Actually, as I mention to A1r3k on a another thread, you have to be somewhat careful who you let in the door. For starters this works best as an initiative directly from the content providers and copyright holders.

Hosting companies (at least some of them) might have a vested interest in keeping the "other team" on the net, because that is where they make their money. I am sure most of them don't and would be very cooperative, but I can imagine that some of them make their money in less than honest ways.

Basically, keep out the special interests and third parties, as they are the ones most likely to end up on the receiving end of DMCAs and whatnot in the long run.

great input. strongly considered and noted for future use.

Here Here!

finish what you started.

what does freedom of speech have to do with piracy and stolen content? I smells a FSC member trying to use all that webmaster money for thier own agenda.

Considering that AFF made the same "matching donations" deal with FSC that they did with ASACP, I am not surprised to see them sticking their noses into areas that Lars would like to see them address as slowly as possible. I could picture FSC forming a committee, scheduling meetings over the next year, perhaps having some information sessions at the next few shows, leading up to an official report to the board at the end of 2008 which would lead to more meetings at the next 2 AVN shows to judge how the community feels, and finally they will take the serious step of recommending to their members that they start to think about taking a stand on this serious issue by 2010.

Meanwhile, Lars is laughing his ass off all the way to the bank.

No, this doesn't need FSC or ASACP or AVN. No speed bumps please.

It needs to be a ways out because you need to identify the issues and propose a solution instead of just say piracy is bad AND iM MAD ABOUT IT MMMMKAY

This is a complex issue that doesnt have simple solutions case in point

usenet

and you will have more attendees done in conjunction with a major show

MeganS 08-16-2007 08:53 AM

i kinda agree with you Mike .. i am sure a lot of distributors would want to take action as well. It messes with their business a lot!

Some how we need a meeting at 1 show that has a VAST attendance from both sides. AEE and Internext have split time frames now ... and the attendance isn't what it used to be for the internet side.

hmmmmm ...

This is such an industry wide concern .. it's hard to get all sides together at once LOL

xoxo,
Megan

Robbie 08-16-2007 11:09 AM

I have an idea. How about a "preliminary" meeting now. With the express purpose of setting up a BIG meeting at Internext. That way all who have concerns could be there and address it. And it would give the offending parties the opportunity to stand in front of them and fully explain. And perhaps if they are willing to unconditionally stop any and all financing of torrent sites...then welcome them back home.
If not...well a "bro" card goes TWO ways. It seems to me that people who hurt the business shouldn't be allowed to be a part of the business. At least not at events that are FOR the business.
And keep this in mind before all the double talk starts...A lot of these sponsors are offering "pre-paid" spots. Now if they are willing to pay a TGP a wheelbarrow full of money to fly their banners...I would be shocked if the torrent sites aren't getting the same deal. And probably a LOT more money for it. So I would say that ignorance is no excuse.
It just seems to me that this should be addressed as one of the BIG events at Internext. That would be one "symposium" that I would certainly attend.
Something real would be happening at that. And if people could all address their concerns then perhaps something can be done to make everyone happy.
It won't be easy. These guys are making a lot of money off of that stuff. And I don't care who you are...it's never easy to walk away from that much money. Matter of fact, it's damn near stupid. But it has to be done. And as I said...what use is the "bro card" if it's only a handful of guys with nowhere to go?
If they aren't going to be longterm good for the industry...then banish them. Then the 5 or 6 companies that are the main offenders can hold their own tiny little get togethers and drink beers together while the real industry continues on without them.
I say prelim meeting now amongst content producers and concerned webmasters who can attend...And then a shootout at the OK Corral when Internext rolls around.

Pirates don't care where they get the content. A ripped DVD is just as good as stolen website content.

I think what he's trying to say is please send more money to the FSC so he can protect his best interest.

I bet you money that the first thing the FSC votes to go after is DVD pirates. Adult webmaster will be left footing the bill just like the 2257 issue

PIRACY ROUNDTABLE ANNOUNCEMENT

to be held at SHERTON UNIVERSAL in UNIVERSAL CITY

same place where webmaster access is held.

SEPTEMBER 5th, 7pm - BALLROOM inside the Hotel

seeric 08-16-2007 12:16 PM

Ok, the last few days have been a crazy whirlwind. Hundreds of ICQs, many many phone calls.

Now, with that said. This has already progressed beyond something that is ME/Shane's World oriented. I have the interest of many people/studios here in Porn Valley U.S.A. that are taking a major hit from the ongoing piracy across the world wide web. People who I thought would never talk to me about this. As this is a global issue and not that of California based producers, we will arrange a method for content producers and others that wish to contribute to be a part of the efforts of the association.

Shane's World will be making the first contribution to the entire effort by securing and donating the facility to have the round table discussion.

We will have Marie Callanders PIE. Cookies will be available for those who don't like. A la picnic style we would like to encourage people to bring anything that they would like to. This is a community based meeting.

This is the first in a series of discussions and structuring that will take place in a very short period of time.

The piracy defense association is a transparent, not for profit association. The books will be published for the public online and distributed to the associations members. A board will ultimately consist of members from within the industry who have a skin stake. Predominantly content producers and major studios supported by hand selected and qualified, respected members of the community.

This is a start.

To be effective we feel strongly that this must be a grass roots association, completely not for profit and handled withing the arena of those that are hit the hardest by piracy, meaning the content producers, studios, a license holders. The association is not a watchdog group. We've had enough of those. The association will actively pursue and return money to the arena that it was removed from. Not everyone is going to like the fact that this is not a money making venture. That's too bad.

The support that has been received so far is monumental. I am not going to get into any of the support offers or monetary offerings at this time because I don't want to jeopardize anything that is in process.

We feel that the only way this can work is if we do what other organizations have not done and show transparency. This is the communities association and no one else's, comprised solely of the community and it's counsels.

We encourage people to support a transparent, not for profit association comprised of content producers, studios, and license holders.

More to come....................
