Any other Americans "Not" celebrate Thanksgiving?

I don't. I have my own reasons that would cause a troll frenzy here, but for all intents and purposes I do not celebrate this wretched holiday.

Anyone else gonna be working the next two days that live in the U.S.?

fallenmuffin 11-22-2006 09:42 AM

I come from Native American (Cherokee) heritage. Even though the pilgrims came here and raped, pillaged, and robbed my people. I still celebrate. You've got to remember this is 2006. We don't take things seriously anymore. Thanksgiving is about food, family, and inflatable Snoopy's.

Embrace the family and food... Even if you can't stand the little bastards. Because soon that'll be all you have and you won't have them for long.

:thumbsup

Any reason for giving up the chance to eat turkey and all the good things that come with a holiday is lame.

Jman 11-22-2006 09:48 AM

Please tell us why, cause I would REALLY like to see the reaction of this board in regards to the reason you are not thankfull on that day ;-)

You did open the can and now we are all wondering why???

Don't leave us in the dark man :-(

reynold 11-22-2006 09:49 AM

It's just a simple thanksgiving event; it's not so demanding. I don't find any reason not to celebrate it.

Z 11-22-2006 10:07 AM

Thanksgiving and Christmas both are just reasons to get together with your family, eat 'til you can't stand and then sleep through your family's bickering.

Happy fucking thankkuahistmas.

E$_manager 11-22-2006 10:20 AM

Tell us about that reason. Please.

nah, its not something that just anyone is going to accept. if you haven't done the research and know the facts about it all, then its not worth me trying to teach everyone. besides, i'm not gonna rain on other peoples holidays.

:)

BitAudioVideo 11-22-2006 10:35 AM

so long as the cowboys play, i will celebrate.

schneemann 11-22-2006 10:36 AM

I don't believe in Jesus, but I celebrate X-Mas.
I don't agree with the wholesale slaughter of Native Americans, either, but I celebrate Thanksgiving.

These are holidays that, to me, represent gathering together of friends & family, enjoying the comraderie & love of that togetherness.

What happened almost 400 years ago means shit to me compared to that.

I do not 'celebrate' any 'holidays' I am not a pagan so all days have the same value to me . . I do however acknowledge my child's birthday with a phone call or card

BradM 11-22-2006 10:38 AM

I am Canadian, but now am thrown into the whole US thanksgiving craze. We never celebrated it growing up. I don't even understand what the historical significance is to be honest. And I don't really care.

You must belong to the flat-earth society too.

What is that, a tinfoil hat you're wearing?

Tom_PM 11-22-2006 11:06 AM

I'll take tomorrow to sleep in a bit and cook all day and eat and watch parades and football as usual. I plan to work friday but maybe sleep in a bit if possible. We have a great promo day on friday, so I want to be available.

responses like this are part of the reason that i don't go into details.

just keep believing what people teach you. its pointless to learn yourself on anything. :thumbsup :)

So if I don't believe in the Easter Bunny, can I still celebrate Easter? :winkwink:

munki 11-22-2006 11:11 AM

What, and lose 24 hours of precious productivity time?

Wigga cheese...

Ain't happening. I'm working straight through, hopefully my girl will bring me back some turkey...

seeric 11-22-2006 11:14 AM

i've never been much of a holiday person really. even as a child it all seemed too retail to me. i do not humbug those around me though. i go to dinners and engage in conversation and i'm sure one day will raise my kids with holidays. they can form their own opinions as they see fit. i won't try to sway them either way. my beliefs are that and i don't force them on anyone else.

see post 16 for the reason thread was started.

yeah. kids deserve to have those times. i remember how much fun it was to go to bed and not be able to sleep because i knew that santa clause was coming with things. i didn't stop that kinda thing till like 15 though, so i guess i did in fact have a pretty holiday based childhood.

:)

I just enjoy the gathering of my family and friends since thru the year most are really buzy to sit and catch up with for a few hours at a clip.

plus, I am *VERY* thankful this year for a few things:
- Biz has hit a record high for 2006.
- New projects completed that were on my whiteboard here.
- 2007 looks to be on schedule for what I want to undertake biz wise.
- My house is just about done being built. (90% there)
- Republican party looks like they are on the way out finally.
- New office was completed in 2006 here.

Its all about being thankful.

ADL Colin 11-22-2006 11:57 AM

I like ham

Kimmykim 11-22-2006 12:02 PM

Last year I went to Paris during the holiday, this year we've had to put off the NZ trip for a week or so, but I didn't make any plans for tomorrow. I think it will actually be nice not to have to do anything for a change.

xNetworx 11-22-2006 12:05 PM

Airek... at least eat like a slob.. u be skinnies

Sly 11-22-2006 12:12 PM

Most every civilization has conquered, slaughtered, raped, and pillaged in the name of expansion. I could really care less.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Good food, fun, no stress about presents, etc. Hell yeh I celebrate.

Catalyst 11-22-2006 12:16 PM

i was just wondering this question myself

rodney25 11-22-2006 12:22 PM

We just ran out of Turkey here. I am not sure if it's still worth celebrating. :(

yeah buddy, i am not trying to be the guy thats bah humbug. i guess i mean officially i still do things in the name of productivity. i go through the motions if it happens, but i don't make it a point to go out and make stuff happen.

happy day to ya. enjoy it.

RevSand 11-22-2006 01:17 PM

Hate the holidays but its the only time of year I see some of my family so I put up with it and put on a good face to go and overeat.

micker 11-22-2006 01:37 PM

I dont do any holidays really.. I'll be working. I prefer to take my holidays when I choose to take them, not when everyone else does.

This is bad. :( Happy thanksgiving day to you still. :) Hope for Christmas the situation would be better. :winkwink:

are you afraid someone is going to disagree with you? dont bite your tongue for anyone.

bellybuttonlint 11-22-2006 06:15 PM

<~never celebrates the day the whiteman set forth his plan to slaughter and rob the native american indian

nah, not really man, i just don't feel the need to argue with a bunch of armchair historians. its hard to let go what the civil education system and churches have taught you from a child.

i can't expect anyone to take any sort of advice from me so why bother. that's basically the reason. if i wanted to argue, i'd go home for the thanksgiving holiday. that's always fun.

i basically spent a very decent portion of my life studying my ancestors history and researching and educating myself on the so called discovery of the country and the "purchase" of it from the indians. i'm not a teacher and i don't fee obligated to explain it on a porn board where some of the most opinionated know it alls on the planet reside.

basically thats why.

i could care less if people disagree with me on things. i flagrantly refuse to accept ignorance as a defense to responses though.

:)

happy thanksgiving to the believers though, i didn't start this to ruin your days.

peace to all.

meoowwww.

selena 11-22-2006 08:18 PM

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It is about togetherness, and outside of the cost of the meal, it doesn't cost anything.

Well how bad could it be?

I've had my Thanksgiving trauma. In 1980 I was one of those people who got hit by one of the live turkeys dumped out of the helicopter by WKRP

Was that Thanksgiving? I'd think THAT Day would have come a little bit later. Like the first day the whiteman NEEDED some food and only the Indians had some.

minusonebit 11-22-2006 08:31 PM

I'll be working. Its just another day... a day when all the banks will be closed and everyone except for me will be doing nothing useful. Holidays are just an excuse for being useless.
