Damn, how do you tell your parents what your doin?

Not that I am a mommas boy by any means, but it is not very easy to tell my stubborn, religious parents what I do. My Dad doesn't care so much, but I don't know how long till I will be on speaking terms with my Mom, :1orglaugh . They seem to think we are all evil, it's silly I know, but I can't convince them otherwise.

Any of you have problems like this?! Any advice = greatly appreciated! :thumbsup

GrouchyAdmin 09-24-2006 02:46 AM

"Oh god! Get out! Get out! Don't you knock!? Fuck! Don't look at me! Don't loo..." Oh, wait, you meant the porn thing.

"At least I'm not out getting chicks pregnant.. I'm just sharing creampies with the world. Wanna seee?"

Bozena X 09-24-2006 03:02 AM

hahahaha, nice :)

Gaybucks 09-24-2006 03:25 AM

my ex-business partner's parents (Baptist Christian conservatives) found out he was gay AND he was in porn at the same moment. He actually started Boyfunk and was the first model on the site. He stupidly had an AIM screenname of boyfunkdotcom tied to an email address he'd given his family, and his younger sister somehow made the connection and, of course, told his parents.

They totally freaked out. ( I suppose I would too if I loaded a webpage and saw my naked 22 year old son, who I assumed to be straight and a good Christian boy, sporting a raging 9" hardon and sucking the dick of another guy...)

For the first month or two, they tried everything, from "We won't talk to you ever again" to sending Bible verses, to long letters inviting him to repent. Eventually, I think they sort of came around to begrudgingly accept it. He left the business a year or two later because he just got tired of it.

Klen 09-24-2006 03:46 AM

Thats a double whammy

escoman 09-24-2006 04:00 AM

Itīs simple, put up a mainstream site and show them that site and lie you make $$$ from it..

justsexxx 09-24-2006 04:00 AM

Say you had a dream, and God said you should be nice to the people and offer porn for free

sukime69 09-24-2006 04:06 AM

My folks have known for years what I do. Opinions vary within the damily from "disgusting" to "can you get me a password?".

I am lucky to live just about as far away from the family as possible so I dont have to deal with it much,

As for my parents, they are just glad I support myself and dont have to hit them up for money like my brother and sister.

cess 09-24-2006 04:30 AM

If you are that worried, what they don't know won't hurt them.

Gary_TLX 09-24-2006 07:16 AM

It depends what type of folks they are. If you know they wouldn't accept it, then just tell them that you're making money from a mainstream site. If they are a bit more easy going, just let them know and try to explain everything clearly. Many older people associate this type of work with crime and maffia. LOL.

I told my parents a few months ago that I'm producing porn and they were very worried at first, but after I explained to them everyting about how we do what we do and that it's 100% legal, they seemed to calm down, and now accept it for what it is. They don't like it, but they prefer me not lieing to them. :)

Odin 09-24-2006 07:22 AM

Why bother telling them if it will cause conflict? Seriously, just say you build mainstream websites, and manage traffic, noone will know or care.

CashFromClicks 09-24-2006 07:23 AM

Don't tell them. And don't tell anyone who don't know what are you doing.
I tell friends (who are not my online partners) and other people who ask me about my job - i'm just webmaster or designer or "it's not your bussiness man". Thats better then if I tell someone "I'm Fucking Porn King!" I think. :)

fallenmuffin 09-24-2006 07:25 AM

I told my mom... "I sell porn" then showed her the check.. and she said "is it illegal" i said.. "nope".. and that was it..

Vegas Ken 09-24-2006 07:35 AM

Tough one. That is really a question you are going to have to answer yourself. Honesty can be very freeing but telling the truth can have it's consequences. I have friends in the business that tell everyone and others that tell no one. Both scenarios have been fine.

I told just the close important people. The other people just don't need to know. I had some family react very poorly. At times I wish that I did not tell them, but that is just not me. Not telling them would have been more difficult and this way it is out in the open. I truly wish things were different and maybe someday it will be. I have to live my life the way I feel is best. If other people can't deal with it, that is their issue.

I hope that you come to a decision that give you some peace.

Maxxx9000 09-24-2006 07:58 AM

I actually had a huge discussion with my mom last night. She kinda hysterical so she didn't really aprove. But she couldn't come up with a valid reason why selling porn is bad. Then my dad asked me how much money I had made this from it. I flashed my ePass Visa and told them. Then they both shut up:)

So I guess the secret is: Bring a fat check to show and tell at your parrents home. That worked for me:)

fhgmaster 09-24-2006 08:12 AM

I think you should be honest to the people you care about, like family, close friends. Because if you aren't and they somehow find out they might be pissed of twice as much.
First because you are in porn. This might be ok for some people. But they will for sure be disappointed because you lied to them.

jerseygto 09-24-2006 08:14 AM

:warning well even somewhat normal people have a problem with what we do..sooooo you really dont have to tell them anything dooo youuuu? you can always say your in the computer field of just lie and say its a anime sight or something (im mean a speed racer, gundam wing type of anime) i mean some people will just never understand what we do they will use us secretly but never admit it!! lifes a real bitch sometimes aint it??

bausch 09-24-2006 08:29 AM

I don't. Why should I? What I do is none of their business. If I wasn't working in porn I wouldn't tell them exactly what I did either.

That's the reason why I left their house at 18. So I don't have to answer to anyone but myself.

It is none of my parents concern. I am grown and don't need to explain aything to them . Actually I barely see them, so it's not even an issue.(I see them perhaps once every few years, we are not exactly close. This isn't the damn Brady bunch).

Dirty Dane 09-24-2006 08:38 AM

Tell them.
If people love you, then they accept you for who you are, not who they are. Its your life, you don't have to satisfy others.

E$_manager 09-24-2006 08:43 AM

You mean they think that everybody who is workingg in net are devels? Or just doing porn? Tell her you are programmer? Will she understand any difference?

similar story here :upsidedow

Roald 09-24-2006 08:49 AM

my parents know from day 1 (well almost day 1 lol) what I do. They just tell me as long as it is legal why not? Its just a job right.

Guess it depends a bit where you are from though.

scottybuzz 09-24-2006 08:53 AM

:2 cents:

an attitude maybe backfire in your face when your older :2 cents:

Gillespie 09-24-2006 08:56 AM

I suggest using another angle.

Try to explain how hypocritical people are. Nobody watches porn, yet it is a 8-10 billion (Wikipedia) industry in the United States alone...

Pete-KT 09-24-2006 08:56 AM

Both my parents know what I do, my dad doesnt mind at all, actually every time he sees me on the computer he asks if we have any new models he hasnt seen yet, My mom on the other hand she knows what I do but doesnt like it, Shes always telling me to go find a real job since I have my computer engineering degree, to which i respond "Thanks mom I have a real job and I own the company" thats when she shakes her head and walks away :) so they both know and most of my relatives know. the ones that I dont want knowing think i am a software developer

Words to live by: Don't do anything you wouldn't want to see on the front page of your hometown newspaper.
Since I have no qualms with doing what I want I tell anyone that asks the honest truth, if people can't deal with me then that's thier problem not mine.

Good thing I live in a big city where no one knows me, plus I don't have anyone in my life (friends or family) who's opinion would actually matter to me I only have one friend and that person knows what I do ( I don't like to have lots of friends or acquaintances, I'm not sociable) . I have one significant other who knows. Other than that, no one here even knows who I am or cares, so I can do whatever I want.

That's the good thing about being anti-social. You don't know any people so you don't have to worry about what they think :1orglaugh

E$_manager 09-24-2006 09:30 AM

My parent know. They do not care untill it gives me money to live and i do not ask them to help me.

czarina 09-24-2006 09:35 AM

Move out of moms house, and tell them to kiss your ass.

gecko 09-24-2006 01:14 PM

I just tell them I'm in internet marketing

your posts smell of sharp desperation :Oh crap

After Shock Media 09-24-2006 01:35 PM

My conversation went sort of like this.

me: Remember back when I had those phone lines connected to my computer all of the time.
Them: Yeah, you were an odd kid. Never understood why you were so fascinated with that damn thing anyways.
me: Well you remember how I sold role-playing games and stuff to people and eventually turned that into an actual hobby and comic store before I moved out?
Them: Yeah, so that is what the computer thing did, eh?
me: Sort of. In reality it was never that profitable. The profit margin on that stuff was very small and I had to sell at below retail cost to compete with other stores and all.
Them: So how did you end up getting your own store? It wasn't drugs was it?
me: Oh no not drugs. I was making and selling naked pictures and stuff and people would pay me to have access to them on my computer.
Them: You mean to tell us you were making porn?
me: yes.
Them: Was it that profitable?
me: Well the store sure in the hell wasn't. That was just my hobby and well my cover so to speak. It actually cost me money.
Them: Are you still doing it?
me: Yes.
Them: Is it still profitable for you?
me: More so.
Them: Is there anyway we can invest some money into it?
me: No. Not really.
Them: Why not?
me: You always taught me not to do business with family.
Them: laughed.
me: So whats for dinner tonight anyways?

squishypimp 09-24-2006 01:39 PM

DaddyHalbucks 09-24-2006 03:23 PM

Remember all that money I owe you?

Well, it's time to pay you back!

Yes, I am making some money now. It's all thanks to adult."

bl4h 09-24-2006 03:30 PM

My mom is catholic...pretty much raised by nuns

I just tell them internet marketing. Of course, they asked for details, and i just explained mainstream stuff. Cell phones and such.

No problem

My dad I'm sure half figures anyway.. since I have talked to him about opening some strip clubs and what not, my mom has no clue. I think my dad if he knew for sure would ask for passwords lol. It's easier to just keep it hush hush from what I have found.

now is your chance to change thier minds. You can sit them down and explain to them that it is a business and that like any business there are some bad people in it, but that most of the people in the business are just like you. they are normal everyday people that happen to run adult websites. Many of them are married and have families. Let them know that you are not going to do anything that will embarass them. They won't be having someone email them a picture of you blowing a donkey or fucking three midgets. You are just a webmaster. It is no different than if you ran a website selling shoes, only here the shoes are naked chicks.

JD 09-24-2006 07:32 PM
