more than 3/4 of those don't even DJ anymore, they bring laptops and play sets they recorded on the plane on the way there using Ableton or such

..and most of them make their own music, but it is still a fan vote. Fans rule.

well, of course they make their own music, but once you go from actually mixing music on the spot to prerecording your sets because fans are too stupid to know the difference, you are no longer a dj...whether the idiots in the crowd notice or not

btw, you are right about one thing, fans rule....simply because most of the time they are stupid mindless idiots that will believe anything they are told

ask any artist/dj/musician who isn't an egomaniac, they will tell you the same thing

it is a shame too, because there is so much undiscovered talent that can whoop so many big dj's asses on the decks, but will never get known because crowds want the same, over and over again

and it is getting worse, look at the new dj's on the scene each year now compared to 2000....less and less new dj's make it into worldwide eyes because of the sheeple that keep wanting the same, over and over again

Yeah, it's hard to keep up these days. You can check out THEDJLIST.COM, he has the top 100 based on fan votes, and I have some bios and podcasts on my favs (like 25 or so) on my blog, with touring schedules.
It's a huge industry now.
