DomBuyer 03-08-2007 02:15 AM

58 degrees.

aico 03-08-2007 02:15 AM

room temp, or 60 - 68 F

pr0 03-08-2007 02:16 AM

room temperature it is!

pr0 03-08-2007 02:17 AM

has kind of a vinegar taste to it....wtf?

aico 03-08-2007 02:17 AM

should taste great, 10 years is good aging.

smack 03-08-2007 02:17 AM

i prefer my red's around room temperature.

white's slightly chilled, but not cold.

what kind of glasses are you using for the caberet?

i usually prefer bordeux or goblet style glasses for caberet. gives it room to breath.

either the wine has peaked a while ago, or you're not letting it breath enough.

pr0 03-08-2007 02:18 AM

I'm drinking it straight out the bottle....cmon smack :pimp

Mike Semen 03-08-2007 02:19 AM

Yup room tem. Let it breathe for a good 20 mins.

smack 03-08-2007 02:19 AM

haha, well there is your problem. you gotta let red wines breath before drinking them.

so can i still crank it without getting sick or what?

Sexsitesurfer 03-08-2007 02:19 AM

Also you should check as some reds are meant to be served below room temperature, but not chilled. You need to research it, but that's what I remember.

pr0 03-08-2007 02:20 AM

ok it tastes a "little" better now that i've poured it into a glass,...i'll let it "breathe" for 20 mins

Yes, it's past it's prime and has turned. You can cook with it, will make some nice red sauce with penne.

Pour it in a glass, let it set for 5 - 10 min, might help also.

smack 03-08-2007 02:23 AM

give it a few good swirls in a nice wide glass.

take a sniff to check out the nose of the wine.

if it smells good, give it a sip, if not, give it another swirl and let it sit and breath for a second.

pr0 03-08-2007 02:24 AM

ok....all "wine gods" information aside...if it has gone past its prime

whats the worst that can happen drinking it?....I'm out of beer here...

you won't get sick if that's what you're worried about. You might have a nasty hangover though.

pr0 03-08-2007 02:25 AM

pr0 03-08-2007 02:27 AM

white wine generally doesn't need to age. Lasting over 10 years for a white it pretty good.

this kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with the royal wedding cake :1orglaugh

only its a redneck with multiple bottles of old ass wine :pimp

com 03-08-2007 02:50 AM

room temp; ~68 let it breath for about 15 minutes before pouring. make sure the glass is big enough for you to get a nosefull of the aroma first! Enjoy my man!

DomBuyer 03-08-2007 03:05 AM

All these wine experts. LOL

A '96 Cabernet needs to breathe at least an hour, but it sounds like it's too late. Too bad. :)

Ya, so if you ever want to enjoy this wine at a restaurant, call them at least an hour early so they can open it for you and let it breath for an hour.
