Should EVERY party be open to everyone?
 

lots of people I don't know have been giving me heck about not allowing everyone to come to my event.

We intensionally keep it small and with interesting guests cause most of you arn't worth our time.

This happens with the AVN shows, too... the loudest complainers don't even attend. I don't really understand it.

The host has the right to invite who ever he chooses and anyone who bitches about it is just sad they are not on the list... :2 cents:

Whoever is paying the bills makes the rules. If they don't like it, tell them to screw off.

It's your party and you can do what you like.

I think invite only works really well for smaller, intimate gatherings (say 100 or less). When you start getting into larger events (with space, say, for 25% of all attendees) you start to have problems of exclusion.

The funniest ones are companies that have "invite only" parties, but print up about 20 times more invites than there is space inside the event. The only people who actually get in are the ones with true "VIP" access cards.

Second funniest? The ones that put "VIP" on every pass... and then only let in the people with "GOLD" cards or whatever.

If you want to have a public event but limit access, those are the best ways to do it.

I used to work with coors light on some events... Silver cruises coors light...

They used to have VIP passes for everyone... and Super VIPs.

I don't bother with passes. I gave a guest list and enforce it. Have in the past and will at this event again :2 cents:

There are plenty of other parties open to the masses. Anybody who hates on you for having a more private event is either jealous or just pissing in the wind.

I don't really understand why you don't keep your private party private! Why the need to announce it publicly that you're having a private party!

i have a rule from the nightclub biz and is one of the things i live by

whoever puts up the loot for the gig = who makes the list for entry.

An open party is like an open field.

Dandelions may be beautiful flowers. But you have to weed them out if you're trying to grow roses.

Ahh,m but you see... there is only value in being able to prove that you are l33t. If a tree falls in the forest... or if a webmaster goes to a party private enough that nobody knows... it has the same result.

not saying this is the case, but you might announce it so people that were invited but missed the email might hear about it, thus begin going thru their spam bin

Because most of the idiots in this "business" never grew out of the high school mindset.

When the folks that complain want to plan and pay for an awesome party... then they can invite whomever they want to attend and talk about where ever they want.

I completely AGREE!! I didn't ask to go (nor am I asking by this comment) If a host is throwing a party, paying for drinks, entertainment (however large or small) it is that host's exclusive right to allow whom ever they want!:2 cents:

I think its the hosts right to invite anyone they want but doing a few threads about it, which is like blah blah im better than you isnt necessary and Sleazy knows better he is a smart guy.

I can't believe this is even an issue. I would of course love to attend, but I'd like to at least show that I'm worthy and not some hanger on loser (like I probably am right now, heh).

that's a decent response from an intelligent person. You wouldn't believe how many haters come after me expecting me to pay their way and open the doors for them. they they use excuses to try and hide the obvious like it's rude to post this or rub it in people's faces.

when i couldn't get into the higher end events I was happy to at least have a clue they existed and what was going on. Gave me something to strive for.
