and if you are a content thief reading this. Hi!!! :1orglaugh |
Air3k... Count me in

Hmmmm, I like the idea but a lot of us would probably have to fly out to LA just to attend this meeting. What kind of time frame are we looking at here?

I'm in the area between August 19 and 29th, if it was between those dates I'd be there with bells on.

another thing we could potentially do is what they do on shows like bill maher and setup a web stream so we can give the password to people we want to have it with the stream url so we can have a screen at the front of the room to hear from people in their absenteeism :thumbsup |
I'm down...

thanks tony, homegrown. dave, its nice to see other people realize how serious this can actually become if we dont take time to deal with it.
if people can recommend someone to lead the round table that would be great too. i don't care how popular they are, i am looking for someone with experience on how to maximize the effectiveness of the round table. i don't have any experience with moderating anything like this. |
evil angel, hush money are in!

no offense but what is exactly to be discussed? I think most of us know the difference between using one minute clips on tube sites with full documentation to full dvd and member areas rips. We know the players and the ones who pay them for their traffic, and there are thousands of these sites which are mostly located overseas

VIVID IS IN WOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!
bring that hot chick that works there. lol. |

i think just getting these people in the same room would be an accomplishment and a test to see how serious everyone is. people are going to have to kick in money to see any progress. getting them all together to hash it out is the first major hurdle. secondly, a structured association needs to be setup and boarded. i guess getting everyone in a room with the same concerns and interests is the start i am looking for. i dont intend to be the leader of anything, i quickly want that thought to get out of peoples hands. i want to see this in the hands of people with a stake in losses. :thumbsup |

Let me just say my little piece on this. The key to stopping this isnt policing it. Its stopping it from being stolen to begin with. I hope proprietary content delivery systems are discussed. Mainstream companies are doing it. IE Netfix, Vongo, etc etc. Yes things can still be stolen even then. As has been said anything you can view on your computer you can still get. Right now the front doors to the liquor store are open and no one is manning the store. :2 cents:

this is a great move, and if we can get hosting companies on board, i know many of the large sites are hosted with a lot of adult companies that frequent this board, things could get solved easier.

Hosting companies (at least some of them) might have a vested interest in keeping the "other team" on the net, because that is where they make their money. I am sure most of them don't and would be very cooperative, but I can imagine that some of them make their money in less than honest ways. Basically, keep out the special interests and third parties, as they are the ones most likely to end up on the receiving end of DMCAs and whatnot in the long run. |
I, personally, think the FSC wants to analyze the problem and find the types of piracy doing the greatest amount of damage, set priorites according to the frequency and severity of the damages, choose the cases wisely in order to create "stare decisis" to rely on in future cases, and organize an effective effort to affect change.
I think that this is an industry-wide issue that can only be addressed effectively by the industry at large. If any member continues to be pirated, the entire industry suffers. Pirates don't care where they get the content. A ripped DVD is just as good as stolen website content. Do you think it would be beneficial for the FSC to arrange a meeting for the entire industry? |
People go where the money flows............. fact!

Having FSC or ASACP or AVN for that matter "arrange" a meeting is getting third parties in the game that may be beholden to certain "factions" of the situation at hand. Go to the "good company bad company" thread, if any of the ones mentioned as "bad" are also members or supporters of any of those groups, then those groups are at this point more clearly part of the problem and less about a solution. In my opinion (and my opinion only), FSC's sudden decision to get involved in the piracy issue makes me wonder. Did one of the companies profiting from the grey market suddenly show up and give them money to "look into the issue", hoping to have it buried in a series of round tables and industry conferences for the next 5 internext shows? FSC needs to concentrate on free speech and 2257 issues, there is more than enough for them there. |
|
I'd like to be there.
|
I would like to have the stream. I am 100% behind this. I would like to open my own program one day and would hate to have all my content out for free.
This is how things get done :) |
