A Tropical Storm (Chris) Warning for Florida!

Tropical storm watch for Florida.

Tropical Storm Chris may hit Florida late Sunday.

Are there any people living in Florida who can give more accurate details than what we can read at this site?

There is no warning for Florida. Warnings are made when there will be hurricane force winds with in 24 hours. If it hits florida a warning would not go out till Sat. depending on when they anticipate the landfall, which is looking like Sunday after noon right now.

Ok thanks mate. I have been through 2 Cyclones in Northern Australia So I will still go to the Internext show. It looks like it may fizzle out anyway and only be a big storm. :thumbsup

I hope it dies out but i kinda want to get them done with already. Some news stations say it might die and some say it will be a catagory 1. I think this is mother earth just warming up.

L0rdJuni0r 08-02-2006 12:24 AM

Then again... they said Katrina was not going to do shit yet it killed about 10 people in miami as a catagory 1 and it killed new orleans

I see hurrican warnings on tv, from they who love to monger fear...

But when you read the alerts, print or web, and go to the stormwatch and other types of sites, they're considerably less panicked about it.

It'll hit cuba and either spin into a Category one in the Gulf.

According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami, "it could become a hurricane later on Wednesday as it traveled on a path that could take it into the Gulf of Mexico, where it could damage U.S. oil and gas facilities."

We might get some rain...

Tropical Storm Chris threatens Florida Keys
By KEN KAYE
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
8/2/2006

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - It must be August, because South Florida is in the cone of uncertainty.
Bulking up quickly, Tropical Storm Chris emerged in the western Atlantic on Tuesday, threatening to intensify into a minimal hurricane and take aim for the Florida Straits by Sunday.

For now, Cuba and the Florida Keys appear to be under the gun, as the forecast track takes the system just north of Havana. Several models point the storm across Cuba or south of it.

However, even on its projected path, it could graze South Florida and bring stormy conditions. There also is the possibility it could veer in the direction of South Florida. If so, the region could start feeling it on Saturday, forecasters said.

"We have shifted the track farther to the south, but we can't rule out South Florida this early in the game," said meteorologist Jennifer Pralgo of the National Hurricane Center. "So people really need to monitor this thing."

Florida is a big state.. the entire state doesn't get hit with every hurricane.. Hell when Andrew hit and took out Miami/ Homestead.. It was a nice sunny day in central Florida and you would have never had a clue anything was hitting the state.

I've lived here all my life and I can count the number of hurricanes that have caused my power to go out on 1 hand ok maybe a finger or two of the other hand. But for the amount of time I've lived here I haven't had to deal with very many bad ones.

Now it just so happens 3 were in the last two years the last one before that that was bad enough to turn off my power was Hurricane David in 1979. So we don't get destroyed every year however they do seem to be more active now.

crockett 08-02-2006 06:35 AM

oh BTW just for the fear mongers here are some hurricane pics.. I think this thread needs a few.. :winkwink:

too soon to tell but they are now saying on the radio here to prepare for a weekend landfall

where that exact landfall will be is debatable

If your comming to internext bring canned food and water

:1orglaugh

Im going hurricane shopping tonight just to be on the safe side

Wilma hit us last year and we were fucked for almost a week down herew with no gas power food water ect ect

was a nightmare

CIVMatt 08-02-2006 07:38 AM

HERES A FUCKING HINT, people in florida no longer care about hurricanes... Dont ask us, honestly people in Michigan know more about the Florida storms then accual floridians do.

We know their coming we have gotten so used to them.

Wizzo 08-02-2006 07:40 AM

Its just going to be a nice rainstorm to sleep thru and recover from Internext... :pimp

ChefJeff 08-02-2006 08:54 AM

LittleMack 08-02-2006 09:12 AM

if it stays south of mainland Florida, no issues for internext except for some wind and rain...no biggie.

The Hurricane won't be a hurricane for a while yet, its still a tropical storm. And its looking like its going to veer into the Gulf and just give us a little rain... Keep track of it via the image (if they allow the hotlink long enough) or just check that page.

So far it's looking like a pretty fairweather tradeshow to me - even the yacht cruise on Saturday isn't threatened by this projection ...
