Adbrite / AVN ads sending hitbot traffic, fake clicks, SCAM?

This was posted on another webmaster forum from a guy named Godius (famous for building dumpalink.com and now runs slutload.com - this guy has a great deal of respect and integrity) Here is what he said:

Default AVNADS Sending Fake Hits/Signups???

Ive been trying AVNADS on a few different websites, and i've chosen their Interstitials option to advertise.

They deliver a vast amount of hits in a very short time span, and their visitors seem to like my sign up pages a lot.

But what I discovered is that 90% of the signups do not actually use their accounts. They result in 0 user views per account.

Then I decided to build a CODE protection where people have to enter a certain code given on an image to prove they aren?t a computer signing up. The signups dropped with 90%, and all users who did sign up, also used their account.

I have had this on two different websites now... I personally think they have some kind of hitbot sending the hits.
Also Alexa didn?t show ANY changes when I received 75.000 extra hits per to my websites. Which is basically DOUBLE of what I have normally!

edit: just wrote to avnads, and asked them to explain all this. Also said it was posted on a large webmaster forum. Ill let you guys know what they write back.

this is an extremely wreckless post to be making on a major webmaster board

this could very easily be a rouge webmaster sending them bot traffic through AVN's system

rumors like this leave you looking like an asshole at the end of the day

Turboface 07-21-2007 01:21 AM

AVNAds is guilty of many things, but I seriously do not believe that they are sending bot traffic to their customers.

squizzel 07-21-2007 01:43 AM

its not me, i am just reporting what i have seen. Im not going to name the forum. Against site t.o.s?

But this thread has a shitload of replies with people seeming to believe it.

Can we get an AVN ads response on this?

chupacabra 07-21-2007 01:45 AM

unlikely, but wouldn't surprise or shock me considering the ads of theirs i see all over torrent sites. if they feed off that scum, who's to say they might not be hitbotting shitheels to boot..?

AVNAds is a broker, they sell ads on site A, but them on site B... thus.. site B uses hitbot traffic to fake clicks so that AVN pays them lots of money... site A receives that traffic

But it still means an avn advertiser gets screwed?

Why do all that and un-indate the surfer with a loggin? Ask the surfer to type something is will definatly reduce any kind of stat yer looking for.

Why not use a cookie silly?
Or even check Unique IP logs on the server for the image views or page views?

Hitbots now automatically sign up as well?

maddox 07-21-2007 03:46 AM

You only now discovered this?? I don't know AVN Ads but ADBRITE is sending 80% of hitbot traffic, I know because I run a mainstream pay per click search engine and there were many affiliates who tried to send that shitty traffic, they were immediately banned when we discovered what the traffic was lol

Yes ofcourse, this is not 1999 anymore :pimp
I sell you cheap hitbot from china and RU, good for trade sites.
Or expensive hitbot from USA and Canada, good for signups.
Minimum order is 200000 hitbots, convertions may fluctuate based on the price you pay :thumbsup

Its a known that Adbrite sends bots and click fraud.

I don't think its internal though, its more of that their fraud protecting sucks and their affiliates are sending the clicks.

davethetruth 07-21-2007 02:51 PM

I recently spent around 1k and didn't see any sales from it that I could tell.

I didn't really dig to deep either, but I could tell it wasn't worth the money for our retail stuff.

squizzel 07-21-2007 07:13 PM

interesting? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

tical 07-21-2007 07:18 PM

as a broker they should be held responsible for this, they are getting a comission for brokering the deal right? aren't brokers supposed to ensure things go smoothly?

Most adult "brokers" collect the money, and run the other way and hide when shit goes bad. Or close shop and open up a new company :2 cents:

IllTestYourGirls 07-21-2007 08:00 PM

i stopped using them on my sites. one of their ads was redirecting traffic to their site without anyone very clicking the banner.

woj 07-21-2007 08:10 PM

wow, 2 traffic broker drama threads on gfy in one week... this has gotta be a gfy first :thumbsup

If you don't log ip address, time, and referring URL for every single click of paid traffic you need to go back to being an employee. There is fraudulent traffic on Adbrite, there is fraudulent traffic on Yahoo, and nearly every other company I have purchased from. All data must be logged and questionable clicks must be forwarded to the provider for a refund. Most credible companies will credit your account within a few days.

So is AVNAds and Adbrite sending fake traffic? You bet. Traffic fraud is a massive problem across every ad network, the only company I've never had problems with is Google. But that doesn't mean you can't get a refund. The top tier networks are very much interested in clearing the scammers out of their systems.

squizzel 07-22-2007 12:44 PM

Google not sending crappy traffic through their AdSense publishers? Dude, please give me a break, i can't believe that you ever advertised with AdWords :2 cents:
