Charge by SMS?

Is there any sponsor out there that can charge the buyer through Cellphone SMS's?

I'm just curious.. :winkwink:

Dax 08-26-2002 06:33 PM

That seems to be big and popular in Europe....

dinkz 08-27-2002 04:13 AM

Yeah, it is... that's why i wonder if anyone has thought of it in the states.. Is there anyone who has tried it?

dinkz 08-27-2002 04:44 AM

It works well in sweden atleast... but i guess it would be hard to charge big amounts of money.. as no one want's a sms for $30?

pipp 08-27-2002 05:49 AM

It works. It is used widly in scandinavia. But the largest amounth for 1 transaction any provider off theses solution would carge is 30.0 NOK (4$) non recurring. I dont find it worth the time unless you put somthing like this in front off a tgp and charge surfers this to view the tgp for like 1 week. hmm pay tgp did I just give out an idea??? hmm ??? Awwwh I lost it what was I talking about again ?

In sweden there's no problem with prepay cards... no problems at all

Maybe someting like a fee per gallery could be something?
Like "Get these 5 imagesets for only $2!"

Could that possibly work?

There is one problem with prepaid cards. When the credit on the prepaid card is lower then the recurring charge, the phone can't be billed.

DynaSpain:

If you have a prepay phone (pay as you go), you can have $0 credit, and still get a membership.

You cannot collect from them if they have a $0 balance.

I believe current programs factor this into their outpayments.

Richard.

Is it your gallery? If it is, does it convert well?
It seems like a great way to charge by SMS!

This is what I meant....how about relaying sms services.....I send
sms to operator by phone/internet and operator is relaying sms?
You can't bill those either.

Another problem I see is collecting the money with all the different
operators.....Really I hope this will get better since I'm for sure
interested in it....but I have heard some horror stories already
from reliable persons....so forgive me my concerns and sceptism.

I read somewhere that the % of cell phone users in the USA was way lower then in Asia & Europe.

miob 08-28-2002 05:52 AM

yeah that's right, in europe is more users with mobile phone like USA, i tried to sms-reverse.com and i've got very good results, i think this could works much better like SU sponsors,
I've got two users and they both tooks membership for 30 days,
there is very hard to collect those members, but if You get one member, this member is worth more than classic signup, i think a lot of sponsors could arrange this opportunity to their paysites, it would be awesome to offer memberships also through this way,
we could earn at least half more...:rasta

You missed. The Spain and Netherlands End User Charge can't be in UK Pounds. It's in EURO.
And Belgium rates are available as well according to volume (SMS messages per month)
If you have a really big website or webmaster program, these rates are subject to change (READ: more money).
Feel free to ask me anything on ICQ: 159325637

Here are my new rates:
UK End User Charge Inc. VAT: £1:50
(£1.00 £1.20 also possible)
Spain End User Charge Inc. VAT: ?1.04
Netherlands End User Charge Inc. VAT: ?1.10

UK Webmaster Payout
Vodafone : £0.69
BTCellnet (O2) : £0.69
One to One (T-Mobile) : £0.56
Orange : £0.55

Spain Webmaster Payout
Telefonica Moviles Movistar : ?0.42
Amena : ?0.31
Airtel Movil (Vodafone) : ?0.26

Netherlands Webmaster Payout
KPN Telecom : ?0.38
Ben : ?0.37
Libertel : ?0.21

At the moment ? and $ are almost equal. Today it's $0.99 for ?1. Tomorrow it can be the other way around.
