SERIOUS QUESTION: Why do most film directors have beards?

Is it like a gentleman's agreement or something? Is it a biological thing - don't even attempt to become a director unless you can grow a substantial amount of facial hair?

Some of the best ever all had beards - Kubrick, Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas, Attenborough, Cameron (for a while), and the newest members are Mel Gibson and Peter Jackson.

Why is this?

Saves them time not to shave everyday?

Interesting.

My theory is that they are around beautiful people all the time and feel self conscious so they grow beards to hide their faces.

They are also sensitive to beauty because of what they do, so their own appearance is hard for them to take.

its the closest job to being a webmaster there is.....they just sit there all day staring at shit and being dicks.....you just have to catch them on their quarterly grooming session :2 cents:

It's to catch crumbs so they can eat them as snacks later.

It is the fashion...........:)

There is also the fact that when you're making a movie, you're working 18 to 20 hours a day non-stop. Grooming becomes a luxury more than a necessity more often that not.
