[Labret] 08-17-2002 12:12 AM

Damn, not a bad list there.

Esp the Professional. Great flick. Probably my number one favorite of all time.

I have to add,

Full Metal Jacket
PI
Goodfellas
Dumb and Dumber
The Other Sister
Braveheart

roseyrid 08-17-2002 12:48 AM

Road Trip
Freddy Got Fingered

I like dumb humor :)

[Labret] 08-17-2002 12:49 AM

I want to murder Chris Tucker.

SpaceAce 08-17-2002 12:54 AM

I've seen most of these. I own The Professional (Leon), Goodfellas and Braveheart.

Here's a movie that has to be on any list of "interesting" movies: Shallow Grave. That movie is A-1 freaky but very good.

Some others:
I Went Down
Ravenous
The Game
The Dark Crystal
Rounders
The Usual Suspects
Best Seller

hatebreed 08-17-2002 12:58 AM

Kick ass movies that made me think:

- Bladerunner
- Fight Club

- Platoon
- Planet of the Apes (1968)

Everyone knows I love ultra low-budget horror flicks with budgets smaller than Lensman's car payments, but here is a list of flicks that I like but have a little more general appeal :)

PI (math + religion + Darron Aronofsky = one fucked up flick)
Requiem For A Dream (Jennifer Connelly + double dildo with sleazy hooker + Ellen Burston giving one of the few performances that ever made me fucking cry + Darron Araonofsky = Fucking rent this TODAY if you ahven't seen it)
Leon (The Professional)
Run Lola Run
Welcome To The Dollhouse (Tod Solandz must have one seriously fucked up childhood)
Glengarry Glen Ross (best moviie about salesmen I've ever seen)
Boiler Room (light version of GGGR)
The Grifters (Damn, I love flicks aout people scamming others and mindfucks)
Trading Places (I still laugh at this even after watching it every other day that it's on Comedy Central)
The Cube (one of the most original horror movies I've seen in a long time)
Trainspotting
Gummo (Harmony Korine is one fucked up Hombre)
Kids (Harmony Korine is one fucked up Hombre Part 2)
Super Troopers (laughed my nuts off)
Ravenous (cannibal calverymen)
the original Rollerball (fuck that lame updated piece of shit)
Death Race 2000
Slap Shot (funniest fucking hockey movie ever made)

go to your video store and get all of those now :)

Part 2 coming soon ;)

boneprone 08-17-2002 02:00 AM

Am I the only one that found Superman II
to be a great movie?

boneprone 08-17-2002 02:01 AM

im a simple man.
I still watch the A-Team and crave Battle Star Galatica

Pornwolf 08-17-2002 02:06 AM

Don't forget Miami Vice on TNN!

I see most of the movies have been covered here that I like. Especially The Professional. You guys have to check out Brothers. It's about a Japanese Yakuza dude who comes to L.A. and starts killing everyone and taking their turf. There's a lot of in your face violence that you don't expect. Great flick!

phogirl69 08-17-2002 02:11 AM

My favourites of all time

Cruel Intentions
A Walk To Remember
Clueless
She's All That
Legally Blonde

If you guys are talking about shows, then my faves would be

Melrose Place
Models Inc
American Idol
MTV channel and the E channel
V.I.P

SpaceAce 08-17-2002 02:33 AM

Damn, SykkBoy, that's pretty close to a list I would post.

PI was cool, but I don't know about mass appeal.

Leon is a little twisted but has some kickass camera work and two of the best characters I've seen. Leon is especially good if anyone wants to see what Natalie Portman looked like as a little kid :)

Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt). This movie is... interesting. I think it would help if you understand German. The English voice track is pretty bad. Still, the movie is definitely different and that's good.

Glengarry Glen Ross is a great flick. I love Jack Lemmon (R.I.P). If you like that you might also like Tin Men.

Boiler Room: pretty good to watch. The thing about Vin Diesel is that he's either really good or really bad (as an actor). He's both in this movie. Sometimes he seems a little lame but when he's acting out the scene from Wall Street, he's awesome. Not the best flick, but I've got it on VHS for rainy days :)

Grifters = slightly depressing but good. If you like scam flicks, get The Sting, Rounders and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Oh, yeah, and The Spanish Prisoner.

Trading Places is hilarious. I love when Santa is trying to off himself.

The Cube is a good movie. It caught me by surprise. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING my girlfriend chooses to rent SUCKS. She got lucky on this one, though. After the first fifteen minutes, I was hooked. Talka bout low budget! But they made it work for them and the movie definitely excercises the brain cells.

Trainspotting: What a flick. Ewan McGregor when he still had bad teeth (see also Rogue Trader). Sick Boy was a great character and this movie plus The Full Monty (and now Ravenous) made me a Robert Carlyle fan.

Ravenous... talk about your dark comedies. I was totally unprepared for how amusing this movie would turn out to be. This is the first movie I've seen in a while that impressed me by being better than I expected. That almost never happens, anymore :(

Death Race 2000: Sylvester Stallone, David Carradine, cars with teeth on them and a game that gives points for mowing down pedestrians. What more could anyone want?

Other good movies:

Some Like it Hot
Double Indemnity (the old one)
Any Twilight Zone episode (but especially To Serve Man, The Printer's Devil and Of Late I Think of Cliffordville).
Malcolm X
American History X
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Romancing the Stone
Snatch

SpaceAce

dikkechill 08-17-2002 02:41 AM

Yeah lock stock is one i forgot , thx Space boy for naming that one. Snatch was a good movie too, but i liked Lock Stock far more.

-Boundock saints
-gone in 60 seconds
are 2 would like to add to my list . Boundock saints is a F*cking GREAT movie

cya

jollyperv 08-17-2002 03:06 AM

Flash Gordon (If you can get past the blatant homosexual references, this movie is cool)

Red Dawn
BeetleJuice
Goonies
Ferris Bueler's Day Off
Mad Max & the Road Warrior (Skip Thunderdome)
Dune (Not the remake)
Lord of the Rings
Evil Dead
Army of Darkness
Dead Alive
Texas Chainsaw Masacre
Caddyshack (My Favorite)
Blazing Saddles
Spaceballs

Pretty Generic List, but eh...

Pornwolf 08-17-2002 03:17 AM

Whoa! You guys are reminding me of some great films that I forgot! Death Race 2000!!! I loved that movie. I havent seen it since the 80's. Flash Gordon was great too. I was too young to catch the ghey references. Back in those days I thought the Village People were really policemen, construction workers, indians, navy dudes, and a weird guy with a leather hat!

Cannonball Run
Ferris Bueller (taught me how to get through school!)
Lock Stock...
Night Of The Living Dead
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Blade Runner
Risky Business
Wall Street
Star Wars
The History Of The World Part II
The Main With 2 Brains
Fletch
Casino

Huh - Looking at his bio, I saw that he worked with Quentin Tarantino at a video store back in the '80s.

I bet Roger is pretty pissed off.

I have to strongly dissagree with you there.

The New York Film Critics named A Clockwork Orange the Best Film of 1971, and Kubrick Best Director. It earned four Oscar nominations, for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

This is one of my all time favorites - A definate classic.

damn right...Mario Bava is a god, he and Argento got me hooked on giallo films and Italian horror...

Fletch, let's talk about doing a horror film festival at the next show :)

I could list another 100 or so movies I think everyone should see :)

I left off favorites like A Clockwork Orange, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exoricst, etc. because I'm sure there was another similar thread to this where I listed those :)

I still dare anyone here to sit through Samson Vs. The Supreme Dictator From Outer Space....I've sat through it over 50 times and I don't think anyone else close to me has ever sat through it more than once (some didn't even make it past the opening muscal number by the guy in the wig that chjanged positions on his head with every different camera angle......

"green is the color of spring in the springtime, but then it's brown in the autumn months..." Hmmm, time to raid the video shelf again :)

Ooh, my new Special Edition DVD of Plan 9 From Outer Space should be in today, too

I live right at the edge of everyones dreams in Hollywood, meaning my video store isnt your normal video store. The video store I go to is like an old school punk shop full of shitty vinyl cept its all shitty movies that didnt make it, I swear its the best. Some movies are just in black and white homeade slip cases, killer gore and psycho thrillers made right around here.

I have a friend who is a video editor as I have mentioned many times on this board, and he is a member of the New Orleans Independent Film Festival peeeps... tons of good horror that not many people see.

Ive been collecting Horror movies a long time ago when I was like 11 getting into the Misfits in the mid 80's ;)

SykkBoy 08-17-2002 12:37 PM

When I finally retire from this business, I want to own a videostore specializing in hard to find movies and movies that the others can't/won't/don't carry....probably won't make a whole lot of money, but will be something I enjoy.

Fletch XXX 08-17-2002 12:38 PM

Oh ps. Plan 9, must have Golden Turkey flick.

\I am a huge bela fan, and even bring the old guy flowers on Halloween.

His grave is in the same hill as Sharon Tate.

I have pics somwhere....

Culver City, Holy Cross Cemetary.

Fletch XXX 08-17-2002 12:42 PM

Yeah, Wild at Heart rocked especially Laura Dern talking to Nic Cage and saying "I love the taste of your cock"

wow, another GFYer who knows Kitano's work?? I fucking loved Battle Royale (kids dumped off on an island fitted with exploding neck collars and must fight to the death until there is only one left), Gohatto and Gonin

Ah, happiness, Tod Solandz' followup to Welcome To The Dollhouse....he has serious issues ;)

evildick 08-17-2002 02:01 PM

Most of the my favourites have already been mentioned. Here's a couple more goodies that you might not have seen:

"The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins and some Baldwin guy. I thought it was going to suck but it didn't.

"The Thing" the John Carpenter remake. Best special effects ever. No crappy computer-generated shit here.

"Deliverance" What's not to like about retarded hillbillys and a Ned Beatty anal rape scene? It doesn't get any better than that.

boldy 08-17-2002 02:08 PM

Well here's my top list

Pulp Fiction
True Romance
Killing Zoe
Four Rooms
Casino
Goodfellas
Sheep lover 3 :eek7
Trainspotting
Acidhouse
Once upon a time in America
The shining
Clockwork orange

SpaceAce 08-17-2002 02:09 PM

Bay of Blood started out OK, but the sound quality was very poor on the DVD I watched and the movie got a little weird, with a lot of hippy love type shit and people just dying randomly.

Man, I was starting to think I was the only one who liked Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels more than Snatch. Snatch was good, Lock was better. I must have watched it ten times in the first three days I owned it because it just blew me away. It has maybe the best soundtrack (as far as the music fitting the movie) that I have ever heard.

Here's an awesome movie I may just go pop in the DVD player right now: The Hustler. It finally came out! It used to not be available on DVD OR VHS. It just came out in the last few weeks.

Long live Paul Newman!
