Do you tip the pizza guy/chick?

Do you tip?

I feel fine tipping anywhere thats needdbut i mean what makes a pizza delivery persn worthy of tipping, I mean unless of course your pizza was there right quickly...wich still has not much to do with them really...They get paid... they even get extra already for being delivery as is...

im not saying i dont...I do and I dont... its mixed...i guess the mood im in...but i must prepare for when he arrives...

They get paid for doing what they do..I feel a tip is for exceptional work... such as a good waitress.... this is just work...

what justifies a pizza guy tip? they need a beer and a stogie after work? extortion so they dont spit in your pie?

any thoughts?

Sydney Sin 05-07-2007 01:06 PM

in every service industry there should be tipping.
his service was to bring you the food. a $2 tip is pleanty.

Cyndalie 05-07-2007 01:08 PM

They risk their life by getting in a car to drive food to your home.
You waitress in a resturaunt carries food from the kitchen to your table. you tip her. Why not tip the person who could get killed driving your food to your 'table'.

Besides the fact that if you stiff them, I wouldn't order from them again. Never fuck with the people who serve you food. Lesson #1 from the movie "Waiting"

SxDx 05-07-2007 01:08 PM

if nothing else, most delivery drivers have to pay for their own gas. plus, their hourly wage usually isn't a whole lot more than a waiter or a bartender...very minimal.

good point...I worked my fair share of the service side and I can feel that point... I guess im looking at it a little wrong... service deserves a tip, I guess its what they could possibly do wrong that would merit a low or non existant tip... and higher for exceptional work...

because youre right...they are serving someone... paid or not...

Doctor T 05-07-2007 01:17 PM

I've delivered pizzas for a few different companies. Not one of them ever paid more then min wage. The reasoning was 'you already get paid extra with the tips'. And then the store will charge a 'delivery fee' and people assume the driver gets that, which of course they don't.

I always tip the driver. Usually a buck a pizza seems to be a good tip.

ungratefulninja 05-07-2007 01:22 PM

Around here I think the pizza guys get around $0.25 to $0.50 per delivery and $5.15 per hour. Having to pay for their own gas, I usually give them $3-5.

bobby666 05-07-2007 01:24 PM

i usually give 1 € /pizza

Sharky 05-07-2007 01:26 PM

They save you gas money going to pick it up yourself. You can stay home and drink some more;-)

I tip the same 15-20% I do a waitress. I mean it's usually a $15-20 check. why not throw in $3 for your driver. I can tell you if you tip well, they will go out of their way to do nice stuff for you. One time I called and asked for a 2-liter Dr Pepper and they ran out. To my surprise the guy stopped at Walgreens on the way and picked it up for me... and would take $$ for it!@

Deej 05-07-2007 01:27 PM

very good points.... dude gets a nice tip :)

i knew i felt scroogey

Chris 05-07-2007 01:27 PM

we have a tip jar we keep for when we order in
has 1's and 5's in it

pizza drivers get paid shit plus they gotta pay in my area a % of the gas they use

so always tip em !

Deej 05-07-2007 01:29 PM

yea, I delivered newspapers once....that constant go is hard on your car...

ill tipem a 5 and offer to fix their brakes :thumbsup

BVF 05-07-2007 01:32 PM

Even though I am African-American, and that's against our code, I tip...And I could be on his end getting paid squat to run like a chicken with my head cut off just to bring somebody else some pizza.

I even tipped the lady this Saturday when I was at Sizzler and they don't do squat but bring the food...They don't even have to take the order, nor do they clean off the table when you leave.

dav3 05-07-2007 01:39 PM

Same as tipping a waitress, 20-25%

Against your code... funny

and no shit on the sizzler, last time I was there a couple years ago i noticed thats ame thing... I stopped going to sizzler necause their salad bar has gone to shit...when I was young it was a highlite to go to a sizzler and get the salad bar... nachos n shit along with normal salad...now its piddly shit...be lucky to get a raisin and sme chowder...

JP513 05-07-2007 01:44 PM

Absolutely! it's pretty fucking raw:mad: to not tip a food service person just because they deliver food by car and not in a restaurant. Only assholes stiff service people.

You usually don't have to tip on a 15-20% basis for pizza--the "run" is what matters for them. $2-3 per delivery is fine, but they always appreciate $5, especially if they are delivering more than 2-3 pies. it's the fair thing to do. But always . . . $2 minimum.

CONSIDER:

Pizza drivers have to pay for their own car!
Pizza drivers have to pay for their own gas!
Pizza drivers get minimum wage hourly rates, and therefore are dependent upon tips!

Please tips them, folks. Don't be cheapskates.

ADL Josh 05-07-2007 01:46 PM

you gotta tip the delivery guy..he probably gets minimum wage, not to mention has to pay for his own gas. With the prices of gas if he doesn't get tips he's probably loosing money.

g$$$ 05-07-2007 01:48 PM

yeah...in hs i worked at little caesars for a summer....usually people tip $2-$4. some dont tip. depends on the neighborhood. the worst places to deliver are the dark apt complexes in the back after the sun goes down....some people round up the nearest dollar...i say $2-$4 is a good tip amount.

back then..u just get paid minimum wage..+$0.50 per delivery. u pay for ur own gas...now i would expect it to be more since gas prices went up so much...also...the drivers pay for their own insurance

This thought has deleted this question from my head totally...i always had the lingering mixed feelings.. but that seals it....

and yea...in the long run they are losing money...the car will die... its not as hard core as delivering papers///but i know its abusive on your vehicle...

the one here in PR is rockin...fried and rotisserie chicken (which i gorge myself on), all types of salads, fruit, soups, baked potatoes, nachs, tacos, and plenty of other shit that I couldn't possibly eat including some puertorican dishes...I eat so much at the salad bar that I had to take my slab of ribs home in a carryout box.

Well it can be more hardcore. I have actually done both job from my car, many years ago. Delivery drivers deliver during dinner time, meaning rush hour. Rush hour is hard on the car.

baddog 05-07-2007 01:51 PM

anyone that delivers food to me gets tipped

Isn't the insurance for delivery drivers more than normal also?

Remember, if you don't tip, they will spit on your pizza next time, cheap bastards. :throwup

CDSmith 05-07-2007 01:56 PM

If you're in a hotel and you order room service, do you tip the person who delivers your food? Most people do.

There's little difference between what that person does and what a pizza delivery guy does. Both deliver food to you.

A couple bucks is what they get if they get the food here hot and in a timely manner. Unless of course there is a delivery fee added to my order, which a few places do. I don't pay a fee AND pay a tip, it's one or the other.

HighSociety 05-07-2007 01:57 PM

of course you do, when we go golfing I probably tip 3-4 people before I get to hit a fucking ball

djroof 05-07-2007 01:58 PM

always....

james_clickmemedia 05-07-2007 01:59 PM

I give them the change for $20 which is usally around $3 unless the pizza is late....

BAKO 05-07-2007 02:00 PM

I always tip big

cess 05-07-2007 02:00 PM

I tipped the pizza guy $10 not to long ago. It was dark plus I was a bit drunk and thought it was only a dollar until the next day, although I usually give them two bucks. But I remember he almost shit himself he was so happy about it, so it was worth it.:thumbsup

needlive 05-07-2007 02:04 PM

Whenever I give a bit less they treat me like I killed someone... ok only some of them, usually nice guys bring the food to house.

I think the insurance was the same..(back then)....

never spit on anyones pizza..but u can roll the dough around the floor before u put it in the oven... :thumbsup

Miss Munki 05-07-2007 02:08 PM

Not tipping is bad Karma...

The only time I didn't tip someone, I ended up in a car accident shortly after.

Now I tip EVERYONE, especially people in positions that don't expect it, it makes their day and I get great service.

Jayvis 05-07-2007 02:13 PM

Drivers around here make $15 an hour according to a sign I just saw for Dominos on the way home. I usually give em two bucks... call me cheap if you want!

mikeyddddd 05-07-2007 02:17 PM

Always...

I might be wrong, but that $15/hr is probably an average of what the drivers usually make w/ tips

WebairGerard 05-07-2007 02:25 PM

hell yeah, always tip them.

Mr. Romance 05-07-2007 02:26 PM

I do not believe in tipping...I believe in over tipping. Yes

Mr. Romance

BigCashCrew 05-07-2007 02:29 PM

I usually tip them $4-$5 bucks every time.

that is what they make on AVG with tips LOL, there is no way they would get paid that from Dominos

shermo 05-07-2007 02:35 PM

A 5 spot works.. They went out of their way to bring me food, and gas isn't cheap!

Strickie 05-07-2007 02:43 PM

I tip the person $3-$5 for delivering me food

starpimps 05-07-2007 02:48 PM

2-4 bucks thats IF my pizza doesnt come in like an hour and its cold

CaptainHowdy 05-07-2007 02:54 PM

Yep... $ 1 per each $ 10 I spend.

newspapers, about 200-300 in an hour, 530am-630am.

pizzas deliveries, 4-6 during peak hours, drivers do better if they can make 2-3 stops per trip leaving the store. but even just one can be ok.....if people tip. 2 deliveries per trip is like a hedge against bad tippers.:Oh crap

Was around 5pm-whenever, 9pm, 1am, etc.

Kimo 05-07-2007 02:58 PM

I always tip $3-$5 for pizza/delivery

$1 does not cut it anymore with the way gas prices are and everything else

NaughtyRob 05-07-2007 03:04 PM

Of course you tip them. I usually tip high. $4-$6.

sicone 05-07-2007 03:06 PM

Always tip

They are providing you a service.

If the service is fucked off.... remember, a small tip is more insulting then no tip.
