FACT: Ancient Chinee built a wall 3500 miles long to keep out invaders

It was 2300 years ago.

Modern day America can't get a 700 mile one going.

Of course, the difference is that the Chinese emperor didn't want 10 million Mongols to take Chinese jobs

:1orglaugh

Antonio 06-28-2007 07:09 AM

me like Chinee girls

aico 06-28-2007 07:10 AM

FACT: It wasn't built to keep people out, it was to keep them in.

jonesonyou 06-28-2007 07:10 AM

I don't Think The Mongols were planning on sneaking across the border. Rather Coming to Kill and takeover.

TheDoc 06-28-2007 08:11 AM

It was built by forced labor and slaves.. I'm sure we could build a wall if we had 1000's of people forced to work 15 hour days too.

ummm no it wasn't..it was built overall for defense, but mainly to keep out those pesky Mongolians.

The Great Wall concept was revived again during the Ming Dynasty following the Ming army's defeat by the Mongols in the Battle of Tumu in 1449. The Ming had failed to gain a clear upper-hand over the Mongols after successive battles, and the long-drawn conflict was taking a toll on the empire. The Ming adopted a new strategy to keep the Mongols out by constructing walls along the northern border of China. Acknowledging the Mongol control established in the Ordos Desert, the wall followed the desert's southern edge instead of incorporating the bend of the Huang He

Isn't that who the people who want a wall are trying to keep out? :upsidedow

woj 06-28-2007 10:08 AM

the truth is, that they could easily build it now... but those wiser in charge, realize that illegal immigrants actually benefit our economy... really, the only group that would benefit from reduced immigration are limited skill laborers, everyone else would get fucked by increased inflation...

ahh.. that's great. but it's almost impossible to guard the entire wall.. it's made to prevent easy ability to leave with 'loot'

They didn't need to guard it (though they did in areas).

They needed it to act as a geographical barrier... much like an artificial mountain range.

Yeah i must agree with you... During the Warring States Period from the 5th century BC to 221 BC, the states of Qi, Yan and Zhao all constructed extensive fortifications to defend their own borders. :)

Far-L 06-28-2007 11:27 AM

Actually that is a complete MYTH. The Great Wall is not visible from space either. The great wall is actually a collection of fortifications that were built over several dynasties. Their use was limited according to whether or not locals were getting along with the mongols or not, which changed from time to time and location to location.

There was a good New Yorker article about this a month or two ago.

Actually while is started out as a patchwork of smaller fortifications it was unified\completed during the Qin Dynasty and then expanded significantly in the Ming.

Drake 06-28-2007 11:34 AM

Is China better off today because of that wall?

They're not mongolian?

Without that wall, China might've been dominated by fierce mongolian warriors!

Hehe, maybe we should hire the Mexicans to build the wall, living in Arizona and all these walled neighborhoods here, they have mad experience building walls.

And the labor price, way cheaper than paying the natguard. Did you see we built part of the wall within Mexico.. We got the skillz too!

eroswebmaster 06-28-2007 11:44 AM

"Hey Mongowrians...you rike my shitty wall?"

not a bad Idea hire illegals to build the wall, as they finish they could be on the Mexican side of the wall and then go home.

DaddyHalbucks 06-28-2007 12:52 PM

The Republicans really screwed up immigration. You bet we need a wall.

tiger 06-28-2007 01:30 PM

It was built by slave labor.

RawAlex 06-28-2007 01:51 PM

Actually, they only built the wall to stop the reformed Led Zeppelin from touring in China. Keep the nasty 60 year old hairballs out of the country.

aico 06-28-2007 01:56 PM

LMAO at all the retards who took my "FACT" seriously.
