Heart Surgery done - now I need a little help :)

Good morning - for those that dont know I went through an angioplasty on Wed last week and seem to be doing a little better now - of course now the bills are starting to come in and without insurance Im gonna have to liquidate some domains to pay for these huge bills - the first one just for the operating room usage was right at $8k and Im sure things are going to only get worse

Please see this thread if you need some domains and thanks in advance :)

Have a fantastic day all :thumbsup

Honez 09-05-2006 11:10 AM

Hey sweety! I had no idea you were going in for surgery. Glad you are feeling better though.

V_RocKs 09-05-2006 11:18 AM

You don't have insurance?

If so, what kind left you that kind of bill?

Also, how was the operation? I think I need it done too. Pain? Comfort? etc...

How long is the recovery period?

Mobility after?

And finally, did you get stints put in? If so, and your heart stopped, would chest compressions via CPR damage them?

selena 09-05-2006 11:21 AM

Damn, Linkster, hope you recover and are back to it soon. :) ~hugs~

V_RocKs - I had a heart attack about 5 years ago - since then its been all exercise and food/meds that got me though with no problem

And nope no insurance - they wont touch me after that attack
Recovery is about two weeks at home - although really I dont feel real bad - as far as the stents - they are on the artery - I always carry nitro with me incase I get the chest pains - but not sure about the CPR - although I wouldnt think they would be a problem :)

Can't speak for Linkster, not sure what procedure he had done. Angioplasty starts with a cardiac catheterization. That's where they enter an artery near your groin and meander a tube up into your heart. The tube can also be inserted up your arm or down from your neck.

There is no pain involved typically as you're given drugs. They shoot a dye into the blood stream and you'll feel some warmth in your chest. The doctors get a very clear view with what's going on with your arteries to the heart and if they chose to look, other organs too.

If they see a blockage, they may place a stint (small expandable mesh) to keep your arty open or they may inflate a balloon to compact the material that is clogging your artery.

Thanks to modern medicine you can be in and out of the hospital in the same day. Used to have to lay on your back for hours with a weight on the entry point so you wouldn't bleed to much. Now they use a collagen plug for the insertion point.

The big deal really isn't in the procedure, it is what they find. If you have concerns, this procedure beats a stress test. It paints a clearer picture for your doctors.

Remember that people that have the procedure, start out with a suspected problem. Still the procedure itself has very few complications. I think it is well under 5%.

As for being able to walk etc. It can be the same day. I've left the hospital the same day after one and was able to walk just fine. It would be dumb to go out for a jog. Given the drugs, you'll prolly be headed for a nap soon after you get home.

pussyluver 09-05-2006 02:32 PM

Not sure I would classify angioplasty as surgery? What did they do? Stints, balloon angioplasty? I've had a number of catheterizations. Expensive, what isn't in a hospital? Did by-pass going on a year ago.

Good luck and hope you get to avoid the by-pass operation.

Linkster 09-05-2006 02:41 PM

They installed 3 stents in the main artery - and youre right - although they required me to stay in ICU for 24 hours afterwards - and then I had to do whats called AMA (releasing myself) as they wanted to keep me and frankly I wasnt going to :) (not with the price of one in-hospital meal at $600 - and pretty much inedible at that)
Ive had the caths before so I knew what to expect and hopefully I can avoid the bypass - off to sell more domains to pay for this stuff :)

Anna_O 09-05-2006 02:45 PM

Damn :( Hope you get well soon Linkster :)

Dude, I can't keep up with you now. If you're acting 20 years younger no one will be able to keep up with you.

Sly 09-05-2006 04:10 PM

My grandpa had a similar surgery years ago. He's doing great. Take care of yourself.

Off topic, how does one get access to submit free sites to your LL? Do I have to buy a pass?

THREE STENTs!!!! WOW. You were close to a bypass then??? Any time you're in ICU, you know it's serious. Still better that than having your chest cut open.

The meals got me too. On the cardiac floor and they are feeding me milk, cheese and other stuff I get lectured about NOT to eat. The good news for me was I have insurance.

Once you start this stuff with heart attacks and stents, it is always in the back of your mind -- what next.

Wish you the best.

free4porn 09-05-2006 05:57 PM

Linkster 09-06-2006 03:07 AM

Wow - and good morning :) and thanks for all the well wishes :thumbsup

Pussyluver - I couldnt believe it when they showed up with a tray marked cardiac meal - with fried pork chops :( - thats when I figured it was time to get home and fix my own meals - hell I could hire a hottie to make me salads for $600 a meal :1orglaugh

Trax - not selling the LL but I do have bloggerporn.com up - although I think that may be gone this morning - other than that Ive got a bunch of old domains that have some PR and links but very little traffic and some old sites that have a little traffic - nothing along the lines of the LL or TGP though :)
