opened just fine for me.... ADVERTISING.... yes.. agree wholeheartedly.

I want affiliates, but in all honesty if I leave my promotion up to them, it's just a crapshoot. I am going to pay for my promotion. We are about 2-3 months away from going all out and at some point I expect that affiliates will be coming to me (sounds presumptuous, but that's what I expect). A good site will attract more customers, and affiliates, but not if I don't get it out there first.

If I don't have the confidence to advertise my own product, why should affiliates? Like they always say, it takes money to make money. So now that we have the equipment to produce, the years of talent, a decent backlog of content, it's time for advertising.

Look forward to working with all of you when we are competing with the big guys.

AtlantisCash 05-18-2007 04:04 PM

some nice articals out there, but sadly i didn't set a virus program, i hope there wasn't shit like that...

Elli 05-18-2007 04:24 PM

No virus for me. Could the flash peel-down ad be triggering some browsers?

So why don't you post any contact info on GFY, OR on your website?!! :D

I was totally ready to hit you up, and be an affiliate that comes to you, but uhhhh.. What do I gotta do, look up your whois? C'mon make it easy for me. Contact info por favor.

Nice :thumbsup

There isn't any virus on the page - it's encrypted javascript for the corner ad there.

MarkTiarra 05-18-2007 08:23 PM

I was wondering what was up with that... I have a code on there that tracks hits too (statcounter.com) and of course the WordPress blog gets spammed to all hell but I guess that's just for the ad it thinks it's a virus.

By the way... found out it's not the page ad. I had someone who got the error check www.sterlingcash.com too which has the same ad and it didn't come up. So it's either the stat counter or something that got stuck on the blog by a spammer somehow.

He was after your contact details... I can't see anything obvious on that site. :)

FYI, also, http://www.sfbucks.com/promotion/promotion.html is 404

Paul Markham 05-20-2007 12:14 AM

The guy who wrote that must come from the "I don't have a fucking clue why people buy porn so need to throw lots of traffic at it" school. :winkwink: {only joking}

It's total BS and http://www.paulmarkhamteens.com is the proof. Getting traffic is the easy part, selling it the tough part. If you can do the second part the first part is so easy an idiot does it. See picture on me. :)

Build a site with good content that has something the surfer needs enough to pay for. (This is the part that fucks most people.) Build some nice tools that everyone else has. Submit it to all the review sites. Go on the boards and tell people about the latest girl you shot. Affiliates will simply sign up and try it because it's new.

Traffic will come, convert and affiliates will continue to promote it.

Sit back and wait for the money to roll in.

If your site is the same as the average porn site on the Net, yes you have to advertise it to death. But the test is whether the traffic converts, if it does then you're sitting pretty, if it does not affiliates will wander off to better pastures.

Funny you should mention that, because I was reserving judgement on the first article, until he gets to the one in which he actually recommends not only where to place advertising, but also what form it should take.

Lord Cadbury (Cadbury's was originally a big chocolate manufacturer in the UK, these days into much more) used to be quoted in the ad world as having said "I don't advertise to sell chocolate. I advertise to keep selling chocolate". That apparently simple statement has many implications.

Advertising of the "our product is good, so buy it" kind, is a hugely inefficient way to generate sales. On the other hand, once your product is known, simply placing its name on an otherwise empty space can be enough. Incentive programs need as much care: even experienced clients like the big fast-food chains have made some enormously expensives mistakes.

The online adult industry is still used to being able to make money too easily, so we see results even although we hire cheap designers and don't worry about the finer points of advertising and promotion. But the amount of money we have left on the table in consequence, doesn't bear thinking about.

I isolated that code and it appears to be a legitimate "peel" ad.

It is double encrypted (maybe more) which certainly makes it look like something a hack may put there.

Your formula is a gross miscalculating, at best. Of course, you know that too, but it's part of your strategy to get more exposure. :)

Thank you, I will post my contact info poste haste.... yes the promotion page is being built.. pain in the ass .php page, but getting there quickly. I am happy to have affiliates use content to build their own pages if they wish for the time being. That seems to be the trend anyway.

Well, most of your post makes sense, but you can't say that it will work for everyone. I think the original post addressed the typical build it and they will come attitude.
