So the aboriginals get a drinking ban and call it racism
Let me sum it up real quick. Any Aussie who can correct me please do so.
In this hood somewhere in Sydney where a big group of Aboriginals live they now have banned alcohol and porn. After crying for a long time they got full power over their own community a few years ago resulting in massive drug and alcohol abuse, child prostitution and a huge increase in child abuse. Like really sickening numbers. So now the Australian government takes control over them again and the Aboriginal community responds by calling it racism. |
apparently those idiots can't control themselves :)
|
Bout time they ban booze and guns with native americans :winkwink:
but seriously... this I was not aware of... sounds like a headache, just give them some bayer aspirin |
Yes it's true Franck, but not just sydney, I think it's Australia wide though.
The Abo's call racism if the wind blows the wrong way |

Whether the wind is blowing or not is irrelevant. :Oh crap |
Yeah it's nationwide.. I saw it on tv lastnight i am pretty sure it was some outback country , the abos get what they want.. they can even go to college and not have to pay nothing , they get extra benefits , everything is so easy for them but they choose to sit around and get high of petrol and drunk.

It was just on the news that the abo's are going to stop tourists climbing Ayres Rock in protest to what the government is doing

You guys are right about the abo's drinking themselves stupid.
Try to remember tho, we came in and took thier land, and gave them the booze they are addicted to now. Im not trying to give em a free ride, but we fucked em over pretty hard, its gonna be another couple of generations before they can get on thier feet. |

LOL, seems a bit pointless to me - how the hell are they going to enforce a booze ban in the 1,000's of miles of outback the abo's roam in ????? Even without shop bought booze I bet the average Abo knows knows a dozen different ways to get off his head :1orglaugh |

And another point that springs to mind is that with a blanket booze ban on all Abo's for the reasons given it smacks of racial stereotyping unless your Government has evidence to show that all your countries Abo's are alchohol abusers. Personaly I think the Abo's are right to be up in arms about this. |

You can tell it's an election year can't ya? :)
Send in the troops, ban the grog, get Johnys ugly mug all over the media for a few weeks. But ya we all knew the abo's would sook up, they will all prolly starting drinking more petrol or something. -N |

so a kid who has been born into this lifestyle should just one day get up and say 'right, now i'm going to go and be apart of civilized society'? where exactly did you read that aboriginals (not abo's - shows some respect) can go to college free? Most of them don't have access to primary & secondary education. how are they going to take advantage of those oh so generous free places in colleges? we made this so by throwing money at a 'problem' that we didn't want to invest any energy into and now we are paying for it with a bunch of communities all over the country that live partly their old culture, partly the one we've 'bought' them and partly one that's been created from alcohol & violence. we confused their culture, and its going to take the current extreme measures PLUS several generations for there to be a solution that gives them the rights and opportunities of human beings and the ability to accept & use those opportunities to improve their lives. the particular community that is being taken over is in the northern territory, its an aboriginal reserve near the base of Ayers Rock & is entirely self sufficient & a long distance from any towns. the choice of location is something to do with the law where federal government can't take over in the 'states' but can in a 'territory', which is why they didn't do this in WA, NSW, QLD or any of the other places the same things are occuring. |

Maybe it comes from just scanning this thread . . . . but they are refusing to sell alcohol just to Aborigines, and there is nothing wrong with that?

I've worked in bars in towns where they heavily populate in north queensland and northern territory - in townsville I had drinks thrown at me, got spat on, slipped on vomit etc ... but that was the students & army population on pay day. Yes the aboriginal population also used to drink there every second thursday & some of them are disgusting. But its no more or less disgusting watching an aboriginal 'hoik a lugie at you than some meathead in a uniform or some dickhead teenager. BadDog, our prime minister has called a crisis situation due to it being an election year and we have had a decade of fast growing problems in aboriginal communities. We've built shit house towns in the middle of the dessert, rounded up the aboriginals & thrown a bunch of money at them and now all this time later we are wondering why the communities are rife with alcohol & sexual abuse. The government have just announced they are sending in federal police to govern 1 particular town which is being used as an example situation to 'resolve the problem of drinking & sexual abuse in aboriginal communities'. They are banning alcohol, withholding welfare payments, compulsory health checks for children & if children don't go to school parents don't get full welfare payments. Its fairly controversial down here at the moment & I guess is comparable with some of the same mistakes made in america with the native indian population or any other country where white people push out natives. |

Yeah I didn't think so. Seriously FUCK growing up in an aboriginal household. You've got no chance. It's kinda the same as growing up in the very lowest white socioeconomic group where there is generational unemployment. As much as you hear rags to riches stories, they don't come out of these households. It's not simply "poor".. it's worse than that.. I'm sure most families have been through at least a poor stage and can identify with it to some degree. But this is worse. It's not about lack of money but the mentality that institutionalised welfare/poverty/whatever generates. You laughably imagine yourself as one of those kids and how you'd easily get out of the cycle - as if you would be the same person you are now if you grew up with loser parents that didn't value education or had a single adult work in the last 3 generations. You'd grow up exactly like them.. mugging guys down at the supermarket and calling everyone JC's and white cunts. The reality is they do have it harder than most people.. as do the very lowest rung of whites. It goes beyond what opportunities they actually have.. and more what is possible given how fucked up their home situation is in terms of generating a kid thats going to go to law school or become a doctor. That said I do live in a country town and I'm not particularly bleeding heart about this.. just a realist. We have "black out" nights here where whites don't go out because the aboriginals are having football matches or big get togethers and you're likely to get mugged or just the shit kicked out of you if a group of them find you on the street late at night. Hell doesn't even need that.. one of my employee's brothers was mugged on the weekend by three of them. My own brother was gang bashed in highschool (after earlier beating up one of them who instigated it and being made the bad guy because he was white and the guy put on a sob story) as well as countless other incidents.. So I'm not a city living bleeding heart. I just kicked the "free ride" bullshit early on. You couldn't pay me enough money to go black or very poor white and have that mentality. And lets face it.. I could get just as angry about white welfare if I wanted to.. it's cheaper for poor whites to got to uni with austudy.. rent assistence etc blah blah blah. But I wouldn't trade places. Regarding these measures... if it helps at all then good. But I doubt there is any magic bullet for the problem. Except the whole stolen generation solution. Which in a really cold sense probably worked well for the socioeconomic outcomes of each child invovled even though we all know how that turned out. |

But it's more of a class issue than a race issue. You've got working class whites in country towns blaming their problems and lack of opportunities on unemployed class blacks who "get everything given on a silver platter". The reality is that the upper class white sees both the working class white and the unemployed aboriginal in the same light... they may as well be the same race. Just look at all the AB class people on the ABC laughing at, not with Kath and Kim (yeah I know its on commercial tv now.). But people would be better off worrying about how to make the best of their own situation and get ahead with what's available to them, even if it's just their wits.. than be controlled and wedged on issues about racial equality. |

Also, comparing this to what happened here 125+ years ago isn't really fair, since it was 125+ years ago |
Quote:
Haven't really got a view on this issue, don't have very much to do with aboriginals ever. Friends that lived in communitiys that have large aboriginal populations seem to feel that a bullet is too good for most :Oh crap |

I hope for the best, but am expecting the worst. Thats the result of forcing a lifestyle on a race of people ill equipped to deal with it. I don't find it that funny.....
|
first you take the land, then the booze, then the sex and later the women. Wrong move, very wrong. Who are the australians to tell the aboriginals what or what not to do.
|
Where are all the white Aussies willing to trade in their white skin and privileges for the life of an aborigine?
Oh thats right, there are none. Anyone who talk about the benefits of being an aborigine has a screw loose. They have always been second class citizens and always will be. Australia is one of the most racist countries on Earth. |
It's mostly in the Northern Territory, at least with regards to what is happening now. And the Australian Government has been ineffective for a long time. I support the measures, but in honesty it's at least in part a pre-election stunt. The Aboriginals do get a shit load of money and support though, and they've produced very little good from it. I remember when my brother was hired to work up in the Northern Territory building brand new houses (fully fitted) that were giving to Aboriginals for free. Within less than 12 months almost every house was completely trashed. A hard line stance is perhaps needed, but let us hope they stick at it and are serious about making significant progress, rather than pushing it under the rug or using it to get a few votes before the elections.

I hearby say that flagpole sitters [especially ones that have commited atrocities own their own indigenous races] can butt the fuck out of the thread.
It's not a clear cut issue by any means, election year or not, aboriginies have a average lifespan 30 years LESS than white people in the same country. That's fucked up. |
lots of sweeping statements, all avoiding the fact that whites are a mutation of human life and have done nothing but fucked the place with a new peice of shite handed to everyone daily in order for them to return home, use it and throw it in the trash to be collected by a stinky fucking truck to throw it on a heap for our kids to deal with. It doesn't and has never made sense to me, I exist as best as i can within this system we call "life" but it just gets harder to put good food on the table. I think another hitler is needed to cull the population of the world a little....

I do support the tying of welfare payments to the school attendence of children and health checks etc. But I support that for all Australians not just aboriginals. I don't think the concept as a whole is bad it just probably needs a lot more work than a rabbit-out-of-a-hat election ploy. |
I get the pissed cunts sleeping in my front yard, I cant wait till they ban em from drinking.

Ok guys, I lived in Darwin for 11 years before moving to Europe and I can honestly say I have met some good well educated aboriginals?and this is not having a go at them, it was only 3. I have to agree with most of the posts here and say it is a huge problem in the NT drinking and YES SNORTING PETROL!
To add to it further they were NOT taken to a settlement in the middle of nowhere by the government, the fact is the communities in the outback of NT were created by the tribes by saying they wanted to go back to their Sacred land and when a tribe had no Sacred land they simply told the NT government that particular area in Arnhem land is our Sacred land that belonged to our ancestors and they settled there. I was born in Tasmania (state of Australia) where we don?t have an aboriginal problem because there are none there. |
why would an asshole in Amsterdam care about what happens in Australia?
|
If anyone else is allowed, but not them, then its racism...
