Now pack up your laptop, take it back to Best Buy and on the way, drop your resume off at Walmart, Target and shiiit, while your at it returning your laptop, drop one off at Best Buy too. :thumbsup

My Best Tip:

Dedicate yourself to one project at one time.


Do not 'start' 10 projects at same time. Give all your time and effort to one project at one time. And do not start another (no matter how appealing and 'better' it is seems) unless you feel first one is in stage of initial success.

Conversions seem to be so shitty these days that you must send a ton of traffic just to make any money!

Stay consistent and work on your projects every day.

Think about it for a minute. You're copying those that make money, right? Those people that are industry leaders. Now, they made it because they came up with ideas that pushed the boundaries just enough, figured out what would work through trial and error. They took a risk, a calculated risk, and came up with an idea that suited the time, situation and target market. While you're busy copying them, they're busy pumping out the new idea that keeps up with progress.

Do your research, think, take a little risk every now and again and do something different.

Also, as for my tip, adult is a business like every other. You need a plan, you need to set goals, you need to be a master at learning and communication. You need to run your business, like a business!

I just want to say thanks to everyone who is contributing to this thread. I am new to the industry and will take all the advice I can get!

in pron I can get tons of promo content from sponsors, is there such thing as promo content in mainstream?

Product feeds, communities, there's all kinds of tools and tricks that work better for mainstream than porn.

PPC in mainstream is better because the conversions are WAAAY lower. 1:8 is the norm if you know how to write ads.

It's just easier. I'm not saying there's no money in porn, because there is, but if you are starting out you are better off spending the learning curve time learning how to work mainstream.

Porn is a business in decline. It's not growing. In a few year's times things are going to look a bit different.

In mainstream a good site can be sold for several years revenue. In porn, that same level of site will get you 2 months revenue.

Think about it.

I'll have to do some hardcore reading and seriously start thinking about spending at least 10% of my time on working on mainstream sites, there're like gazillion advantages in that - porn can get hit by some fucked-up law and basically I'll be left with no incmome....

One thing that makes the porn industry unique is the access noobs have to large players/deals:

GFY+ICQ= all the access you should ever need. Be smart about that. Don't waste people's time. Hit them up for 2 reasons only- business and business.

Oh yeah, and test, test, test. You won't know what works best off hand. And other people's traffic/sites, etc. will perform differently than yours. So trust data.
