The broadcast of the game clearly showed something on Roger's hand (and let's not forget that Rogers is among the players suspected of playing dirty...using steroids, etc, as well).

He had some dirt stuck to his hand but it looked like he either had a bit of pine tar or something sticky on his hand anf that's why it stuck. Tons of pitchers use any damn thing they can to get that little bit of edge. It's been going on forerever. He did however pitch just fine later but perhaps he kept the sticky shit and got the dirt off it... I dunno. Duncan and Larussa know their shit so if it was soemthing they really suspected as a problem they would have pushed it more.

I just read here where Rogers says it was a "clump" of dirt.
I was watching the game, i seen the spot. It may very well have been pine tar or whatever... but he still pitched the next seven innings allowing only 1 or 2 hits, without the "clump"




Umpire supervisor Steve Palermo told a TV reporter that whatever Rogers had on his hand needed to be cleaned off. The supervisor said it was nothing suspicious, and both managers were alerted.

"There was no formal request made about [Rogers] being inspected," Palermo said after the game. "There was a noticeable dirt mark on his pitching hand, and after the first inning, Alfonso Marquez, the home-plate umpire, asked him to remove the dirt so there wouldn't be any question about any controversy. And I think if you see the following innings, he pitched fine without the dirt."

Not at all. There was a "substance" clearly there.

However, theres no "proof" it was pine tar. Im not saying it wasnt pine tar, lol.

Pitchers have been wiping bugers and everything else on balls for as long as there has been baseball. Maybe he did have some extra pine tar to get a better grip.

BUT ... after the 1st inning, it was gone and Kenny still pitched lights out baseball.
