The Downside of Success. Are You Successful?

-A few words to those who are trying to find success in this industry or in life. These are actual quotes from people who have dealt with or are dealing with success. I found all of these on the net in 5 minutes. Just thought it was interesting to read experiences from others who are dealing with some of the "negative" things that success can bring.

------------
The more successful you become, the more people there are who don?t like you. If you?re not fighting with someone you?re doing something wrong.

The more successful you become, the more likely you are to meet hateful and hurtful men. Prepare yourself now, so you will not be surprised when it happens.

The fact is the more successful you become, the more you will be criticized.

The more successful you become, the more people want to see you fall.

The more successful you become, the more some people will resent your success.

The more successful you become, the more people want to become like you.

The more successful you become, the more people who will dislike you because of it.

The more successful you become, the more critics you will have. Get used to it.

The more successful you become, the more you have to deal with people who hate you for one reason or another. It?s a sad statement on the human condition.

The more successful you become, the more enemies you make. I think one has to be strong. If I were not strong I would have been broken a long time back."

------------

Are you successful? How do you deal with things like this? Why do successful people have these kinds of problems? What makes a human being go after another human being who is trying to achieve something better for themselves? Is it jealousy? Is it lack of human compassion? What is it?

Jealousy plays a part... although I'm not sure it is simple jealousy so much as other peoples' successes are reminders of one's own failures. But the main factors are whether you are perceived to have earned your success and how you handle it.

The latter is probably the most important. There are any number of successful people who are generally liked and respected. Although the media in particular likes to highlight the people who are constantly attacked, they are relatively few in number and it is hard to escape the view that most get no less than they deserve.

The only group I can think of which was pretty much universally despised, were the yuppies of the 1980's. What was there not to despise?

True words.

The boards and this industry has it's fair share of those that feel they should be more successful than they are, and those that can not help you in any way improve your business or make more money. Most cannot make a living in adult, and a bit of the frustration is due to the fact that it's played off every day as there being easy money in adult.

The sad thing is that most of the hating and jealousy is without reason, because perceived success and actually being successful are two completely different things. There's the strong reality that many of the 'players' here (on GFY) won't be around in another year or two. Probably not even in the adult industry at all.

Anyone with any shread of business sense would be a fool to base their decisions off the boards, or off the second hand experience of someone they do not know personally.

And to clarify, i'm not saying there is not good information to be found on the boards. There are some great diamonds in the rough and advice that ocassionally slips out.

one of the reasons i dont openly showcase my success..

but it is also a two way street i think, some with success are happy to share their "secrets" wheras some keep that to themselves 100% and i think those are more prone to the harmful criticism..

aico 03-05-2007 03:43 PM

no wonder no one likes me.

Yeah, although most of those quotes are true, they are very pessimistic. Those quotes are not the way I choose to view success.

I see all the mentioned items as challenges. Challenges make me stronger and make me want to succeed even more. When I was younger I had a few challengers inside my own family that didn't think I could do this or that. I used them to my advantage and I did exactly what they said I could never do.

The Duck 03-05-2007 06:05 PM

im not succesful so I have no clue

LiveDose 03-05-2007 06:22 PM

Good list. In a nutshell, when you become successful and people know it they will be jealous. I agree.

CuriousToyBoy 03-05-2007 06:30 PM

Envy is one of the 7 deadly sins for a reason .....

I think those quotes are very accurate. I read somewhere that envious people, even those who you think are friends, are really dangerous, silent enemies, as they are always hoping you fail.

Why do you think most people aren't successful in the adult industry?
