Tassy (and other pug freaks)

Just got pug #4. I SWEAR this is the last one - he really needed someone :( Two idiot women tried to breed pugs in their apartment. 2 puppies, first one died. Riley (as in "Living the life of...." since all mine are so spoiled) was taken to a lady who ran a CAT RESCUE :Oh crap group. They told her he was 4 weeks old but she thinks closer to 2 weeks. He had water on the brain, a hole in his heart, parvo, worms, the works. He couldn't even drink through his mouth - she had to tube feed him. But she nursed that fighter back to health :) He's about 4 months old now. I took him to my vet (who also has a pug) today and he said he's in perfect health. Neutering scheduled for 2 months from now and meanwhile he's keeping the other 3 on their feet :)

Ones that are bred by people who don't care about them perhaps. Most breeds of dogs have their issues. None of Riley's problems were because he is a pug. They were because the people that bred him are morons.

OMG, sometimes I wonder what I was thinking :)

It's probably that he's a puppy. I haven't had a puppy in years. Ferd was 1 when I got him and John was around to wear him out. Ariel was 1.5 and she kept trying to get the older pugs (10 and 13) to play with her which is one of the reasons I agreed to take this little sucker.

He is just wild! It took me 10 minutes to get a damn collar on him tonight. He and Ariel play GREAT though and Ferd, even though he can barely walk and is half deaf, showed him who was still the alpha male in the house ;)

He and Ariel are still working on house training issues. I learned a 4 month old puppy can pee 5 times in 30 minutes. I think ONCE was outside. I REALLY need to work on him especially. "Come here" means "Run as fast as you can and hide in places I can't reach you in."

I will split them up when I take them to the vet and groomers - take the older dogs separately from the pups.

And the sad part is that none of them really "do" stairs and I can't let them into the guestroom because that's where the cat box is and they LOVE kitty fudgie yum yum treats, so we're basically in about 600 sq ft of living space. Thankfully I have a nice sized fenced yard.

If you've got the room and the love, go for it!

My 10 year old male was found on the side of the road, heartworms, worms, malnurished, etc. He stroked out a few times during heartworm treatment. I got him when he was 1 and while he's a LOT better about it, he was PETRIFIED of brooms and things like black flashlights. You could tell some asshole puppymill treated him like shit then dumped him because he had an undescended testicle and was sterile. Now he's paralyzed in his back legs due to a cyst on his spinal cord. My vet and I both agreed that since he's in no pain, there's no reason to put him through that kind of operation when he's 10. He just can't feel when he needs to poop, so I do a lot of cleaning up :Oh crap

My 13 year old was in better shape - got her when she was 4. She was an owner turn in and her mother (who was also turned in and is 15 now) was a show dog so she's actually the only one out of my 4 that's up to breed standards. She was being free fed in the garage though and was about 5 pounds overweight and could barely breathe. She's almost completely deaf now and has cataracts, but she's still a tummy rub slut ;)

Peaches 08-24-2006 07:43 PM

Oh, and of course, Ariel, who's 2 now, was very well taken care of but situations changed and she needed a new home :) Now she and Riley compete for sleeping on my head and chest. Ferdinand sleeps right next to me and Meg just sleeps wherever she falls when she's tired - but it's always on something soft :)

Good leather furniture was the smartest thing I've ever bought!!

Thank you for taking in a distressed dog - too many fools out there think they can breed dogs for money. If you want a dog and you can't find what you want at the SPCA look on the web for a rescue that specializes in the breed you are looking for. The dog you find will love you for it.

The people who run the rescue groups are the true heros. They will take in ANY dog and spend whatever needs to be spent to take care of it - money and timewise. The adoption fee on Riley was higher than normal, but I was more than happy to pay knowing I doubt it came close to covering that lady's costs.

TheDatingNetworkCameron 08-24-2006 09:31 PM

Great looking dog. I have a female pug that is 1 yr old. Great dogs.

KMR Stitch 08-24-2006 11:03 PM

I wanted to breed my PUG. Perhaps for profit I have him AKC and forgot the other one but supposed to be like 6gen champ bloodline or something. I have to re read my papers.. but he was stolen but I got him back almost a year later.

You are 100% right rescue workers need our help. But it is so a catch-22 walking by a puppy store. You buy a puppy and save it but that gives them money to buy another to sell. Yet you can't ignore the puppy you want.

That is largely due to all the C.U.N.T.S who backyard breed their dogs, run puppy mills, or the retarded fucks who buy from them.

So many evil people in the puppy trade.

Don't breed your dog, because AKC papers don't mean shit and you'd be a backyard breeder the rest of us are trying to get rid of.

Well I guess that has to depend on the location of dog. I picked up my dog from the store. He was 1200.00 He also came chiped 2 sets of papers and 6gen blood line. With the breeders name. In Orlando Pugs in the paper are selling for 650-700.00 each just AKC I think the other paper I have on him is CKC. I had a deal with my vet also any dog I breed he would take care of the puppies at a special rate.. All shots all meds needed and start each of them on the heart worm's I had it all planned out just never got the female I was looking for. an Aprecot pug

OK, if you got it from a pet store I can 100% guarantee you that AKC paperwork means shit. Ariel is AKC registered and she is about as far off standard as I've seen a pug. And the CKC is what puppymills use when they can't get the AKC paperwork.

REAL breeders spend years taking their dogs to shows and only breeding the ones who win several titles. They will also require a buyer to sign a spay/neuter certificate for a puppy if it's not show quality. True breeders of dogs rarely, if ever, make a profit. They do it for the love of the breed. A true good standard pug will sell for thousands and there's usually a waiting list. They aren't sold in stores who get their dogs from puppymills.

I would STRONGLY suggest you get your dog neutered ASAP. Not only will you help stop the population of unwanted dogs, but your dog will live longer.

They have pug day in GG Park in San Francisco. All the pug owners go and walk their dogs. It's like a sea of cuteness. :)

We have a pug picnic here every year. Honestly it was better when it was a small group and at someone's house where they had 6 acres of fenced property. The pugs could run free and were usually by the food table or begging food from other owners :winkwink:

Now it's held in an indoor arena and all dogs must be leashed. :(

It always amazes me there are never any fights :)

Sarah_Jayne 08-25-2006 11:21 AM

There is talk of a pug day in London but I would have to travel all the way into central London and there is no way I am subjecting my pug to the tube.

tASSy 08-27-2006 03:03 PM

good on you miss peaches for rescuing this lil' guy! lee.loo was also the victim of a dumb woman wanting to breed teacup pugs out of her (the runt of one litter) and a boy run (of some other litter). these people are idiots! they make me so mad, thinking they can capitalise on making animals make babies and go through pregnancy and baring a litter of pups.

i wish i could hand pick humans and shove them together and make them breed based on genetics so we only got smart ones, but since i'm not hitler, such is life. :winkwink:

lee.loo says riley is adorable, she likes younger men. :winkwink:

and no my pug will never be pink, at least not until she can talk and tell me she'd like pink fur; but yes much of my wardrobe is pink.

Well, I know for a fact if I wanted to find him a good home, you'd be it :)

But for now, as long as it STAYS AT 4, I'm happy keeping all the little buggers. My carpet is destroyed but carpet can be replaced :)
